C48 - Trial of Champions

After the introductions, things eventually calmed down. The Guilds ultimately settled in their respective booths. The booths being more of a luxury shop, with sofas and lazyboys. Waiters and Servers already pouring drinks, each guild member treated as VVIPs the appreciation of the World VR League easily seen through the luxury treatment.

There was a short meet and greet, right after the announcements, the crowd scampering to meet their idols, and a couple of reporters already interviewing some of the pro players about their class, build, playstyle and alike. The short meet and greet also allowed the crowd to get a measure of which players are going to be attending what event, as the World VR League casts almost up to a hundred types of tournaments per year from Sieges, PVP, Battle Arena, Pet contests, Magic Design, Crafting Competitions, Fashion Competitions and so on.

The meeting also allowed Levi and the other new players along with the returning ones to prepare themselves, as they will be undergoing through this year’s Trial of Champions, a yearly event where in newly vetted and returning individuals are tried for their qualifications to join the league, before pitting them against each other, into a battle arena, where in rankings are determined by both kills, performance as well as the last man standing during the finale.

Levi of course was wouldn’t really have a problem with the initial part of the trial. He perfectly dodged each and every obstacle, successfully killing spawned enemies within one blow, fully utilizing the unlimited stamina brought upon by [Active Skeletal Conversion] to just rush through the whole trial, easily being the first one to arrive in the battle arena. Earning a small notoriety from some of the observant audience as well as the shoutcasters.

… …

Anri watched this year’s Trial of Champions along with her guild members, the drink in her hand already empty by the time the announcer announced the start of the trial.

She hummed, far too relaxed same as with all veteran League members. Given how strong her guild was, the event itself was more of a vacation if not a budding stage as Avalesk: Eternal enter it’s early stages.

Given how early it is within the game, this year’s recruitment venture was more of a gamble so why not just herself?

The yearly Trial of Champions was primetime to scout new members for guilds. For the majority of the unaffiliated members, it was frankly their only hope of staying within the league. The League required its members to maintain a certain number of points per season that are earned by placing within the rankings of various league matches and activities.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

At the end of each season, points are then summed up for both group and individual points which will then be used to measure if a guild or a player will be able to stay within the league for each season.

As such, it is important for Guilds to actively improve their current roster and continue fostering new talents in order to earn enough achievement points to maintain their status. But with her guilds current Strength? They could easily comb through everyone in this tournament given how big of an advantage the First Kingdom, as well as the knowledge of the tri-elves have given the guild. They also have their own Skeletal Parties and friends. Can you believe that?

.

Bloodstained Sakura aside, the Seasonal Struggle is far worse for unaffiliated players. Given how fast guilds establish themselves in-game, it was inevitable for unaffiliated members to be left out and even harassed within the game.

Infact, Adventurer’s Tea Party was sanctioned by the World VR League just to alleviate the burden for non-guild affiliated players. The initial influence of the freedom themed guild however waned as the other Guilds became more aggressive with their recruitment, less and less talents have belonged to the freedom guild in recent years, others being actively sniped and offered and only the immunity granted by the League is keeping it from disbanding permanently.

Now of course, Anri wasn’t worried about her husband. Quite the opposite actually.

Maybe it could actually save him from his boredom. She had been hearing her husband sigh more often obviously bored after retirement, and maybe the additional challenge is just what he needs to get out of his slump.

Getting back to topic, the new existence of such an overpowered player this early into the game would inevitably take away precious Season Points from guilds and it would either force the various guilds to try and recruit his husband or worse, hunt and coerce him in-game preventing Levi from getting stronger.

Which was also welcome. Again her husband’s boredom.

That being said, the Adventurer’s Tea Party exists to prevent such things, but that is if he would even join the guild…

Or would he?

She switched her screen towards the camera circling around her husband.

Anri couldn’t help but cackle in laughter. Her husband, being the first to arrive at the battle arena, arrogantly standing tall, patiently waiting for everyone else to finish their trial.

She was busily switching from screen to screen and did not have the time to observe her husband during his trial stage but seeing him unscathed and already gathering attention. She just knew, that he would soon turn things upside down.

‘My Love really? hee-hee-hee…’

Anri mumbled to herself as she giggled in anticipation. Her Guild Members getting goosebumps upon seeing their Guild Master fangirling and mumbling inaudible cackles, gulping down her third drink of the day.

Soon, the other people were teleported at the center of the Battle Arena. The gigantic stadium becoming pitch quiet, as the main camera masterfully switched from player to player introducing everyone else one by one before switching to the Tall and almost gigantic Skeletal standing at the center of the Battle Arena.

Everyone gulped excitement.

It was finally time.

… …

To be continued.
