Chapter 9: Enlightenment

Chapter 9: Enlightenment

Second and Third Elder became quiet when Sect Leader Fu asked her question. She was their own Sect Leader’s daughter and also the apprentice of the Great Elder of their home sect. Sect Leader Fu held a high status in the sect and she had great talent but she wasn’t a top tier figure just yet so the two Elders merely gave her face and acknowledgement. But they did truly admire the Great Elder. Not only did he have power equivalent to the Sect Leader but he was also the brother of him also. That was power and status that greatly surpassed themselves. While they knew they could conquer this continent with just one of them and not even break a sweat, the Great Elder could defeat both of them together without even using magic. This was truly frightening power. Whenever they looked at the Great Elder it made them proud to be a part of the sect.

Only after a few breaths of time did he close his eyes and speak. He spoke in a calm unhurried tone. Whenever he spoke it was like the heavens would shake, as if whatever he said became law.

“We shouldn’t do anything to interfere with him. Let him walk his own path and see where he ends up. Eventually he will become stronger than all of us. Stronger than any of us can imagine.”

He didn’t speak any further words and left everyone at a loss.

Stronger than any of us can imagine?

It must be known that these top tiered people have witnessed a lot. And they have definitely seen strength that far surpasses anything seen in this realm. How could anything possibly be out of their imagination.

They didn’t question the words of the First Elder, only thought to themselves. They knew that if he had spoken these words he must have something to back it up. So they simply went on to watching the screen in front of them. Paying even closer attention now.

Training Field

Akata was sitting cross legged and by now he had fully taken in all the blood of the Blood Rabbit. When all the blood was taken in he felt a jolt in his body. His skin became tougher, his bones sturdier, his muscles tensed up. Everything in his body was changing. He took in a deep breath that riled up the wind in the area and made it brush up against him. His eyes opened slowly to show his fiery red desire to fight. He now had the cultivation base level of Mortal Rank Grade 2.

Normally when people broke through grades, just the energy in their dantion region would become denser and therefore allow them to wield more power. Akata on the other hand trained his body therefore his body became tougher when he broke through. Since his body broke through, he now had the body strength of a Mortal Rank Grade 4 cultivator. Akata was thrilled and stood up to test out his strength.

Ming Lu was there the whole time and put a hand in the air to signal him to stop.

“It’s good that you succeeded and it’s even better that you actually ended up making a breakthrough, but now is not the time nor the place to test yourself. I’m sure you remember the next step in your training.” Ming Lu said with a smile on her face.

Akata looked towards Ming Lu and nodded. He then clasped hands and headed to Misty Forest. By now it was dark out and only a few disciples were in the training field. Akata didn’t rush towards the forest and only strolled. His sight was now better than it used to be so he could see better in the dark than usual.

The night sky was clear and the stars shone with radiance. Akata looked up at the sky and was amazed by the spectacle. There were an innumerable amount of stars in the sky, all of them different shapes, colors, and sizes. As he was looking he saw a small meteor in the distance shooting off. He couldn’t help but think of the vision of the gryphon and the meteor.

Akata stopped walking and stared at the meteor off in the distant space. He didn’t know why he stopped only that he felt a sort of connection towards the meteor. He felt that it could give him unimaginable power in the future. He looked deeply at the meteor, at the shape, speed, and size of it. Nothing made it slow down and it crushed everything in its path.

Akata sat down cross legged where he was and closed his eyes. Right now he was going through something that many others wouldn’t experience in their whole lifetime, and that was gaining enlightenment from nature.

The meteor seemed to sense Akata trying to connect with it and suddenly changed directions and headed for him. Being in space where there was nothing to slow it down all it did was speed up coming closer to Akata with increasing speed.

Akata sat in meditation for the rest of the night and even throughout the day. When gaining enlightenment people could spend however long was needed for them to truly contemplate enlightenment. Even though Akata was in the training field and just sitting there, nobody disturbed him. Even though there were some jealous people that envied him greatly and even spoke of messing him up they wouldn’t dare do so. It’s not that they were scared it’s just that as fellow cultivators they knew how important enlightenment was. If they were to mess someone else's enlightenment up then they wouldn’t feel confident in going through with theirs if they experienced it.

Not only that but as Akata sat in meditation gaining enlightenment, a barrier sprang up around him so that even if someone wanted to intrude they couldn’t. This barrier was set up by First Elder. Even though First Elder’s barriers could block out the laws of Heaven and Earth he didn’t allow this one to do so as it could mess with Akata’s enlightenment. He wasn’t really interfering with Akata, he knew others in the sect wouldn’t disturb his enlightenment but he wanted to make sure no powerful figures were aware of the fact that Akata was gaining enlightenment.

