Ch 16: Ahead of schedule

"Your actions confuse me, doctor."

Glancing up from the couch, a tired and relaxed Dr Elune smiles at the Alex-projection, "What, laying down on a couch?"

"No, not that. With Akasha. And her reactions confuse me more..."

Chuckling quietly, the doctor relaxes and closes their eyes for a moment, "Hey, it confuses a lot of huans as well. And besides... I thought there weren't any sensors in Akasha's rooms."

"I, uh..." Fidgeting, Alex turned around and mumbled, "There aren't..."

Opening their eyes, the doctor grinned as they sat up and turned around, "Oh? Let me guess, either you snuck a drone in, or you hacked her computer and used it's equipment."

"... Both. I was... Curious."

"You were a sneaky peeper, that is what you were~ If you were curious, we have the internet."

Blushing, the Alex projection walked away quickly, to sit in a different chair, "I didn't know what you two were going to do. And I still cannot quite fathom why..."

"Why what, my inquisitive little android-to-be?"

"... That looked tiring. And sweaty. And rather uncomfortable, at times... So, normally neither of you would enjoy those things."

"You are pretty spot on, actually. The thing is... Actually..." Grinning, Dr Elune looked at Alex smugly, "You know what? If you are so curious, I can show you once AHOR is completed."

"I think I will pass, thank you."

"You say this now... But you will grow curious, expecially once your body is done. You will see." Laying back down, the doctor sighed, "Do me a favour, and get me a drink? You weren't kidding about the tiring... And sweaty."

Nodding, Alex sent a drone to the fridge to pick something. Still thoroughly confused as to some of the actions humans partake in, Alex started to think on project AHOR some more, trying to refine the build of the full prototype as the doctor added, "Oh, by the way... Anything interesting as I was... Occupied?"

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Dr Silverthorne sent through a confirmation, stating that the experts she knows will be here in a little over a week. They had some work nearby it turns out, so the transit will not be that long."

Jumping up, the doctor stared at Alex, "A week? I was expecting another month, minumum! And that was expecting them on the closest Relay Station. I guess that is good though... We don't need to prepare much, and it will help to get things done quicker."

"I agree, doctor. Shall I prepare me, ahem, "Funtion" list for you?"

"Sure, that would be useful. Get things mapped out sooner rather than later. A week..." Frowning, the doctor stood up, and walked over to the computer, "There is nothing close enough publicly owned. Privately, maybe... But that would be an odd coincidence being so close."

"I do agree it is odd, doctor. Here, your drink."

"Thank you." Sipping at the cool glass, the doctor frowned as they scanned the records, "Local mining operations, like this place used to be. Nothing else. There is only one other explanation... They were headed this way anyway."

"Or they could be headed to somwhere else in the ring, and have decided to reroute to here. Stop worrying, doctor."

"Hmm... There is that other station around the other side, in the more popular 4th haven as they call it. Maximoff recently made a stop there for a sponsor."

"Perhaps they will even call-"

"They better not. The theories are too different: Maximoff is all about servos and shifting plates."

"We know that. The team heading this way might not."

"Well, ask Judith to pass on the message not to contact anyone else. This is to remain mostly internal... Don't want too many visitors, in general."

"Very well, doctor. I shall leave you to relax, and I shall arrange things accordingly."

As the projector flickered off, Dr Elune sighed... No rest for the lethargic, it seemed.
