Dr Elune smiled at Tom as he hobbled into the main hall, "Welcome back. Mind full of ideas for today's session?"
Laughing, Tom nodded as he patiently made his way to the vr room, "You could say that. I am also here to chat about your prosthetics again, if you don't mind?"
"Not at all! Our engineer, Laura, is still at my station sorting things out, so we can probably sueeze in some requests for units to be made and shipped back over."
"Hah, that would be a neat idea. No, I as more curious as to your earlier stages. Do you have lab results for the rejection rates as yet?"
Blinking, the doctor nodded as they walked into the room, showing Tom to their seat, "Oh, right. I beleive we have the results on that, I have forgotten to check up on it. We can confirm once we are inside."
Sighing contently as he eased into one of the seats, Tom glanced over at the other chairs, "Oh? And who might be joining me today?"
"Hmm? Oh, just me. Jolana is entertaining a friend in a seperate sim, so we are unlikely to interact."
Tom chuckled, initialising his setup, "Ahh, that explains the reschedule request. I imagine you have a limit to how many people can be in at once?"
Making thier way to their own chair, Dr Elune grinned as they sat down, "More the amount of sims. Two full simulations will be pushing our capabilities today."
Pausing the conversation as they calibrated their units, the doctor quickly found themself in the White Room lobby, quickly granting access to Tom once they were both in, sitting down to wait.
Tom wandered in from his room, ini his usual avatar which was an accurate recreation of his younger self, from before the wars. "As I was saying... Sim limit, huh. Doesn't Ren usually hop on, run some of his own tests using AHOR schematics?"
Dr Elune starte up the second sim, hoping Alex would be handling all this okay, "He does, however that takes less power than a full world sim. These rooms do not come with realistic physics to the furniture for example, only simple conact and movement."
"Ah. So, we are also doing something like a stress-test to the capabilities of this today?" Tom smiled curiously as he made his way into the sim area, their destination today one of Tom's favourite gardens for now to start off.
"You could see it like that. We hadn't planned for your sessions to overlap, so I appologise for any... Lag." Grinning, th doctor lifted off the ground, floating around the garden, "So, what were these ideas you had in mind?"
"Actually... I wanted to test out this virtual body. I have noticed you had marvelous recreations of the local spire, and that gave me an idea."
Dr Elune paled, "We do have apretty good sim of this, yeah. What did you have in mind?"
Tom sighed, stretching as he limbered up... Despite not feeling feedback from it, and not needing to in a sim. "Well, as horrifying as it was... I was thinking of reliving some scenes from the war. Smaller scale of course, but going back to the streets of Mars would be interesting."
"Uh... I can see what we can do." Glancing around, the doctor floated closer, "Before that, though... I thought you didn't fight much? And, you had let go of most of that?"
Laughing, Tom shook his head, "It isn't the robots which are why I'm asking. I stopped wanting payback for my leg ages ago, or I wouldn't be able to stand the idea of your prosthetics. No, it is more because fighting is the best way to push a body to it's limits, real or virtual." Ready to go, Tom straightened up with a grin, "And as for me, while I was only on the fringe of a handful of fights before being sent home, I still remember seeing them in the distance, and going through more reudementary sims to train against them."
"Right. That makes sense, I suppose." The doctor sent a message to Alex, asking what they could do about the Mars sim, "While Alex isn't here to supervise today, I can still see if the system can generate something. It won't be nearly as well made as the sim we are in, though."
"Oh? Any reson as to why, for both our missing virtual expert and the quality drop?"
Dr Elune smirked, "Alex is just busy working on our ship. Last minute idea to modify the plating, and they couoldn't wait." The doctor silently thanked Jolana for that excuse, "As for the sims, we, uh... Cheated." As Tom perked up curiously, they continued, "See, we kinda hcked the security feeds using our cimputer, and used them to create scans of the entire spire. That is why this is all so detailed, and accurate."
