Ch 15: Book

A gentle couch made Dr Elune blink, and a smiling Alex stood projected from a nearby service drone, "I seem to have fixed that power issue. I only have about an hour at a time, though."

"That's nice dear. Now... How did you even get in?" Looking around, the doctor was deep in the station's library, surrounded by shelves holding all manners of books and an occasional screen to acces the even more expansive virtual database.

"There are service elevators everywhere, and I know my way around. What, did you expect Akasha to handle all of the dusting?"

"... Good point. This place is huge, even with  lot of the servers under lockdown."

"Your welcome. One of the perks of me not having to breath, is maintenance needs no life support."

"I think that is enough bragging from you. Now, assuming you aren't just here for that, how long have I been here...?"

"Four hours, doctor. I distinctly remember you needing to talk with Akasha about my files."

"Oh right, that. Oops."

"I took the liberty of letting her know, and it has been handled. Both backups, and active masking of the current data."

"Oh, sweet. How did you manage that?"

"We physically disconnected my archive for now, and my current files will be moved actively away from wherever these people look. I may leave a few breadcrumbs, showing I am merely a verbal interfacer."

"Good work. Now, you should go and chat with Judith about AHOR serums: Or more viably, the alternate setup I mentioned to you. I, in the meantime, still need to catch up with Akasha."

"Yes, doctor." Flickering off, the projector is carried away by the drone to some other part of the library. Dr Elune gets up from the pile of old books with a sigh, placing a few notes on a nearby terminal to have them moved to the lab for further reading.

Wandering on again, the doctor was thankful they were close to the centre of the library now, where Akasha lived. They had already stopped several times to check some books that looked interesting, and had barely resisted the urge to sit and read up until that last batch.

Easing open the door, the doctor grinned as they come in, sneaking up on an unsuspecting Akasha. Standing behind her quietly, the doctor decides to simply read what she has in front of her, an exerpt on potatoes. It was surprisingl complicated, and the doctor leaned forward gently to get a closer look.

A few pages and minutes later, Akasha leans back to stretch their cramped body when they see Dr Elune. "OH SWEET ****ING **** MONKEYS THAT ****!"

Falling back, the doctor bursts into laughter, watching the panting librarian with a grin as they both try and regain composure. This just makes them both laugh more, and Dr Elune pulls her into a hug, "You know... That is the second loudest I have ever heard you."

"Nice to see you too. I know libraries are meant to be quiet, but geez!" Giggling, Akasha settles down a little, and leans into the doctor with a sigh, "There is a reason I like the quiet, though."

"... Yeah." Smiling softly, the doctor strokes a hand down Akasha's back, and they just sit there quietly for a moment, perfectly quiet in the middle of the library, in the middle of space, the only sound the soft brushing of the doctor's hand.

"... I should come by your lab more often. See how Alex is going."

"You should. An while I can come and cuddle you, you know I am way too lazy."

Giggling, Akasha pushes away from them and stands up, shuffling through a few papers that were scattered in the commotion, "I'll clean these up. Anything interesting?"

"Oh, a few things. You should see my Buff-Drone."

"Wh- you know what, I don't think I want to know."

"Hehe, okay. Alex is also getting cheekier."

"They stay with you all day, what do you expect?"

"I expected to drive my dear, sweet AI nuts, honestly."

Giggling again, Akasha finishes putting everything back, and sits back in their chair, "You would probably find that fun, in the end. I should really get around to havinf the sensors installed... Just talk to Alex like the others, instead of using a consol."

"Please, you don't talk to anyone but me." The doctor supressed the thought of a jealous Alex, to boot. That would be funny though... Hmmm. "I'll throw some projectors in as well, have you looking at nice 3D renders."

"Sounds neat, but I doubt I will use it. Thank you." Fidgeting, Akasha looks to the side, "So, uh... The usual?"

"The usual. I marked some books one the way here, for business and pleasure." Humming, the doctor wiggled over to lean against Akasha's chair, "Comfy?"

"... For now."

"Let's get started, then."
