Ch 66: Innocence and Curiosity

Alex wandered into the lab, coughing quietly behind Dr Elune as they worked on possible alterations to the shuttle's hull, "Are you... Busy?"

The doctor looked up, blinking a they minimised the work they were doing, "Not particularly. I think this is more Laura and Jolana's field... They know more about the kenetic fields than I do."

Alex nodded slightly, sitting down slowly in a nearby chair, "Kenetic fields... An apt name. And funny you should mention Jolana..."

Raising an eyebrow, Dr Elune shuffled through the papers on the desk, sorting them and filing a page here and there, "Oh? You didn't do anything embarrasing, did you?"

Alex blushed slightly, mouth opening slightly before they mulled their response over a bit more. Dr Elune's eyes widened, a grin creeping over their face, "Okay, story time. Start at the beginnning."

Alex sighed, nodding as they tried to supress their blush, muttering under their breath, "Need to reconfigure that response... It happens too easily now..." Coughing again, Alex spoke up, "Well, it started fairly simply. I was, well... Bored. So, I thought I would pay Jolana a visit. I still had to show her the simulated worlds, after all."

Dr Elune nodded, rememebring the detailed replication of the Havens that Alex had produced. They remained silent for now, letting Alex continue the story, "So, I pulled up the sim on screen, running off of the shuttle... All is well and good. Then she asked how you made something so refined, and detailed."

Dr Elune grinned, "Well, I didn't... You did."

Alex fidgeted slightly, "Exactly. I said as much to her... And her eyes just lit up. So, feeling a little... Proud, I suppose, I mentioned we had a vr setup so she could even interact with the sim, complete with realistic physics."

Dr Elune laughed, not able to hold it in, "And so you showed her around... Did she swoon?"

Alex blushed brighter, taking a deep breath, "... Possibly. She was certainly more... Friendly after that. Closer, too."

Dr Elune exerted as much willpower as they could to regaining a straight face, "Ah, I see. And since you have managed to woo the daughter of our benefactor... You are feeling nervous?"

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Alex laughed quietly, leaning back, "Kind of. It wasn't the benefactor part... It was the reaction. I mean, I have seen you get rather... Flirtatious. But, me?"

Dr Elune patted Alex on the arm, smiling softly, "Well, keep in mind you are rather ambigious. She may have only been acting friendly. And besides... I bet you have a lot more people to woo in your lifetime~"

Alex rolled their eyes, "Her comments suggested a little more, at times. I still don;t know how to react... It is not something I have considered."

Dr Elune shrugged, "Take some inspiration from us humans: Don't. Don't think about it. You have impulses now... What do you feel that you want to do about this?"

Alex looked down, thoughtful as they spoke slowly, "Well... I'm not exactly... Against the idea. I hadn't been intending on it, either... I am certainly curious... But this could go awkwardly..."

Dr Elune smiled as they shook their head, "I think you should just do it. After all... She is mature enough to understand if things don't match between you. Greg wouldn't just kick us out, either. The only thing left is your nature... Which she would have found out sooner or later, anyway."

Alex glanced up, nervous, "You think it is alright? Getting closer to her out of... Curiosity?"

Dr Elune nodded, "You are honest... And caring. After show her the interior of the shuttle, she will understand if you... Are a bit knew to, you know, emotions. I will invite her over to give her the tour in two days."

As Alex glanced up curiously, the doctor pointed out, "It is getting late, and this will not be a short discussion. And I have people to talk to tomorrow... A theater production company this time, I beleive."

Alex nodded, "The HPS are incredibly useful... But, thankfully, you are starting to dwindle down in bookings. We can start focusing back on AHOR, now." Glancing around, Alex smiled, "Thank you, doctor. I will try my best to act calmly until we give her the tour."

Dr ELune nodded as Alex got back up, having to go attend to other things. Turning back to the desk, they chuckled quietly... Things might get interesting around here~