Tom grinned as he looked around, "So that's how you did it. I guess such a scan would take time, so I couldn't get a Mars sim today even if I wanted one."
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Correct. That, and hacking into Mars would be..."
"... Dangerous." Smile softening, Tom thought about it, "They do tend to get quite uppity about security over there, for obvious reasons."
Glancing at their messages, the doctor nodded, "That they do. Looks like we don't really have any records to go off for a partial sim, unless you have any photos or recordings of Mars?"
"Hmm... I just might, but they would be stored at home."
"We could always... Access them remotely. With your permission, of course." Smiling innocently, Dr Elune floted arounf above Tom's head.
"You know, I always did think you were a dangerous eccentric~" Laughing as he looked up at the doctor, Tom nodded, "One of the least law-abiding people I know... And yet I still trust you. Just don't go snooping to much, you hear?"
Dr Eluen nodded, sending a request to Alex, "The system will look for records marked as related to Mars, and I will go through them and see what will make a good sim. Sound good?"
"Sounds good. How long will this take?"
The doctor blinked as Alex came back quickly with confirmation on accessing Tom's computers, "Half an hour at most before we have a sim. You should really improve your security." Tom shook his head with a snicker, "Let's see, some photos, and two videos... Will either of these serve as good meterial?"
Tom glanced over the thumbnails fo the videos in question, "Hmm, well... Wait, that first one, there is a shot about mid way from my battle practice. Use that!"
Nodding, Dr Elune sent the request to Alex, who started watching accordingly, "Our systems will analyse the video thoroughly, and will let me know when the sim is ready. There might be some... Improvisation, but we will have something for you to enjoy."
As Tom nodded excitedly, he started doing some drills to refamiliarise himself with his old techniques. Dr Elune glanec down at the communications with Alex, and sent another message, "Thank you. Mars drone control, will you be able to copy it?"
A short pause, "Incompletely, but I might. A problem, though... I will have to accurately portray battle tactics, somthing I, and our system, has yet to handle."
The doctor groaned, and looked up at Tom, "I just thought of something. We don't have the software to train against the Mars AI replicas."
Tom paused in his drill, taking a deep breath, "Oh, right. Guess I overestimated your system!" Grinning, he rubbed his chin, "How about this... You play a lot of games, right? Use something similar from one of those, and I can go up against that."
The doctor sent the recommendation to Alex, "Looks like that could work. We even have mechanic War Machines from an earlier game, which are close enough to these models in the video to modify the attack patterns. They won't be as nasty as the Mars AI though."
"Good! I am rusty, after all." Pumped up, Tom went back to his drills, "How much longer?"
Dr Elune checked with Alex, "Training areas are done, just waiting on your opponent AI to get written. Not much longer now." The doctor stretched, interested to see how this would turn out.
Tom laughed as he leant forwards in the chair, coughing from the sudden sound after using the sim too long, "Damn, that was a rush... I have to try that again next time."
The doctor walked over, offering a hand to him, "No kidding! I honestly didn't think oyu had it in you, you were darting all over the place like an ace."
Tom chuckled, sore as he made his way to the door, "It has been a while, but I was quite good back in the day. Hopefully you will have something a bit more challenging next time?"
The doctor grinned, "I'll see what we can do. We might even be able to recover the old sim you were using in the video."
Tom laughed, "That would be miraculous, and marvelous. Say... That other fellow is still at it. What are they up to?"
"Hmm? I don't know. He has a more relaxed schedule though, so he might stay the night." Glancing back, Max was indeed still stuck in the sim, along with Jolana.
"Unfortunately, I still have business to oversee, so no late night sims for me." Grinning as he shook the doctor's hand, Tom turned to the awaiting mag-pod, "It was a pleasure, Sam. I forgot to ask about the prosthetics, but we can chat about that over a call."
"Any time, and that would be best. No sim to distract us that way!" Waving goodbye, the doctor sighed with relief once the pod turned the corner... That went as good as could be hoped. Headed back inside, they mused to themself.... How was the other sim doing?
