Rose wasn't afraid of him, though. The thought of his sister made him turn his head to see her fast asleep some distance away from him.
He sat up and crawled over to her. He looked down at her as she slept. He remembered those times she would comfort him when he would wake up from a nightmare......
Five year old Gabriel ran into his sister's room. "Rose, Rose!" He cried. When his sister woke up, she looked at him with concern.
"What is it, Gabriel?"
"It's the darkness, it's too scary....I can't sleep!" He crawled into her bed and shuddered and cried in her shoulder.

Rose comforted him. "Gabriel, it's just the night - "
"I can't see what's out there!"
"Shh." She whispered softly. "The night will be over soon; daylight will appear in the darkness. Are you having those dreams again?"
Gabriel shook his head. "They're outside......those monsters!"
Rose had been aware that her little brother had been haunted by visions of black wolves. It started ever since their parents died.
As if hearing her thoughts, Gabriel then said. "They killed them, Rose!"
She held him tightly. Growing up, the both of them have been taught that seeing a black wolf will bring death. They're considered bad omens.......Rose didn't really believe in the superstition, but her little brother bought every word.
Now every time he tries to sleep at night, he struggles.....afraid that the black wolves were out there......watching him. Those wolves camouflaged themselves to the darkness he is now afraid of.
"They're not going to come for you, I promise." She soothed.
Her little cried, shaking his head. "That's not what I'm afraid of, I don't want them to take you away from me!"
"Gabriel......"