The meteor was heaven's supreme object. It was allowed to do anything it pleased without repercussion. If it didn’t approve of anything it would speed towards it and crush it with overwhelming might, obliterating whatever is in its path. The heaven’s did nothing to stop the meteors destruction and therefore people considered it to be a supreme being with unlimited power. Regular people would venerate its power and look at it with awe, but the supreme figures of the world knew how much the heaven’s favored the meteor. If someone was to gain enlightenment regarding the meteor and control them it would be truly astonishing.

The barrier that went up around Akata wasn’t the only one. Multiple barriers went up in quick succession. One around Akata, then the sect, then the country, then the continent, then the world, and finally all the way out until it contained the meteor that was speeding towards Akata. First Elder was actually surprised to see Akata gaining enlightenment to a celestial object such as a meteor at such a young age. When he first noticed the heavenly connection between the two he instantly put up multiple barriers so that others wouldn’t sense it.

You might think that with all these barriers and how grand they are others would take notice, but First Elder was actually a supreme expert in setting up barriers and seals. He put all his focus on setting up each barrier and even though he did it rapidly and at a grand scale he didn’t disturb the natural law in the area in any way. Making it so that others didn’t even know a barrier was put up.

First Elder was seated on the floor cross legged focusing on keeping up the barrier. Sensing that nobody was approaching he let out a breath of relief and eased up but didn’t lower his focus on the barrier at all. His skill was so great that Second and Third Elder didn’t even notice the barrier that was put into place. It happened so fast they didn’t even have time to sense the heavenly connection between Akata and the meteor.

When First Elder finished surveying the surroundings he immediately called for Third and Second Elder. They came in an instant out of nowhere.

“Akata is gaining enlightenment regarding a supreme celestial object favored by the heavens. As soon as I felt the heavenly connection between them I set up multiple barriers to prevent others from noticing. I’ve already surveyed the area to make sure nobody is coming but that doesn’t mean that they won’t. I’ll have to ask you two to survey the area also. I’ll leave a clone with each of you that way when you need to report back to me I’ll know right away. I have to put my full focus on the barrier so I can’t send my true body with you. Don’t worry about danger though and stay close to the barrier. If something goes wrong warn me and come inside. If Akata finishes his enlightenment before anything happens then I’ll release the barrier.”

Second and Third Elder were extremely shocked. Just from the first sentence they knew how important this was. They didn’t ask any questions or stay a while longer. As soon as First Elder stopped speaking they disappeared.

As soon as First Elder finished talking two of his hairs on his head stood up and plucked off of his head, then transformed to look exactly like him. These were his clones. Everything about them was the same from the looks, smell, techniques used, and memories. The only difference between them is the fact that these clones were pitifully weak compared to the real person. But even though compared to the true body they were pitifully weak, when compared to the strength of this continent it could be considered a Patriarch in a large strong clan. These two clones instantly disappeared too, one following the Second Elder and the other following Third Elder.

First Elder didn’t need to address Sect Leader Fu on the matter for two reasons. Firstly she wouldn’t be able to understand the true depth of a heavenly connection to a supreme celestial object, and secondly with her strength she wouldn’t be of any use and would in fact be in the way. It wasn’t rude to exclude her from these things as she was still just the junior generation compared to them. She didn’t control them or anything, they were just there to watch over things and keep her and Akata safe.

In fact First Elder didn’t have to come. With his status and power it would actually be ruining his reputation if he were ordered to come here to just be a guard. It was originally just supposed to be the Heaven and Earth Twins, but his own brother begged him and even got on his knees so that First Elder could watch over them. How could First Elder say no to that?

He didn’t mind though and in fact he would’ve gone anyways even if he wasn’t asked. One because it was his family, and two he knew how important the mission was and had to make sure things went smoothly. He was actually a bit delighted to see his brother do such a thing.

Training Field

Akata remained seated as he was gaining enlightenment. It has already been five days since he sat down. It was nighttime now and the sky was once again clear of clouds. The stars shone brightly and everything was serene and normal. Everything except for the meteor that was now very close to the sect.

It entered the atmosphere and was burning into smaller fragments. It was still heading towards Akata at an amazing speed. Akata didn’t know a meteor was heading in his direction. While others felt the tremendous pressure from the  meteor, Akata felt something he was connected to coming closer to him. He felt as if he could connect to it then he would finish his enlightenment.

The meteor was coming in closer and surrounding cities were evacuating while powerful figures of the empire were thinking of ways to stop it. But to their surprise when they tried to get into Purple Sky City where the meteor was headed they were stopped by a barrier. Nothing they tried could get them through.

The meteor was getting closer and closer and as it got closer and burned up it was getting smaller and smaller. Akata felt that he was really close to enlightenment. As the meteor closed in he felt that he was really close.

50,000 meters, 25,000 meters, 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters…

It was at this moment that Akata opened his eyes and stood up to see the incoming meteor. When he saw it he wasn’t surprised. He actually had a smile on his face. Then he lifted his finger toward the meteor and when it was close enough he… tapped it.
