Ch. 79 - Breakthrough (Part 1)

"Thank you, Jack. You have helped me to realize that my mind and soul were plagued with the thoughts of revenge," The new and improved Amber said. "I will kill you now, not for vengeance, but to deliver justice unto you...and for peace to return to this world."

I see. Jack thought as he smiled. Is the brat implying this is my fault?

The developer, who witnessed this, stood on top of a building in silence. A similar golden light materialized beside him as the developer gazed at Amber's angelic presence. The light gave form to a presence comparable to Amber but without physical features.

"Tch, you don't need to come here to tell me what I'm seeing," The developer stated as he clenched his fist. "I already know. I questioned it when I first saw her, but she now has that same brilliant light as yours. Amber Hoss is the one you blessed, and she has achieved enlightenment."

Damn it, what a terrible obstacle to show up so early in my game. The developer thought.

"You have no idea the indignation I feel towards the torment you and your tribe have put my daughter through," The presence said. "My heart is filled with fury, but also happiness...that my daughter has broken her shackles."

"Tch, stop acting like you care about her progress, Themis," The developer retorted. "Besides, I don't like how you're acting like this is over. Your 'daughter expended a lot of divine energy when she fought Jack before becoming enlightened. Even if she's broken her limits, she's not at her best--"

"What a nonsensical comment. The battle has been decided," Themis responded. "The demon is not at his best either, and no human could hope to best an ascended being."

Tch, so annoying. The developer thought. I hate to admit it, but she's right.

As Jack gazed at Amber's brilliance, blood seeped from his mouth and nose.

"Ugh...what the?" Jack uttered as he wiped the blood.

"The holy light which you are exposed to purifies all," Amber stated. "But, that is simply the start."

"Huh? You're talking all weird now that you look different!?" Jack teased. What the hell even happened to her? No, that's not important right now! This light burns! "Did you forget what I did to you a few minutes ago!?"

"Don't worry, I haven't forgotten your misdeeds. You want a battle where our passions are what guides us?" Amber questioned. "Well, I will give you that battle. I will bring burning justice. You degenerate demon."

The way she talks is so calm. It's soothing to the ears, even though she's making such threats. Jack thought. That pisses me off! After everything I've done to her, and this is how she acts! Haha, I'm going to kill her!

Jack sent several air slashes with his only blade. Amber, however, didn't even budge as they approached her.

Sparks suddenly generated as the air slashes were cut short of their intended target - more so being blocked off. Much to Jack's surprise, the glowing outline of Amber's barrier became visible as the slashes came close. No sooner had the sparks been defended against than the barrier's outline returned to invisibility.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Tch!" Jack hissed. "What the hell was that!?"

"Your fiendish attacks will do nothing--"

"Shut the hell up!" Jack yelled as he rushed Amber. He attempted to slash her head, but Amber disappeared before his eyes.

What!? Jack thought as he quickly turned around to see Amber behind him. She didn't even bother attacking and gazed at him through the eye bandages. He performed another swift slash, but to no avail, as Amber moved away again.

"Stay still so I can murder you!" Jack demanded as he slashed again. Amber took flight with the flapping of her angelic wings and avoided his slash. Jack's swing created an air slash that cut through multiple infrastructures.

"Tsk! You're flying now!?" Jack questioned as he looked up. You say you want to bring justice to me, but all you're doing is dodging! Why have you gotten this annoying, brat!?

As Amber flew in the skies, she noticed Jack following her.

It may be bit by bit, but I'm understanding my new self. I can't be careless, though, as the demon's blade is still lethal. Amber thought. But it's like an immense amount of knowledge flooded my mind...and I want to test it out.

"Why is this brat so fast!?" Jack questioned as he couldn't reach her. He attempted to throw out several air slashes, but it was futile due to Amber's sheer speed.

Much to his surprise, Amber suddenly stopped and hovered in the air before looking at the clouds.

I'm sorry...my family...Mr. Altius...Aiden...everyone. I'm sorry for realizing too late. Amber thought as golden-colored tears ran down her face through her eye bandages. But...I've now let go of all that hatred and vengeance I had. I will become a true savior.

"What the--"

BZZT!

Suddenly, Amber fired a beam of light from her index finger, which went through Jack's stomach before he could perceive it.

"Guh!" Jack uttered as he fell to his knees and clenched his stomach. What was that!? Did the brat throw an attack at me!? But I didn't even sense any killing intent from her! I didn't even see it!

As Jack kneeled to the ground, he violently began coughing blood. That did not concern him as much as the fact that Jack's blood had a yellowish glow to it.

Tch, it hurts! What the hell...is this!? Jack questioned.

Suddenly, Amber created a ball of energy in the palm of her right hand. Without hesitation, Amber casually dropped the ball. It slowly descended onto the environment before expanding and illuminating the area in light.

Jack, who was in the center of the light, began suffering burns on his body. The enlightened Amber proceeded to land gracefully in front of the kneeling Jack.

"I didn't explore most of what I can do, but you're already in this state," Amber commented as she looked down on him. "It's over, demon."

Damn...this damn brat! This isn't a goddamned comic book! Jack said as he gritted his teeth in anger and grabbed his dura-neg. There's a limit to how annoying you can be!

In a fit of rage, Jack sprung up and repeatedly slashed at Amber. Although he rapidly slashed and created airwaves that cut through numerous infrastructures, Amber casually avoided them.

"You're fighting is futile, demon," Amber said. "You won't win against a much stronger enemy with just anger or determination. As you said, this isn't a comic book."

"SHUT THE HELL UP!" Jack yelled as he continued slashing at her. My speed has been drastically slowed by just a couple of this brat's attacks...not that it matters if I was at full performance. Jack thought. But that does not matter. HER SURVIVING ME THIS MUCH AND TALKING THIS WAY IS SO ANNOYING!

"Huh?" Amber strangely uttered.

I'm starting to give less of a shit about anything else. Even the developer's mission is becoming irrelevant to me! Jack thought. Right now, I want to murder her more than anything!

As Amber avoided his attacks, she noticed a strange occurrence - a feint black miasma momentarily emanated from one of Jack's eyes.

"Hmm..."
