The Swirling Distortion

Chapter 71 The Swirling Distortion

The wolf sighed and said, "Anyway, regardless of my earlier statement, how about we finish restoring the distortions to their former natural state?" "That seems like something we should do," Lucia agreed and walked beside the wolf. They soon reached the distortion she had hit with her propelled energy blade.

When they neared the distortion, Lucia noticed that it had already begun to fade. "Huh, that's strange. It looks like the distortion is melding back into the world," she remarked. "You might be right in that observation," the wolf said, responding to her confusion. "But in any case, that should be a good sign. We might understand more about the distortions if we inspect this one."

"Right," Lucia said, looking around at all the other distortions in worry, believing they would soon grow out of control. The wolf reassured her that it wouldn't happen and voiced its confidence. "We don't need to worry for a while since I have prevented the further growth of the other distortions inside this area by sectioning it off with my power. I would estimate that the limit of my power will be at least a few days."

Lucia's relief was palpable as she absorbed the information, and then she spoke, her tone determined. "Given that we're not under any pressure to address the remaining distortions, we could take the opportunity to thoroughly investigate this one until we have a complete understanding of it." The wolf agreed with her, saying, "That sounds like a good idea. We might as well take the chance."

Lucia and the wolf stood at a safe distance away from the swirling distortion, observing it closely. Lucia began scanning the actively melding distortion with her aura and felt a strange sense of connection with it. She felt herself losing her sense of self in the distortion, and then her vision was consumed by it. Then she felt her connection to her witch hat about to be severed. The wolf shook her, snapping her out of the strange trance.

The wolf asked the witch hat if it was okay, noting that the distortions seemed to be causing mental confusion. The wolf expressed concern, mentioning that the effects may be the same as the distortion it had experimented with.

After taking a moment to steady herself, Lucia responded, assuring the wolf that she was unharmed. "I don't feel that great, but I must admit, knowing your name would make me feel a bit better."
