Ch. 38 - Celebration and Comfort

Not everyone suffered great humiliation and suffering after today's events. The victors celebrated the painful defeat they handed their enemies.

"Good job, guys! We did well!” As she celebrated with her closest subordinates, Ada commended them. In a gesture for their victory, Ada popped open a luxurious and expensive champagne bottle and poured it into a wine glass.

“No, miss. It’s your great intellect that brought such an overwhelming victory. I never understood the methods you took. I thought it would be better to find and kill them all, but that would be more difficult and less fulfilling,” Charlotte responded. “From collaborating with the United Kingdom which resulted in the death of Jack Knight, to making use of nobodies like Serena Collins and John Walker to punish Nathan properly, you thought of everything.”

“Fufu, I’m not the leader for nothing. I love it when you guys praise me so,” Ada replied as she delightedly sipped her glass of champagne. “Now that Nathan and his friends received their just desserts, I can focus on making my country greater than before.”

“That’s lovely, miss, but those S-Class criminals haven’t been massacred,” Leon chimed in. “They may be crippled heavily, but they may pose a threat to society in the future, especially the battle-crazed killer.”

“Don’t worry, We’ll kill them all someday,” Ada assured. “I just couldn’t pass up on forcing Nathan to live as a vegetable.”

“Heh, when that day comes, I want to kill Olivia Gray,” Frank said. “Not only did that bitch get you incarcerated, miss, she also got me shot by Leon. I still haven’t forgotten.”

“No comment on that. But I’ll be killing Zack,” Leon added. “We can leave the meathead, Charles, to you, Charlotte.”

“Well, yes. He’s too strong for you guys,” Charlotte teased. “Not for me, though.”

“Wow, you’re so humble, sis,” Frank sarcastically remarked as he rolled his eyes.

“Hmm, while we’re speaking about killing those guys, a thought popped into my head,” Ada said. “Although I believe you could take on Charles, it wouldn’t hurt to have others do the dangerous stuff for you.”

“Oh? What’s on your mind?” Charlotte asked.

“How’s the Queen Deathbringer’s condition?” Ada inquired. “Were any of you guys made aware of her status?”

“Oh, I heard that the super soldier just woke up from her coma,” Nolan replied. “She’s in a stable condition and recovering nicely.”

“That’s good to hear!” Ada exclaimed. “That means I can meet with her to talk.”

“I see the gears of that lovely brain of yours are quickly turning now,” Leon stated. “I’m pretty curious. I’m sure we all are.”

“Fufu, it’s nothing major,” Ada replied. “I just thought that the Queen Deathbringer should know that her poor subordinate died…and how exactly he was killed.”

* * * *

There has never been a single waking moment when Ada Foster failed to act immediately after that calculating and narcissistic brain of hers began formulating a plot, especially concerning the developer and his dear game characters. This time was no different, as she wasted no time to meet the Queen Deathbringer after hosting her little celebration.

Just as Nolan had reported, the Queen Deathbringer had returned to consciousness, yet remained in the confines of her patient’s room. She donned standard azure-blue patient gowns, and her limbs, neck, and around her face were wrapped with white bandages.

As she sat on the hard patient’s bed, her cold and downtrodden expression exposed her apparent discomfort. There were several variables contributing to this, whether it was the deaths of two of her allies, or the injured state she was in, the exact cause was unknown. However, there wasn’t a shred of doubt that the S-Class criminals, especially the battle-crazed killer had contributed to her stress.

At the very least, her lonesomeness was temporarily paused, as her attention was garnered to the swinging open of the door. A slight surprise was visible as the Queen Deathbringer witnessed the president of the United States enter.

“Hello, Ms. Deathbringer,” Ada greeted with a charming smile. “I’m glad to see you’re awake.”

“President Ada?” The super soldier uttered with surprise. “To what do I owe this visit?”

“...Before we get into that, how are you feeling? I heard your injuries were rather extensive,” Ada said. “As one of this country’s strongest super soldiers and one who handles most of the dirty work, I’d hate to see you in an injured state.”

“...Well, my body’s feeling a lot better, I suppose,” The Queen Deathbringer stated. “I’ll be back in action soon, and I won’t lose to the battle-crazed killer again.”

“...Sigh, now I really don’t want to bring this up,” Ada strangely remarked as he facepalmed. “Not when you seem this motivated…”

“...Something bad happened while I was comatose, right?” The Queen Deathbringer questioned as she analyzed Ada’s expressions. “It’s fine…you can tell me, Miss President.”

“...The wretched S-Class criminals…it’s like the death of Jack, their most powerful ally…didn’t deter them. They planned and executed…an attack in California,” To provide authenticity to her words, Ada spoke in a saddened tone. “Numerous soldiers and super soldiers intervened…but there were…casualties.”

“...D-Don’t tell me,” The Queen Deathbringer muttered with slightly furrowed eyes.

“I-I’m so sorry, but Claw was unfortunately…killed in action by the battle-crazed killer,” Ada continued as she held her head down and lowered her already downtrodden tone. “He went out of his way to kill him…because he claimed…it would make you a better fighter…in the future.”

Despite the cold demeanor she maintained as a government-sanctioned assassin and super soldier, Queen Deathbringer was visibly taken aback by this revelation as her eyes widened and jaw dropped. Her last subordinate, with whom she built and maintained a bond over the years has been killed, and the perpetrator’s reason was because of his battle-lust thinking she’d be fueled by vengeance. Who wouldn’t be affected by this news?

“I…I see, so my last subordinate died…and I couldn’t save him,” The Queen Deathbringer remarked as she clenched her fists. “So…it’s just me…now.”

“...I’m sorry. I doubt this news…will do anything, but Claw had dealt a lasting blow on them, especially Nathan Hayes,” Ada said. “The S-Class criminals had to retreat due to the wounds they suffered. Though…I’m doubtful that they’d be out of commission for a long time.”

“...I see,”

Seeing the Queen Deathbringer’s visibly affected expression, a slight smirk was visible on Ada’s face. As always, the conversation was going the exact way she envisioned.

“Listen, I have no right to say this as I haven’t lost such close comrades. I’m just your president, I know that, but trust me when I say I do feel just as angry as you are right now,” Ada stated. “I value every one of you, just as I do with the civilians of our country. That’s why I’ve worked tirelessly with England to take down Jack, and this recent incident only sparked my desire to eliminate the rest of those sick criminals.”

“...You don’t need to worry, president,” As the Queen Deathbringer spoke, the cold expression rapidly returned to her face. “I…feel the same way. I can’t wait…for the day I confront Charles Warner again!”

“Fufu, and don’t you worry, because that day will come very soon. Rebecca has almost finished her modifications, so we will have great manpower,” Ada assured. “You will not be alone when you fight those monsters, and they will meet inevitable justice.”

“...Yes, you’re right.”

“Together, we’ll carry the ones who have fallen in our hearts, and we will avenge them,” Ada encouraged. “The death and destruction they have caused will not be forgotten…and I hope you’ll find peace when justice is brought to them, my soldier.”

“...Thank you, Miss President,” The Queen Deathbringer stated. “I never thought…I’d feel anything positive…after hearing that news, but for some reason…your voice provided me comfort.”

“Fufu, I get that a lot.”
