Ch. 23 - Zack's Growth? (Part 2)

After being snuck, the Silverdust brothers and their men stood at a standstill with the Blueblood Corps trio. The armor-wearing and firearm-brandishing gang members were unsure whether to continue firing at Rose or aid their bosses in getting back at Zack and Octavius for suddenly kicking them.

Rose, visibly flustered and distracted by Zack's sudden and unintentional compliment, quickly re-composed herself and returned her gaze to the gang members.

"...Like I said, you guys will change your opinions after my friends kill your boss," Rose repeated. "But attacking me now won't be effective--"

"Damn it! What the hell are you bastards doing!?" Interrupting Rose's monologue, Noah yelled. He garnered the attention of everyone in the vicinity. "Stop standing there and attack her--"

Like a predator realizing its prey, Octavius took advantage of Noah's rage-filled rant and darted at him. Octavius secreted viscous slime around his arms as he ran. Noah and his brother realized this too late, as Octavius executed a right hook to Noah's jaw and knocked him away.

"Ugh!" Noah grunted as Octavius chased him down.

"Bastard..." William muttered as he outstretched his right hand, attempting to intercept Octavius by manifesting silver dust.

Keeping true to his desire for usefulness, Zack interrupted William by tossing a glass mug at his face. Witnessing the projectile in his peripheral vision, William canceled his intent to attack Octavius and reflexively lifted his hands to his face.

Of course, the mug shattered into glass shards and quickly dispersed everywhere.

Tsk isn't that my glass mug!? William thought. He must have stolen it from my mansion when they flanked us. Going into someone's home...their disrespect knows no bounds.

Zack used the glass projectile as an opportunity to close the distance as he rushed at William. He immediately produced a sonic boom as he charged at his opponent.

William wasn't daunted as he responded by manifesting a mound of dust, taking the shape of a silver knife. He swung the bladed instrument, but Zack anticipated this and hopped over William.

"Huh?" William uttered as he shifted his gaze upwards. Zack simultaneously took what seemed to be a frag grenade from the pockets of his overalls and tossed it at William. His eyes widened with bewilderment as the grenade gleamed with an orange light. William quickly reacted by covering the grenade with silver dust, but it failed to prevent what was inevitable.

BOOM!

The grenade expanded into an explosion, destroying the dust that William covered it with and knocking him into a forest tree.

"Tch...I'm pretty sure the pin was still on that grenade," William muttered. "Your face is familiar too. You're the S-Class criminal, Zack Isaac, huh?"

"Damn, am I that famous...?" Zack responded. Damn it, the grenade didn't do as much damage as I thought, and now he realized my identity. "I-I guess I am that guy."

"You're probably the one who caused that car bomb explosion, with your blessing," William deduced as he manifested silver dust in the palm of his hand. It quickly morphed into a long-barreled handgun. "I'll kill you first."

BANG!

Ceasing the conversation, William suddenly fired at Zack. The bullet's trajectory was aimed at Zack's face and would have hit if Zack never tilted his head at the last second. Although he prevented a direct hit, the bullet grazed the left side of Zack's face and caused it to bleed.

"Ugh!" Zack grunted. William never let up and continued firing at Zack, who defended himself by quickly hopping around. Each time he fired the silver gun, Damn it! Why are they so fast!?

"You must be stupid if you thought it would be a piece of cake for you to avoid them," William mocked. "The silver bullets are faster, stronger, and have far stronger piercing than firearms! You're not the only one with a blessing!"

Meanwhile, Octavius engaged in battle with the second brother, Noah Silverdust. Their battle contrasted Zack and William's, as they were fighting at quite a rapid pace.

Providing quick mobility, Noah surfed on pure silver dust underneath his feet as he charged at his opponent. Octavius didn't back down and also moved toward Noah. Using a small portion of the dust he was surfing on, Noah crafted it into a shining silver sword.

Squishy sounds were audible as Noah swung the sword and Octavius blocked it with his slime-covered arms.

Huh? That was a weird response. It's like glue or something. Noah thought. My sword didn't cut through... The soft, squishy sensation of the slime would deceive any attacker like it did against Noah.

"You guys have no other blessed humans on your side," Octavius remarked as he continued to defend against Octavius's slashes. He continued surfing around Octavius and threw out more sword slashes. "Your gang is pretty weak. You two should die so your members get absorbed into ours."

"Shut up! Whose fault is it that we have no blessed humans in our gang!? If you'd open your eyes, you'd realize your damn boss took any opportunity of us acquiring strong allies when he forced us to work under him!" Noah retorted as he increased the intensity of his sword swings on Octavius, even causing him to stagger slightly. "Why take your talents to a lesser organization!?"

Ugh, these silver weapons are a pain in the ass. Octavius pondered as Noah's slashes began cutting through his slime-coated body. Not only is the sword quite sharp, but he's putting a lot of force behind those swings...It's a bad match-up for my slime--

"You don't have to worry, though! When we murder you bastards, the hierarchy will be shifted!" Noah yelled as the blade of his sword suddenly returned to its dust form and scattered in all directions.

"Urgh!" Octavius grunted as the dust rushed onto his body, delivering visible cuts as they sliced through the slime coating. As if going through a cactus field, Octavius revealed the cuts on his body to everyone as he escaped the dust by hopping out.

"Die!" Noah yelled as he swung at Octavius's throat. His finishing attempt failed, as Octavius suddenly fired slime at the hand holding the sword. As if it were the webs of a spider, the slime Octavius fired had enough force to push Noah's hand onto his face. This resulted in the slime covering Noah's hand and mouth and sticking like an adhesive substance.

Noah's eyes widened with shock upon realizing this occurrence. Despite his struggling, he couldn't remove his hand which was stuck in an awkward position.

Seeing that his opponent was disarmed of their weapon, Octavius immediately executed several punches on his body.

"RRAAAHHH!!!" Noah yelled as a burst of sliver dust came from his mouth and through the slime covering it, visibly shocking Octavius. Acting quickly, Octavius quickly hopped away to avoid any more lacerations.

"Tsk, you're a bit better than I thought," Octavius remarked. "You're quite adept with your blessing."

The silver dust Noah breathed out had caused most of the slime on his mouth to be destroyed, thus allowing him to move his arm again. He also angrily removed the remaining bits of slime on his face.

Strangely, Octavius began strolling towards several burning warehouses caused by the car bomb. Noah observed with slight confusion as he stopped by the burning building.

"Although I think I could beat you with my regular slime, I'll admit it'll be a tedious task, due to the nature of your blessing," Octavius admitted. "So I'll just get serious!"

Without hesitation, Octavius stuck his slime-coated hand into the flaring flames. Before Noah's bewildered eyes, the slime covering Octavius's body rapidly changed from a chartreuse green to a crimson red. It was as if the slime confused the raging flames and morphed into lava around his body.

"Now, this won't take long," Octavius remarked. "You're going to die."
