Ch. 31 - Ideal

While Amber and the squad were executing the mission of bringing the m, her friends, Ariel and Sariel, had been doing combat training in the Enlightenment Program's training grounds.

They were joined by other students, such as Ivory and Baran.

"Even though our instructors have gone to help with the mafia subjugation mission, I'm still surprised we got a free day just to train and relax," Sariel said.

"I'm glad they decided to take them down," Ariel said. "I hated seeing how the mafia attacked someone as nice as Amber."

"They've consistently proved themselves to be untrustworthy," Sariel added. "I wished we could have also helped Amber and Aiden with the mission."

"Yeah, Amber and Aiden begged for a chance to join the mission. I'm sure Amber wanted to defeat them personally...for the harm they caused to innocent civilians," Ariel speculated. "I've come to understand how nice my friend is. I hope she and Aiden will be okay,"

"Yeah, me too," Sariel agreed. Meanwhile, Baran looked at them with a scowl.

Tch...why the hell does everyone care about that weakling... Baran thought.

Returning to Amber, she and her instructor, Altius continued their trek through the pure, white passageway. Not wasting any time, they ran with enough speed to create a blur.

Their high rate of speed made it clear that they wanted to catch up to capture the main forces - the Dexter family.

"Tsk, how far did these guys even go!?" Altius angrily asked. "I'm getting annoyed by all this running!"

"We have to get them..." Amber said. "They have to pay for all the people they've harmed."

"...You get angry on other people's behalf, huh?" Altius assumed.

"I just hate seeing innocent people get their lives destroyed for no reason..." Amber explained. "People shouldn't trample on others' lives for their pleasure or benefit...that's what I think, at least."

"So that's why you begged to join this mission?" Altius questioned.

"Huh?"

"Well, as much as it's annoying to admit, this team might be one of the strongest teams created to execute a mission in a long while," Altius remarked. "We have Kreuger, who seems to be comparable to Jack the Ripper, the Queen Deathbringer who's regarded as one of the strongest super soldiers in existence, Trixie and I, who were instructors of the Enlightenment Program picked by the Queen of England...and Ryzen, who once won a fight against that same Queen, although he can be lazy and unpredictable."

"Yeah..."

"Even if you and Aiden never joined, it would have been unlikely for us to lose against the mafia...even though they are also powerful," Altius said. "It's just as I told you before...we should clean up our messes and not leave it to the next generation, but your ideals wouldn't let you accept that, huh?"

"I know the successful completion of this mission would happen if I begged to join or not, but I'm the cause of this mission in the first place. If I hadn't interrupted Theodore from extorting Dave, the mafia wouldn't have become irrational. But I couldn't just stand idly by," Amber admitted. "I want nothing more...than to help those in need. I'll save as much as I possibly can."

"...What a childish damn ideal, sigh," Altius said. Well, I can't say much. My reasons for becoming a soldier are sort of similar to hers.

Amid their conversation, Altius noticed they approached the end of the passageway. They arrived at what seemed to be a garage with parked cars. The vehicles were heavily tinted, obscuring anything potentially inside for the duo to see.

"What? An underground garage?" Amber questioned with a surprised expression.

"With a serious face, Altius stopped running and analyzed the surrounding area.

Did they escape in one of these vehicles, already? Altius thought. Suddenly, Altius's eyes widened with alertness as he turned to Amber. No! It's a trap!

From behind a parked sedan, Theodore suddenly hopped out and rushed to the side of the unsuspecting Amber. He prepared a powerful right hook for his opponent but was intercepted by Altius, who grabbed his arm.

"Tch!" Theodore uttered in annoyance.

"What!?" Amber also uttered upon noticing Theodore.

Altius proceeded to toss Theodore into a nearby car. The force of Theodore's body crashing into the vehicle caused a visible dent in the car.

"Damn it! Do you know how much money it will cost to fix that dent!" Theodore angrily questioned as he stood back up with very minor injuries.

"Shut the hell up, bastard!" Altius yelled with visible annoyance. "No one cares about your likely illegally acquired vehicle!"

"Tch, you just stopped me from getting my revenge on that bitch, Amber!" Theodore added.

"B-- Bi-- What!?" Amber uttered with visible shock. She was so appalled that she couldn't even repeat what Theodore called her.

"Anyways, I remember you. You stopped me from murdering Amber last time," Theodore said. "I'll make you pay for interrupting my fight, and for that dent!"

"What the hell do you think you'll accomplish against us by yourself!?" Altius snapped back. "You must be idiotic to--"

"Himself? No, my cousin isn't alone," Disembarking a vehicle was Luna.

"Oh? Two of the four main guys we gotta capture are here now?" Altius questioned with a pleasant surprise. "That makes things easier..."

"Will it be easier when other guys you than us are attempting to kill you?" Luna asked, and simultaneously, a large group of black-suited mafiosos hopped out of the tinted vehicles. They were equipped with weapons such as spiked bats, and knives and wore protective gear.

It looks like things won't be as easy... Amber thought as she analyzed her opponents.

"Sigh, you guys will have to make things more tedious than it already is?" Altius asked after audibly sighing.

"I knew a goody two shoes like you would chase us down, Amber," Theodore remarked. "So, before we leave, I prepared this all just to kill you."

Amber simply listened to him with disdain written on her face.

"Not escaping immediately will be your downfall, idiot!" Altius declared.

Suddenly, Luna took a phone from her jacket and casually dialed a number.

"Tch, what are you doing...?" Altius questioned.

"I'm sure you guys split up your forces in the different paths, so I'm letting Harvey and Amelia know to watch out if they haven't already left."

Amber and Altius didn't attempt to stop her from communicating but watched in displeasure. They knew attempting would result in them being attacked by Theodore and the gang.

"Hey, Harvey?" Luna greeted as Harvey picked up. "Just letting you know we might be preoccupied with some soldiers. You guys better watch out, too."

"You guys are preoccupied, too, huh?" Harvey asked as he and Amelia were standing in a white room. "It's too late for us to watch out. We're kinda preoccupied too."

Standing in front of them were Trixie and Aiden.

"Hey, why don't you guys hop off that boring ol' phone?" Trixie asked. "Wouldn't it be more fun to play with us, than being fixated on that device? I can show you guys much more tricks than a phone!"

I swear, this instructor does not behave like her age... Aiden thought.

"Don't worry, this won't take long," Amelia declared.

"Yeah, it won't," Harvey agreed with his sister. "Make sure you guys wrap it up quickly, too," He advised Luna.

"We will."
