That night, Matthew lay awake, thinking over and over about what Valerian had said about the crystal. Why would such an evil thing be created? He wondered to himself. Would even touching it cause harm to a person? No, cause not only him, but Shadow and Valerian touched it, and they're not affected.

"I don't understand, what makes it so EVIL?" He mumbled to himself.

Suddenly he was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Shadow mutter.

"What was that, Shadow?" Matthew whispered to him. Oh, he forgot. Shadow talks in his sleep. Sometimes Matthew could wake up to him speaking something that wasn't English.

Matthew jumped when he heard him again, so he got up to check on him. The moment he put his hand on his shoulder to wake him, Shadow grabbed his wrist. His grip was hard!

"What the fuck are you doing?" Shadow glared.

"I was just - I - uh, you were in trouble! Matthew stammered.

Shadow looked around. "You're LUCKY we didn't wake the others!" He growled.

"I'm sorry!" Matthew said. "Jeez, you don't have to be an ass! You're not the black wolf anymore!"

Shadow looked away angrily, then sighed. "Don't remind me of those times..." he then looks back at Matthew. "Alright?"

Matthew nodded shakily. "Yeah."

Shadow then clapped a hand on his friend's shoulder. "I'm sorry."

"Nah, you're good, man."

Shadow then nods. "Go back to sleep."

"What about you?"

Shadow stares into the distance. "I'll be fine."

Matthew sighed. "Look, what I was saying a second ago about you no longer being the - "

Shadow slowly locked eyes on him, sternly. Matthew sighed again. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean that....it's just that you're different than the person we met several months back. I mean, it's a good THING, but....you know."

"Just go back to sleep, Matthew." Shadow said calmly.

"Again, Shadow....I'm sorry."

The blond haired boy looks at Matthew, then said. "It's alright, it's all good."
