Mengdie quickly rushed to Edward's side, keeping a watchful eye on White Shadow while patting his shoulder: "Are you okay? What exactly happened? Did he do all this?"
Seeing Mengdie by his side, Edward's listless expression instantly became spirited. He lifted his sword, swung it, and looked tensely at White Shadow, who remained unresponsive.
"Black Flame Serpent! They're trying to abduct my father!"
Mengdie nodded, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. More than that, she was worried about Sasa La lying there. After briefly explaining to Edward that Sasa La was in the room behind them and asking a few soldiers to check on her, she thought for a moment and stood in front of the throne.
"Edward. Do you want to get through this crisis?"
How could Edward not want to? Looking over there, White Shadow had already stood up again. Despite the blood on his lips, his strength was still undeniable!
"If you do, then hurry to the treasury and bring me my necklace! Then, I will take care of the enemy in front of you."
Edward, with his sword, looked at the frail girl beside him, her clothes torn and her steps shaky. Just a necklace to defeat this enemy? He couldn't believe it!
"Mengdie, it's dangerous here, you should escape! Don't worry, even if it costs my life, I won't let him harm a hair on your head!"
Mengdie was about to be driven mad by this blockhead! No matter what she said, the prince just wouldn't leave to retrieve her necklace. Watching the powerful force right in front of him and not knowing how to use it, was this guy's head really made of wood?!
"Ah, dear lady. Hehehe... I always said that our reunion is tied by the threads of fate."
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Finally, White Shadow stood up again. He wiped the blood from his lips and walked towards Mengdie, stopping ten steps away from her.
The intense oppression returned! Mengdie would like to believe that Sasa La's Vacuum Arrow had reduced this scoundrel's fighting power to a very low level. But still, she knew White Shadow was not someone she could handle now!
"Fool! Go get my stuff for me now!"
"Mengdie, I'm sorry! I can't attend to your vanity right now. Let's talk after this crisis is over!"
Mengdie pushed Edward away, irritated and tempted to punch him again! But the stubborn prince wouldn't budge, still holding his sword, focused on the enemy! Come on, you said you trusted me, right? Then trust me and go get the necklace!
White Shadow approached, and under the immense pressure, Edward couldn't bear it and charged forward! His sword slashed through the air, aiming to cleave White Shadow in two!
"Puff!"
A soft sound, and Edward's giant sword was caught mid-air by a hand. Although White Shadow no longer displayed the invisibly fast moves that had flung Edward earlier, merely catching the sword with his palm was still shocking.
"Rest for now, esteemed prince. You are not within my target range yet."
With a flick of his palm, Edward's numbed hand dropped the sword. After effortlessly repelling Edward, White Shadow's gaze turned to Mengdie standing in front of the throne, his face wearing a smile.
"Sweetheart, are you my next opponent?"
White Shadow's words were clear; the only one left to protect the old king and still capable of fighting was Mengdie. Everyone silently watched her, even the king, who had been eager to imprison her, now looked hopeful.
But...
Mengdie stepped aside, leaving the path to the throne open. "Oh? Sweetheart, don't you want to serve your king?" White Shadow's smile turned into a puzzled one.
Mengdie shook her head, hands behind her back, turned to the throne, and spoke firmly, "Your Majesty, if I say I need a piece of jewelry from your treasury to have the strength to deal with this enemy, will you do it?"
Regardless of Mengdie's intentions, her words sounded like a blatant threat to the audience. Even in dire situations, a king couldn't accept such overt threats. And how could a girl barely reaching Edward's chest handle an enemy thirty Royal Knights couldn't defeat?
"Impudent peasant! Don't try to threaten me!"
Mengdie stepped back again, leaving the throne completely exposed to White Shadow. She commented indifferently, "I'm far weaker than you, I can't stop you."
White Shadow adjusted his white hat, his lips curling into an amused smile. He lifted his right leg and took a step forward. But before he could lift his left leg, the figure in white... completely vanished.
Vanished? Would he appear before the old king?
Everyone wondered, looking towards the throne. But to their disappointment, there was no White Shadow beside the old king, who trembled with fear. Where could White Shadow be now?
In those split-second moments, Mengdie saw White Shadow. The man in the white cloak stood right in front of her, smiling. In a flash, his right hand moved towards Mengdie's forehead, his middle finger poised.
"Heh."
A soft chuckle escaped his lips. Instantly, his finger flicked Mengdie's forehead. This seemingly gentle motion sent her flying like a cannonball!
She spun six times in the air, rebounding upon landing, flying across the hall and slamming into the marble wall at the edge of the venue. Only then did her tumbling stop.
