"Really, where did Miss Mengdie go?" Xiu, left far behind by Mengdie, trudged through the dense underbrush with his staff. His lack of speed and agility hindered him further in the forest.
"Speaking of which, the forest at night is quite frightening with all its unknown creatures," he mused as nocturnal animals began to stir with the rising moon. Every few steps, he saw shadows darting in the depths of the forest. The darkness was alive with pairs of glowing eyes, sending shivers down his spine.
Shivering, Xiu took out a stick filled with a white substance and shook it vigorously, illuminating the area and warding off the darkness.
With the light guiding him, Xiu sighed in relief and continued his journey. "Miss Mengdie, please be safe. The forest at night is dangerous, and if there are any wild beasts..."
Suddenly, a shadow dashed in front of Xiu, startling him into a loud scream, but he relaxed upon realizing it was just a fox. "So, this forest is a fox's territory. At least it's not a ferocious beast..."
As Xiu regained his composure and moved forward, he suddenly heard a piercing scream cutting through the night – unmistakably Mengdie's voice. "What happened to her? What could make her, fearless even in the face of the Black Flame Serpent, scream like that?!"
"Miss Mengdie! Miss Mengdie!!!" Xiu frantically pushed through the bushes, rushing towards the source of the scream. He saw a figure falling from a tree into a pile of grass. Hurriedly, he plunged his staff into the ground, illuminating the area, and pulled the figure from the grass.

"Miss Mengdie?! Miss Mengdie, wake up! What happened?!"
Under the dim light, Xiu recognized Mengdie in his arms, her face weary, the gemstone necklace on her chest dimmed.
Mengdie slowly regained consciousness and looked at Xiu with a hint of confusion. Her hands were still delicate, her nails still the pink of a young girl's, and by Xiu's expression, her face hadn't changed either.
Damn it... Did the spell go wrong because of that fox's sudden appearance?
Feeling weak all over, Mengdie struggled to sit up, offering Xiu some perfunctory words. Seeing she was okay, Xiu relaxed, but suddenly his expression changed to one of shock and disbelief as the light from his staff neared Mengdie.
Unaware of Xiu's reaction, Mengdie shook her head and stood up...

She suddenly realized her hair felt shorter. Touching it, she found it only reached her waist now. The transformation spell had worked, but only to shorten her hair, not to change it to a boy's style.
Noticing Xiu's strange look, Mengdie asked, "Hey, what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like I'm a monster?" She looked down at herself, noticing no changes, and asked again.
Xiu, speechless, pointed tremblingly at something behind Mengdie. Turning, she saw nothing but darkness. Asking again, Xiu finally responded:
"Miss Mengdie... your... your..."
"My what?" Mengdie was puzzled.
"Your... you've grown a tail?"
A fluffy fox tail wagged behind Mengdie, connected to her spine, a shocking reality. Mengdie, initially in disbelief, felt the tail and realized it was indeed part of her.
What's going on? Why do I have a tail?!
Frantically trying to catch her tail, Mengdie soon realized it was futile as it was attached to her. Seeing it clearly, she noted it was yellow with a white tip, identical to the fox she had encountered earlier.
Despairingly, Mengdie realized she could control the tail – it had truly become a part of her.
"Um... Miss Mengdie..." Xiu scratched his face awkwardly, smiling. He then pointed at the top of Mengdie's head, "I was wondering about those fox ears on your head... Is that a personal preference, or are you actually a member of the beastkin?"
