Ch. 35 - Breaking Point

"Heh, look on you. Drenched in the blood like the psycho criminals you despised! How delightful!" Ada mocked.

"Move before I kill you!" Nathan wasn't in the best mood to entertain Ada, given the current circumstances. In his ire, he strolled towards her with his bloody axe.

"Before I move, I want to show you something," Ada said as she tilted her sunglasses downward to reveal her eyes. "Look into my eyes, Nathan."

"Huh--"

Nathan had no time to process Ada's request. After a single glance at her eyes, he perceived a sudden morphing in his surroundings.

"W-What?" The confused Nathan questioned as he looked around. Nathan's confusion quickly changed to one of panic as he realized how familiar the new setting of the environment was.

From the rowdy noise of civilians to the large gallows they congregated around, Nathan remembered this event all too well. His panic intensified to horror as he witnessed the unlucky souls waiting to be hanged at the gallows - his parents.

As if re-enacting the past event, Nathan was given a clear view as he stood at the front of the congregation.

W-What...is this? Nathan questioned as he gazed upon his parents. The hooded executioner was currently placing the ropes over their necks. W-Why am I...remembering this!?

"HURRY UP AND KILL THEM!" This was but one of the harsh chants the civilians hurled towards his parents. It seems as though the yelling was barely understandable as civilians expressed their urges for his parents to die.

This doesn't seem...like a memory! Nathan thought as he broke out in a sweat. E-Everything looks...and feels...so real!

"M-Mom! Dad!" Hoping to receive a response, Nathan desperately called out. His hopes were quickly shattered as his parents didn't even move their heads despite Nathan being so physically close to them. It's as though they never registered his presence.

The executioner approached the lever to open the floors beneath their feet, greatly increasing the intensity of Nathan's panic.

"S-Stop!" Nathan yelled as he materialized a handgun and attempted to shoot the executioner. This proved futile as the bullets acted as though they phased through him and had no effect on the headsman.

"W-What?" Nathan uttered with confusion. His confusion was quickly replaced by despair as he witnessed the executioner pull the lever, causing his parents to descend through the floor and be hanged.

"No...no, no, no, no, no!!! STOP!!!" Nathan yelled as he witnessed their hanging. "I don't want to see this again!!!"

The sounds of them choking, the involuntary twitching of their bodies as they were deprived of air, and the joyous chants of the crowd as the life left the duo, the sounds and sight were all authentic. It was as though he was experiencing it again.

After the 'party' was finally over, the crowd quickly dispersed, leaving the broken Nathan on all fours in front of the gallows.

"W-Why...is this..."

Unfortunately for him, the psychological torture was not over, as the setting suddenly morphed into the living room of his home.

"H-Huh?" The broken Nathan questioned as he lifted his head. Sitting on the couch and watching a movie was Lilith, who Nathan observed. L-Lilith!? Y-You're alive?

"Lilith! W-What happened!?" Nathan questioned. "H-How did...we get home!?"

The television's audio was the only thing that spoke, as Lilith failed to register his presence. She kept her focus on the television.

Can she not hear me? What is going on!?

BANG!

Nathan and Lilith were startled as the door suddenly burst off its hinges. The cause was who Nathan least expected - Jack Knight.

"Hello, love," Jack greeted as he entered the house casually. Both Lilith and Nathan were frightened upon witnessing him. Her fear was so intense that Lilith hopped out of her couch in fear.

How the hell? Nathan uttered. D- Didn't he die? H..How is he...why is he here!?

"J-Jack! What do you want?" Lilith questioned as she broke out in a sweat.

"Life has been pretty boring since I murdered those super soldiers, ya know," Jack responded as he suddenly took one of his durability negators from his coat. "I thought of a way to spice things up."

"You damned bastard!" Nathan angrily yelled before tossing cluster grenades at Jack. Like everyone else in this strange occurrence, Jack disregarded Nathan and his attacks, and the cluster grenades disappeared instead of exploding. "W-What!?"

