Ch 77: Setting the Hook

Dr Elune smiled as they entered the room, Thomas sitting behind a dsk, "Ah, about time. Thought you had gotten lost."

"I had, even with the navigator. There was a rather inconvenient road block." Sitting down, the doctor sighed as they sunk into the seat.

"Ahh, that would do it. So, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"What, can't I come and visit?" Dr Elune grinned cheekily.

"Sure! I just ever eexpect you to." Chuckling, Thomas tapped on a display, brining up a list, "I assume this is about the volunteers?"

"In part, yeah. You have a list of prospect, all ready and willing?"

Thomas frowned, "That depends. Most of them want more details, and some I have been hesitant to actually ask... I can confirm the contacts are up to date, though."

Dr Elune nodded, "This may help, then: I have a leaflet that needs handing out to each, help explain the risks and proceedure in the prosthetic intergration. If they confirm, we are looking into having blood samples locally tested, so we can test rejection rates before the fact."

"Hah, a step ahead I see. That should help soothe them. Anything else?"

"... Not particularly. I also wanted to have a chat, if that was alright?"

Thomas nodded, "Sure. What's on your mind?"

"Ahh, just fretting. Laura, our engineer, has gone back for a bit, help organise us a longer outing from the station. Unfortunately... She was also in charge of all the prototyping. So, we wont be able to actually produce AHOR parts until she returns, which won't be for a few months."

"Oh well. Most of those test of yours would take a while anyway, and some convincing may still be needed." Thomas chucled, "Shame, though. Seeing some more of your disasterous testing would have been a sight to behold."

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Dr Elune groaned, "It would indeed." Dr Elune hesitated, "We also need a bit more time anyway... There was one component we were stuggling with, getting it workable."

"Oh? The drone examples you displayed seemed to work just fine."

"... Thing is, we have a super computer in our shuttle." Dr Elune giggled, "Helps run the firmware, which isn't so good for mass production. The human mind alone can't quite get the AHOR units to work, so getting the interpreter to be a bit... Smaller is proving challenging."

Thomas smirked, "Ahhh, now I see. I did find it odd, how the device intergrated as easily as it did. Must be a dang smart computer you got."

Dr Elune nodded, "It is indeed. Why, I plan on showing it off, if I can... But not as a product, rather as a breakthrough." A smile crept over the doctor's face, "Say... Do you have any interest in VR?"

Thomas laughed, "Most people these days do, aside from the purists and hands-on types. You saying this mystery machine can show me the world?"

"That and more. We haven't set up any two-way systems, due to the nature of those... But, an immersive ride is still something we are proud to offer. Just, try not to get addicted, will you?"

"Hah, now you are just teasing." Thomas smiled as he glanced at the display, "I guess you will be wanting a visit soon then, so you may show off these amazing powers your machine posseses?"

"That I do. That, and you make for rather entertaining company."

Thomas laughed, "As do you. I'll see what I have available."
