Chapter 98 Instincts
After endless digging, Dahdin once again experienced a familiar sensation. As he crossed to the other side of the hole, he scanned the area for the light he had seen before. When Dahdin spotted the light, he walked toward it, dragging his feet to mark his way back to the hole.
As he trekked toward the light, his mind replayed everything and considered what would happen if he changed his approach. While he was contemplating, Dahdin reached the ray of light. He found that the spot he had dug was filled in. Finding this strange, Dahdin circled the light a few times while sniffing it, trying to whiff traces of something that might have filled the hole back in. After smelling the area for a while, he couldn't find any scent that might have restored the hole he had dug.
Turning his back to the light, Dahdin searched for the depressions in the ground he had made. When he found them, he walked alongside the marks. While looking down at the ground, he noticed something odd happening ahead on the path he had created. He was puzzled about why the impression had been filled in and smoothed out. Focusing on the section of the trail closer to him, he spotted a depression that had not yet been filled and was gradually being covered.

Dahdin felt a sense of fear regarding the unusual recovery of the land. He sensed no natural force returning the ground to its untouched state. He was apprehensive about what might happen to him if the strange phenomenon that smoothed out the depressions caught up with him, and he preferred not to dwell on it.
Dahdin decided to cancel his plan of returning to the hole he had dug to inspect it. Instead, he sprinted toward the ray of light and glanced back at the hole as it refilled. What he saw shook him to his core. The speed at which the indentations filled in seemed to increase as he ran, almost as if it were mocking his haste.
When Dahdin reached the ray of light, he urgently began to dig into the ground again, not daring to look back at the horrifying scene behind him; his instincts feared the unfolding natural phenomenon. He broke through the surface again but didn't look back at the hole, his senses consumed by terror. He just ran toward the ray of light, continuing to dig many times.
