"Attention to those inside, please quickly leave their vicinity. Otherwise, the next thing I shoot won't be ice arrows, but 'exposure arrows'."
Upon hearing this voice, Mengdie's eyes suddenly brightened! The knife-wielding assailants, however, began to panic.
"Water's Fluctuation — Linda Xiues? How can this be? Why would she be here?! This contradicts the intelligence we received!"
"Oh no! If 'Water's Fluctuation' has arrived, then 'Flame Thunder Driver' must be here too! We need to leave!"
Hearing the voices outside, the assassins who were about to kill hurriedly escaped from the warehouse with swift movements, disappearing in an instant.
After the assassins left, Mengdie finally let out a sigh of relief. But before she could fully relax, flames suddenly burst into the storage room from the outside hall. If she didn't leave immediately, she would surely be burned alive.
Edward, covered in blood, quickly realized the gravity of the situation and hurried over to help Mengdie. But just as he was about to ask for help near the wall, the wall, already riddled with numerous holes, suddenly exploded!
"Miss Mengdie! And the young prince! Hurry! Come out quickly!"
Through the broken wall, to Mengdie's surprise, it wasn't Linda who appeared, but Xiu?! He was covered in soot, and his robe was scorched in several places. Beside him stood an unharmed little Nia.
"Sister Mengdie! Ahhhhhh~!"
Upon seeing Mengdie, Nia couldn't hold back anymore and rushed to hug her, bursting into tears. Mengdie consoled Nia while looking around. After confirming she didn't see Linda and Sisko, she immediately asked, "Where's Linda? Xiu, have you seen a female magician???"
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Xiu brushed off the dust from his clothes, grabbed Mengdie's hand, and started pulling her towards a carriage on a nearby street. He turned back and chuckled, pulling out a megaphone-like device, and then, a voice that Mengdie and Edward couldn't believe came out of his mouth.
"Are you looking for me, Miss Mengdie?"
"Linda!!!"
Edward exclaimed in shock!
Xiu tucked the small megaphone back into his large robe, helped Mengdie into the carriage, and said, "Alright, Miss Mengdie, now that you understand the situation, you must also understand our predicament. We must escape immediately before those people realize our situation! The ice arrows I shot earlier took me several minutes to conjure and nearly depleted all my magic power! I don't have the confidence to deceive them again."
Sitting beside Mengdie, Nia, who was leaning against her, nodded repeatedly, saying, "Yeah, yeah, he was flipping through books and drawing magic circles, and it took so long just to cast that spell. I was so nervous!"
Mengdie, now extremely weak, could only respond with a smile to Nia's nervousness.
At six o'clock in the morning, the carriage stopped steadily at the lakeside dock. Nia and Edward, supporting Mengdie, followed Xiu in a rush onto the boat. To cover the bloodstains on Mengdie and Edward, Xiu brought two cloaks and draped them over them, retreating to a secluded cargo hold at the rear of the boat. As the whistle sounded, the ship slowly began to move, sailing into the vast expanse of Lake Mississippi.
"Phew, it looks like they didn't follow us."
Xiu surveyed the surroundings, leaning on his staff as he entered the cargo hold and closed the door. He sat down in front of Mengdie, Edward, and Nia.
The boat rocked gently, its speed not too fast. Mengdie sighed helplessly and, with Nia's help, removed her apprentice robe, leaning against the wall and gasping for air. Once her breathing eased slightly, she struggled to raise her head and asked, "Xiu, how did you end up there?"
Xiu laughed heartily, reaching into his robe and pulling out another device that made Mengdie feel nauseous just looking at it. The proud magic apprentice held the machine, kissing it passionately, and said, "I heard you were leaving by boat this morning, so I worked overnight to create 'Mengdie3' as a farewell gift. But I didn't expect to arrive at the mayor's residence and see that fire. And I even rescued this little girl from the fire."
Xiu laughed while pointing at Nia, who was nestled beside Mengdie, still uncomfortable around him.
Xiu respectfully placed "Mengdie3" in front of Mengdie and continued, "But I didn't expect to end up on the boat with you. Seems I was too nervous. After we reach Mave City (a port city on Lake Mississippi, part of the Luville Empire), I need to take a boat back. Hehehe."
Mengdie's pain persisted, and even a short conversation exhausted her, her face showing signs of agony.
Although Edward's injuries were also severe, they were less critical compared to Mengdie's. He quickly threw off his cloak, knelt beside Mengdie with his sword, looking frantic.
"Mengdie? Are you alright? Are you in pain anywhere?"
Edward, seeing the burns on Mengdie's arm, showed a mix of panic and pity in his eyes. He wanted to hold her hand but was afraid of hurting her more. Lost and clueless, he could only look at Mengdie helplessly, sweating with anxiety.
"Mengdie, don't worry! You... you just need to sleep, and these wounds will heal on their own. Don't be nervous, just rest well. Even if enemies come now, I will be your guarding sword and drive them all away! Just sleep, just sleep..."
