C67 - Myriad

“What a fucking parlor trick.”

A roar filled the sky arena as reality finally solidified. It was disconcerting to see how the World tree and the Eternal Sovereign were able to distort and Split the finality of reality.

It was new for Levi.

Levi had played a lot of games till their end game, and have dealt against ultra fast paced gameplay, there was also the system slowing things down for you to adapt, but this was the first time encountered mechanisms that could distort and branch realities... Not to mention this early in the game.

This game…

Is it still really a game?

Levi didn't know anymore. His mind splitting into myriad instances, breaking, rebuilding… breaking and rebuilding in a loop to the point of forgetting everything, then suddenly snapping back to place, led Levi to some very concerning safety questions.

He shrugged off the experience after discovering his own version of the concept of [Identity], but seeing a fraction of [Endlessness] and [Inevitability] gripped and clawed something at the back of his mind…

‘What if…’

Roaaaaaar!

His thoughts were cut off as a gut wrenching roar echoed throughout the now destroyed sky maze…

Or were supposed to be cut off… but…

Levi felt chills as he noticed his thought split off as if another version of his mind focused on what's happening outside of his current thought process.

It wasn't like the micro-level multitasking that constantly pushed Levi to undergo adaptations, nor like the bonus observation and control by increasing perception stat in game.

He felt that his mind literally branched into multiple thought processes and somehow, he had instantly adapted to it.

Already having unsummoned everyone in his kingdom, all the while ordering the rest of his creations to stand down. Mean while as processing control for Crea to charge towards the rotten tree like abomination who was once the gate towards the finish line of the maze.

Levi instantly utilized the newly gained ability in order to catchup with the remaining time.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Utilizing [Skeletal Body Strengthening] + [Bone Telekinesis] to flash in, Crea's body rocketed and bypassed the tendrils that were trying to shelter the rotten tree boss.

As if predicting the obvious rush, rotten wooden tendrils were already waiting for Crea's landing but failed to make contact as [Bone Telekinesis] was triggered yet again forcefully ending the momentum of the rush, levitating Crea just above the tendrils allowing her to use them as platforms to continue her rush towards the core of the boss where the finish line lay.

At the same instance, Gigantic armaments fell from the sky, destroying parts of the rotten tree of a boss, but it instantly adapted forcefully holding the condensed Gigantic armaments through its tendrils making it impossible for Levi to both unsummon the Gigantic weapons or control them via [Bone Telekinesis].

Hel, perched on Crea's shoulder, created bones and shifted them to act as shields and structures to block and counteract some of the branches but that wasn't even nearly enough, the corrosion of the tendril like branches piercing directly, their speed a lot faster than what the fully amplified Crea can move in her current level.

Even so, Levi continued pushing Crea to rush towards the core of the rotten tree. Levi utilized the four Royal guards to propel Crea further. Using the last two of the royal guards for a crucial save sacrificing themselves in order to block a tendril that was sure to hit Crea.

The Rotten tree continued to roar as it continuously failed to apprehend the final participant. It desperately tried to Summon more tendrils finding itself in a pinch as the Skeletals that were once watching now fervently hacking at him. The tendrils it could Summon might be endless, but its life was still bound within the living and it too would die once its hp falls into zero. Still the tree ignored the skeletals and focused on holding back the final participant.

It only needed to hold for 20 more seconds in order to fulfill its purpose. The problem continued to be the fervent skeletals. They bite, scratched and slashed and continued to decapitate it's tendrils. [Deny Death, Deny Life] doubling the effect of their sacrifice. The second chance spiraling the skeletals into an even more frenzy as it allowed them to serve their creator for one last time.

Eventually, Crea reached the core area, a huge gate of rotten wood tried to block the path but an empowered scythe along with Hel's bone tendrils easily drilled into the gate.

The Tree, noticing its failure, detonated its very core of existence. Having access to the Eternal Sovereign's gift, it had long known that this could happen and had prepared in advance and had started charging up it's mana.

Levi taking up [Mana Sense] for the first threshold of the perception stat easily spotted this but what could he do?

A sad thought brushed over the tree's short existence and only Levi's loss served as a win for all the tree was worth. It may have failed to realize its existence. But the death of the final participant was inevitable. And it will fulfill its role.

A silent flash of white enveloped half of the sky maze as the explosion of rot and mana instantly covered everything.

In an instant it corroded both Crea and Hel as well as other skeletals. Grounding everything until nothing is left.

The death of the world tree, soon returned the former state of The finish line but was for nought as all the participants were dead.

The audience sat in silence, both shocked and disappointed as to what happened. Some even accused the World VR League as a scam, seeing how the trump card of the boss was able to instantly trigger without delay and without limits to its damage.

Even the shoutcaster who was supposedly immune to everything got wiped out by the white light. What could a mere level 30 or so Pet could even do in that situation.

Also, how the fuck would they expect mere infant companions to go through a maze with enemies wielding such high tiered concepts? Almost none of the current player base, including the pros had information about concepts, how could…

[Info] Time Remaining until event ends… 12 seconds…

[Info] Time Remaining until event ends… 11 seconds…

[Info] Time Remaining until event ends… 10 seconds…

Seconds continued to tick by as silence ensued. There had to be more right? Why else would…

Just as the noise and speculation were starting to rise back up, dust started gathering at the middle of the finish line… The skill, [Deny Death, Deny Life] triggering and resummoning Hel and Crea. The system announcing the completion of the event.

Everyone sat back in silence as they realized what just happened. There were no cheers, no applause that happened. Just… sadness as the shoutcaster, now in real life reiterated the description of the skill.

Ignoring the system. Crea and Hel kneeled in turn. As a portal appeared and a Skeletal walked out.

The two Skeletals were smiling as they saw their creator for one last time. Their forms starting to turn back into dust. As the five second temporary resurrection of [Deny Death, Deny Life] continued to count down.

Levi, kneeling to face the two returned to his human form and simply patted the heads of his very first two boss level creations…

The screen went blank after that.
