Unbeknownst to them, the streets were now devoid of patrolling soldiers. Fiery red butterflies were fluttering chaotically in the sky, on the streets, and in the alleys. Observing closely, Mengdie noticed that all these butterflies seemed to be originating from Aya and Nia's house.
Retreating into the shadows, Mengdie closed her eyes to think. She checked her wounds – they were no longer bleeding, though not fully healed. The main issue was the lingering soreness in her body, but it wasn't life-threatening.
"Nia, wait here for a bit, I'll be back soon."
As Mengdie was about to leave, Nia quickly grabbed her hand, fear evident in her eyes.
"Mengdie sister, are you going to leave me here alone?"
Mengdie frowned slightly. She had promised Aya to take good care of this little girl. It was hard to say whether the situation ahead was a trap; she couldn't let Nia take such a risk.
But on second thought, leaving her here might be even more dangerous. And if the summoning was not malicious, it would be more convenient to keep Nia close.
"Okay, follow me closely. But don't move or speak without my permission, understand?"
Nia nodded.
"Let's go."
Mengdie took Nia's hand and, under the cover of night, swiftly crossed the street towards their house...

Fortunately, Mengdie's gamble paid off. On the square in front of the house, three people were present: Edward pacing around with a sword and a worried look; his most loyal servant, Dobber, standing by his side; and Sisco, conjuring the fiery butterflies.
"Mengdie sister…?" Nia whispered from the shadows of a building.
"Shh, don't speak," Mengdie patted Nia's shoulder. "Wait here."
Mengdie broke free from Nia's grasp and walked confidently into the square.
Seeing Mengdie, Edward immediately ran over with a childlike smile, arms wide as if to embrace her. Mengdie, not in the mood to reminisce, skillfully dodged him.
"Mengdie! You're okay! Really okay? Do you know how worried I was after you escaped? Luckily, I managed to withdraw the patrolling soldiers by deceiving my father and had Sisco summon you. You finally came out!"
Mengdie raised her hand to stop Edward and turned to Sisco, asking coldly, "How's Aya?"
Sisco clapped his hands, extinguishing the butterflies. He stepped forward and calmly said, "Rest assured. Aya is under the personal care of my wife."
Relieved, Mengdie finally faced Edward: "So, you risked danger to call me out this late, what do you want?"
Edward wanted to express his concern and longing, but knowing Mengdie's likely reaction, he hesitated.
"Mengdie, please drink this healing potion first," Dobber intervened, handing her a small vial with a few drops of liquid.
Mengdie, trusting their intentions, swallowed the liquid. She immediately felt a cool sensation spreading through her body. Her wounds began to heal, and the muscular soreness eased. The potion's healing effect was far from "seemingly good" – it was miraculous!
"What is this potion?"
"Consider it a regular healing potion," Dobber replied with a smile.
Mengdie nodded, grateful for the rapid recovery it facilitated.
"Alright, if you have nothing else, let me ask," said Mengdie, straightening her hair, tangled from sleeping in the corner.
"Edward, I don't want to ask about anything else right now. Call me selfish, but all I want to know is whether my necklace is still there. That's my power. Only when I regain my power can I help your father find those thieves and retrieve your... what was it... the cup."
"The King's Cup," Edward corrected.
"Right, the King's Cup. So, where's my necklace?"
Mengdie's eyes hardened at the mention of the necklace. Edward's apologetic look said it all.
"Damn!" Mengdie clenched her fist in anger. "Black Flame Snake, you've truly angered me! Edward! Do you know which direction the thieves went?"
Edward, startled by Mengdie's fury, replied, "They... were seen leaving the city, heading northeast..."
"Northeast, huh?!" Mengdie checked the direction with her compass and headed for the city gate.
Edward, seeing this, grabbed her: "Mengdie! What are you doing?"
"To save Aya, I must retrieve your father's cup!" Mengdie shook off his hand, her gaze fixed northeast. "White Shadow, you are strong, but now you've involved Aya. No more words!"
And with that, Mengdie sprinted off, determined to recover her stolen power and save Aya.