"D-Don't do this! Neither Nathan...nor the developer...will like this..." Lilith muttered in fear, to which Jack smirked in response. Utilizing his extreme speed, Jack immediately appeared in front of Lilith's face.

"I know. I want to see the look on their faces when they find out what I did to you!" Jack coldly responded. "I want to see how much Nathan would blame himself for leaving you alone!"

"Wai--" Lilith was unable to get any pleading in as Jack drove the knife into her gut.

"STOP IT BASTARD!!!" Nathan angrily yelled as he immediately grabbed Jack's arm. To his surprise, Nathan was able to feel the sensation of Jack's body but was still disregarded by him. "GET AWAY FROM HER, DAMMIT!!!"

Red liquid poured from Lilith's mouth as internal bleeding quickly took place. Like the sadistic monster he is, this sparked an excited grin on Jack's face.

"Yes! Let me see more!" Jack yelled as he violently began slashing Lilith. Nathan didn't release his grasp but was tossed around like a ragdoll as Jack rapidly moved his arm.

"AAAHHHHHHH!!!" Lilith released a gut-wrenching scream.

Blood spewing painted the walls as Lilith was getting dismembered. Jack's rapid hand swings finally proved too much for Nathan, as his grip slipped and he was tossed into the wall.

"Urgh...n-no...p...please..." Nathan desperately muttered as he was forced to spectate Lilith's murder. Jack treated her body like a pumpkin on Halloween as he brutally carved into it and dismembered her limbs.

The ear-piercing screams that Nathan was forced to listen to, along with the sight of the stabbing and dismembering were finally put to a stop, as Jack instantly beheaded her. Being proud of his work, Jack delightedly observed her bloody corpse, which was stained everywhere.

"Heh, I hope Nathan enjoys the little present," Jack stated before casually leaving. Nathan had no words as he stared at Lilith's body in despair.

This isn't...real...there's no way they'd ignore me...if it was real. Nathan thought as he let out an inaudible sobbing. B-But w...why...why did I...need to see...my Lilith...in this...way? I...I can't...take this...anymore.

Good on Nathan for realizing this wasn't real, but everything he saw and all the sensations he felt was very authentic for him. It was akin to a mixture of horrible memories and memories that never existed.

There was more to come for Nathan as the setting immediately morphed into an outdoor picnic. With him were Lilith, his mom, and his dad.

"H-Huh?" The teary-eyed and broken Nathan uttered as he looked around again at his new surroundings. "W-Where...am I...now?"

"It seems that Nathan's running late," Tomas stated. "Today was supposed to be the family gathering too..."

"Fufu, Nathan's a busy man, you know," Lilith responded. "He does his best to take care of me!"

"I'm glad he's a good husband to you," Anna, Nathan's mother, responded with a smile. "But he should get good at coming on time."

Both Tomas and Lilith chuckled in response.

What is this now? M-My parents...and Lilith together? Nathan internally questioned as he listened to them converse. They're waiting for me...at a picnic?

"So, how's everything going at the restaurant?" Anna questioned. "I know you've just opened it, but I'm interested!"

"Well, it isn't going too badly! I'm getting a good bit of customers," Lilith responded. "I guess the food is pretty good, hehe!"

"I'm sure it is! Nathan's always talking about your food! He says things like, 'It's the best thing I've ever tasted!'" Tomas remarked. "I wonder when we're going to get a try of your meals, hmm?"

"Hehe, don't worry! It's a good thing I packed some food I prepared for the picnic," Lilith responded as she shyly scratched her head. "I'll make a lot more for you guys. I am a part of the family, after all."

"Yes, you are, dear," Anna responded. "I'm glad you are, my daughter."

As Nathan watched, more tears streamed down his face.

W-What...is this...mockery...? Nathan pondered as he covered his crying face. I just...wanted...my family...to welcome Lilith, and we could all...smile together. But none...of that...came true.

Amid his breakdown, Nathan suddenly materialized a combat knife.

"H-Huh?" Nathan uttered as he gazed at the knife with confusion. "Why did I take this out--"

"Nathan? Is that you?" Nathan's presence was finally registered as the trio gazed at him, and Lilith asked. "When did you get here...and why do you have a knife?"

