"Ow..." The pain at her fingertip made Mengdie instinctively drop the scissors. A delicate line of blood slowly appeared on her fair, slender finger, and a crystal-clear drop of blood, brilliant like a gem, slowly welled up.
Mengdie quickly put her finger in her mouth, carefully sucking on it. The slight pain brought tears to her eyes again.
Hearing Mengdie's soft moan, Hsiu, who had been "studying science" on the side, turned around. Seeing the girl sucking her finger, tears in her eyes, he quickly dispelled the formulas in the air and approached with his wand, extending his hand.
"Let me see. I'm curious why a pair of gloves could make such a lovely girl cry."
Mengdie, blushing with anger, handed the gloves to Hsiu. After examining them, he burst into laughter.
"So, it's made from Death Hunter lizard leather. No wonder. Miss Mengdie, all the scissors in this clothing store are for cutting girls' dresses. How could they possibly cut through something like this?"
Hsiu's blunt statement drew hostile looks from the staff, including the owner.
"What should I do then? If I can't cut off the fingertips, buying these gloves would be useless," Mengdie said, taking her finger out of her mouth, but after a few seconds, the blood reappeared, and she hastily sucked on it again, annoyed at having to do so. She felt disproportionately pained for such a minor injury.
Hsiu examined the gloves, then pulled out a dagger emitting a silver light and with a strange design. With a quick slice at the fingertips of the gloves, he easily cut off the obstructive parts, transforming them into specialized fighting gauntlets.
"Wow, your knife is really sharp!" Mengdie remarked, taking her no-longer-bleeding finger out of her mouth.

Hsiu proudly brandished the dagger in front of Mengdie, boasting, "Impressive, right? It's another one of my inventions! Don't underestimate this little dagger. I've honed it countless times and carefully embedded fragments of a 'Destruction' magic stone into the blade. The hardest part wasn't embedding the magic stone fragments, but figuring out how to mechanically channel the energy from the fragments while keeping the device compact..."
As Hsiu rambled about his invention, Mengdie resisted the urge to cover her ears, stepping forward to take the gauntlets. But curiously, Hsiu suddenly pulled back when Mengdie reached out, his smile sending shivers down her spine.
"What are you doing?" Mengdie became alert, remembering how she was caught off guard by Edward, allowing him to snatch the necklace right before her eyes. She barely knew Hsiu for a day; who knew what he was thinking?
Hsiu stepped back with a chuckle, not looking like he was planning to flee. Instead, he pulled out two ping-pong-ball-sized half-spheres.
"Don't be angry, Miss Mengdie. I'm a genius scientist! You acknowledged it when you saw my dagger, right? How about this? Since you want to use these gauntlets as a weapon, you wouldn't mind if I, a genius, made some small modifications, right? Right?"
"Modifications???" Mengdie relaxed, curious to see what this so-called waste scientist and magician had in mind.
Hsiu grinned again, placing the gauntlets backside up on a nearby table. He then carefully placed the two discs on the gauntlets, pressing lightly on them.
A faint halo appeared on the discs, and on closer inspection, one could see the discs merging with the gauntlets at the bottom! In just a few seconds, the discs fully integrated with the gauntlets. Then, the halo vanished, and the tops of the discs, which seemed to have glass covers, snapped open, revealing a slot that could hold something.
"Done!" Hsiu triumphantly handed the gauntlets to Mengdie.
"These two devices are 'Magic Stone Power Transmutation Devices for External Display to Enhance Attack Power' that I made a couple of years ago with this dagger..."
Mengdie frowned, "What a tongue-twister... Nia, keep practicing."
"No, no, no, Miss Mengdie, you misunderstand scientists. Who says a genius scientist must be a master of naming? Anyway, these two devices, now integrated with the gauntlets, can extract the power of magic stones placed in these slots through the movement of your hand muscles and manifest it in physical form. Like..."
Hsiu scratched his head, rummaging in his pocket. Laughing, he pulled out a small purple stone, placed it in the slot of Mengdie's gauntlet, and closed the cover.
"Now swing your fist and see."
After setting it up, Hsiu stepped back, gesturing for Mengdie to try it out. She looked skeptically at the device on the gauntlet, but still positioned herself, clenched her fist, and took a deep breath...
"Whoosh—!!!"
She swung her fist with full force! At first glance, it seemed no different from her usual punches. But as soon as the punch was fully extended, a wondrous sight appeared on Mengdie's fist!
"Crackle... zap."
It was lightning! With Mengdie's punch, purple and cyan electric sparks appeared on her fist, tracing the path of her swing! Amidst the crackling sounds, silk garments near her fist fluttered as if attracted. Nia, practicing elbow strikes beside Mengdie, felt a tingling sensation in her body.
