Chapter 107 Boomerang

As Dahdin watched the parasite consume the spear, he strategized in his mind. 'So, using weapons like these will only strengthen the mist constructs, making it easier for the parasite to acclimate and construct better-formed weapons.'

Dahdin deformed the weapons he had created, allowing them to fall to the ground in heaps of dirt. Instead, he tried producing a weapon composed only of his element, without any physical matter accompanying it. He conjured an arrow made of earth, then discharged it, striking the mist. At the moment of contact, the arrow dispersed along with some of the parasite.

'That was unexpected... But it seemed to have worked out. So there won't be a complaint from me. It looks like the parasite won't be able to deconstruct anything it can't consume,' he concluded.

To test his theory further, Dahdin conjured daggers and other consumable weapons with and without the accompaniment of the soil. He threw a single dagger, accompanied by earth, at the parasite, aiming for its armor. Upon impact, the poorly formed armor shattered, causing the dagger to bounce off and preventing the parasite from absorbing it. The parasite then absorbed the shattered remains of its armor bit by bit and reformed its once-broken armor, which now appeared more developed than its previous iteration.

This action left Dahdin with questions. Was it the consumption of better-crafted weapons that allowed for its refinement, or was it the repeated process of remaking that led to progress? Regardless, the strike from the dagger seemed to dispel some of the mist surrounding the parasite, though it did not disintegrate as it had with the pure element.

Dahdin conducted another test, this time targeting the parasite's exposed body. He threw a disk-like object that he had heard humans call a boomerang. Having observed it in action before, Dahdin remembered that it could return to the thrower, which led him to believe it would be the perfect tool against the parasite.

The parasite was now stumbling toward Dahdin, unused to its legs but quickly gaining momentum as it learned. Dahdin threw the boomerang at the parasite and made contact. However, the boomerang dropped to the ground and did not return to Dahdin's side. "Tsk, I was mistaken to trust in a human invention," he muttered.

As he reflected on this, the parasite bent down and picked up the weapon on the ground, consuming it through its hand. Once again, the weaponry along its four arms was refining and taking on a proper shape. Among the new assortment of weapons was the boomerang that Dahdin had thrown. It mimicked his action, though clumsily, which resulted in poor aim, missing Dahdin entirely.
