Ch 83: Waiting

Ren looked up as people bustled around, and poked his head out into the hallway, "Am I missing something?"

Dr Elune glanced up as they rushed past, skidding to a stop with a grin, "Today is the day Alex gets dragged all over the spire by Jolana. Wanna tag along?"

Ren raised an eyebrow, leaning on the doorframe, "I thought this was a date? Don't tell me you plan on tailing them."

Dr Elune nodded, "Hey, you never know wha may happen. Jolana doesn't know how to maintain the unit, and I can help keep a lookout for... Unwanted attention. I promise to keep actual snooping to a minimum."

"Suuure you are. Either way, I'm staying put. I hope you lot all have a merry time."

Dr Elune shrugged as they resumed walking, "Suit yourself. Don't miss us too much~!" Dashing down the hallway, Ren sighed as he watched the doctor go.

Wandering on after, Ren leant over the railing of the main stairwell as he watched Alex and Jolana wave goodbye, Dr Elune tastefully saying farewell as they left. Ren chuckled, thinking Alex looked surprisingly delightful in ordinary clothes.

Waving an unnoticed goodbye, Ren watched as the doctor peered after until the coast was clear, before dashing to the garage to fire up another transport-pod. Setting off in careful pursuit, the doctor left Ren to himself, whih suited his mood for now.

Wandering back to his room, Ren paused, instead considering the VR room. He shook his head, realising Alex still ran that, and today was probably a bad option... Especially if they needed to suddenly focus, on a stranger or on their date, either one. Grinning to himself at the thought, Ren continued on to his room, mulling over the designs he had been working on in his head.

Back in his room, Ren sat down at his desk, pulling the sketched plans towards him. Glancing up at his copy of Alex's mobile processor stored in the shuttle, Ren tapped on a display to pull forth the usage statistics since they had arrived.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Pouring through the records, Ren hummed, noticing many odd spikes in processing... A lot could be explained at second glance, whether by simulations, emotional flair-ups or other similar occurances. But a few were a bit off...

Groaning, Ren saw his mistake... He hadn't accounted for Alex's continued operation of drones and monitoring equipment. Running a quick algorithm to filter out simulations and other external activity, leaving just the AHOR control and internal processes. The readouts bacame a lot more regular, still with the occaisional spike that could be suppressed if need be...

Revising the required specifications to about half his initial estimate, Ren looked back the the design for the processor, shrinking own the scale and seeing how the preformance is estimated to be affected. He frowned, seeing it fall far too short of his needs... But, he still had some ideas on the performance.

Altering the base design of the fillaments, Ren lost track of time as he immersed himself in refining the structure of it all, also setting aside some dedicated processing spaces in the design to better optimise the overall performance. Glancing up at the time, Ren jumped, seeing that most of the day had come and gone.

Satisfied with the schematic for now, Ren sent it to Alex's testing list, getting up to stretch. Wincing as his hips popped, he sighed as his throughts wturned the the merry little band that had set out, hoping everything had gone all right.

Noticing a pod pulling up to the house, Ren wandered down to the front entrance... Seems he didn't need to wait to find out, after all.
