Levi woke refreshed. A darker tint filled him as he was still wearing the vr headset from his playtime earlier.
He inhaled and exhaled lying perfectly still basking in the familiar but always different feeling that comes during various adaptation scenarios.
Checking on the system clock at the vr gear, it seems that it seems that he still has roughly 2 days of VR time... Checking in IRL time however... It was already past 2pm.
He haved called off work way too many times due to roughly the same reason, that's why he usually schedules the full 4 hours of VR time allocation as the last four hours of his day before doing his night routine. It's just that the excitement for a new game after four whole years really didn't help when it came to self control...
Or maybe its because he had to physically que for this for more than three hours? Levi could only laugh as he sent a message to his workplace.
The 'testing' session he had planned brought him far too much content. He even managed to discover a new vr concepts he hasn't experienced yet with other vr games!...
That unfortunately required him to be booted off to reality and forced to enter adaptation mode or as Levi has dubbed it 'A forced nap'.
And thereby miss his travel time for work...
Minutes later Levi eventually got a call from his boss, and a thirty minute rambling about that he should really just retire, and that it would provide more contracts to the new ones he trained. And that Levi should maybe just learn a new hobby and so on...
Then came the 'Usual' Grandfatherly speech about family and kids and what not which only made Levi chuckle only to pause.
Stolen novel; please report.
Who knows?
'May be it really is time.'
Levi mused. Saying that he'd think about it before dropping the call.
He had been very fickle about his retirement. Going on and off due to his hate of being idle. Granted he had heard the advice of the old man quite a number of times, the way he said it this time really just hit home.
Eventually he opted to go to the office, musing whether to just stick around or finally sign his long delayed early retirement.
When he arrived however, the Oldman already had his stuff propped in a box. Everyone had gathered as if he knew he was going to come. They were all bowing with reverence, thanking him for all his teachings and such.
'Checkmate'
In the back the Old chairman was laughing teasingly. Looking at him as he was a bird he just sent off to learn how to fly.
Now he really had no choice but to retire had he? Levi laughed before giving each and everyone a hug and whatever wisdom or individual advice that came to him. Finally, he wished them to be safe. Their line of work isn't something that should be...
Levi stopped himself and laughed. They had all passed his training, and even the old man. They were more than ready.
Having said his piece to each of them Levi went to the old man gave him his heartfelt hug. Both of them knew that it really is goodbye this time.
The old man laughed as Levi cried. There were so many things that could go wrong in their industry, as such it had been indoctrinated to them not only to save money for retirement, but to always remember that there greater things passed this ill Fated profession of theirs.
And for each success and failure, there was the old man in front of him. A father figure he was lucky to encounter in his life time.
...
Eventually things simmered down, and everyone went back to their respective posts, with some opting to silently watch Levi make his exit.
Levi took his time making sure to walk slowly and even pause at times, enjoying the small talk with the old man promising to visit every now and then and Maybe catch up online though vr games.

Levi decided to walk. Contemplating on what Todo next, the heavy hearted goodbye, made him want to visit his only friend on his way back.
'She could be logged in right now...'
Levi was about to walk his way home before he shrugged and went to visit her anyway.
He... Has an awful lot of time now.