"You guys can see--" Nathan didn't finish his sentence as he lunged at his father. "What!?"

"What are you doing, Nathan!?" Anna questioned as they were startled by Nathan's action.

"I-I don't know!" Nathan responded. W-What's going on with my body--

"AAAHHHHHHHH!!!" The screams of his bewildered father resonated within the area as Nathan drove the knife into his chest. Everyone, including Nathan, observed a look of panic in response to this.

SHIT! WHEN DID I DO THIS!? Nathan internally questioned as he began to panic. MY BODY...IS NOT LISTENING!

Nathan's body truly never listened as he repeatedly stabbed his father in a frenzy.

"STOP IT, NATHAN!" Lilith pleaded as she and Anna desperately tried to pull Nathan off his profusely bleeding father. Their efforts were futile due to the massive strength gap between them as normal humans and Nathan as a blessed human.

He never stopped stabbing his father until the life left his eyes.

"T-Tomas? O-Oh god...please, no!" Anna muttered in despair as she witnessed the bloody mess that once was her husband. Like a fountain, tears immediately rushed down her eyes as she rushed to his body. "TOMAS, NOOO!!!"

Nathan gazed at what he had done with pure shock.

I-I just...killed my own...father...and I couldn't...have done anything about it. With trauma-filled eyes, Nathan pondered. I-I can't...I can't take anymore...

"W-Why...why did you do this...Nathan!?" Lilith questioned with fear as she grabbed the balling Anna and backed away.

"...me."

"W-What?" Lilith questioned.

"P...Please...kill me--"

Nathan instantly appeared behind his crying mother and stabbed her through the throat.

NO! NO, NO, NO!!! Nathan internally pleaded as he tore out the side of her neck with the knife, ceasing both Anna's crying and her living.

"AAAHHHHHH!!!!" Fearing for her life, Lilith screamed at the top of her lungs.

"P-Please...run away...from me!" Nathan begged as he uncontrollably strolled towards Lilith. "Please...I don't want...to...hurt you!"

"Get away from me!" Lilith demanded as she desperately ran away. Although that was what Nathan hoped for, Lilith's harsh demand slightly hurt him. He'd never want Lilith to tell him to stay away from her.

Well, her attempted escape was futile as Nathan immediately caught up, grabbed her by the hair, and dragged her to the ground. Like an executioner, Nathan slowly brought the bloody knife to Lilith's neck as he held her hair.

"W-Why...are you doing this...Nathan?" Lilith muttered as tears came down her eyes. "I...I loved you...we all did!"

P-Please! Stop! Nathan begged as the knife drew blood from her throat. His arm trembled immensely as Nathan tried his best to regain control of his body. Just let this hell end, please!!!

"STTTOOOOPPP!!!!"

Meanwhile, the perpetrator of Nathan's continued suffering found immense joy at the effects. Ada watched with delight as Nathan gazed into the sky with a broken expression. With tears streaming down Nathan's face, he was also softly sobbing.

"Aww, poor Nathan. I wonder how many horrific deaths of your dear parents and Lilith did you have to witness tens of thousands of times?" Ada questioned. "And all in a minute, real-time. With all that you've experienced thus far, I'm sure your brain is mush right now."

Like a mother to her child, Ada pulled Nathan's head close to her bosom in response to his visible pain. Surprisingly unbothered by this, Nathan's tears had dampened Ada's designer suit.

"Dear, dear...It'll all be okay, Nathan. Although you brought this on yourself for insulting and disrespecting someone as great as I, it pains me to see a fellow game character in this state," Ada remarked as she pulled a handgun from under her furred coat. Nathan, currently in something akin to a vegetable state, did nothing in response. "I will end the intense suffering you've gone through today."

Intending to cement her plan for revenge, Ada calmly placed the barrel of the gun in Nathan's right ear.

"From the bottom of my heart, I'm glad you have experienced unimaginable suffering," Ada said with a genuine smile. "And I'm glad those will be your last thoughts, Nathan."

BANG!
