Ch. 14 - London Mafia

The dormitory - a shelter accommodation by the Enlightenment Program for its students. Like most dormitories in universities, there are two buildings - one for the males and one for the females. To find one's room, a signpost located at the front of each dormitory building shows the room information.

In front of that signpost, Amber and Ariel were observing it.

Due to the low amount of students, it was not hard for the duo to find their rooms. They, however, noticed something pleasantly surprising.

"Look at that, Amber! Room 105!" Ariel said. "It looks like we're sharing rooms!"

She was right; the duo's names were allocated to 'Room 105.'

"Oh! That's great!" Amber said as she shared Ariel's excitement. If I'm sharing rooms, then I won't be alone then...alone to my thoughts and trauma...

"Let's check it out, why don't we!" Ariel suggested.

"Sure!"

With heightened excitement, they journeyed to their shared dorm room. Upon reaching the dormitory, they noticed that the first room was 100, so naturally, it would have been the sixth room down the hallway.

"Here it is! Room 105!" Ariel said. Beside the door was a red holographic handprint scanner. "I suppose using a scanner would be more secure and efficient."

How did they configure my fingerprint so fast? Amber thought. The chief of defense...works fast, huh?

Ariel placed her hand on the scanner, which immediately changed to blue, signaling its acceptance of her handprint. She then pushed the door open.

They were greeted at the sight of a Victorian-styled room and furniture, larger than a normal dorm room. It was likely larger due to having more furniture, such as two beds on opposite sides of the room, two closets, and two doors leading to bathrooms on each side.

Suddenly, Ariel ran up and hopped onto one of the beds.

"I'll take the right!" Like a kid calling dibs, Ariel stated while rolling around in the bed. Feeling content with Ariel's choice, Amber casually approached and sat on the left bed.

Amber took in the sight of the room's interior, observing the design and decorations, which caused her to frown slightly.

"I've been meaning to ask you," Amber suddenly said. "Where do you keep your pets?"

"Hmm, oh, you mean my animal friends?" Ariel said. "To prevent them from being restricted in a house, I let them play about in a nearby forest."

"A nearby forest? Don't you get worried that they may get lost or worse, hurt?"

"They're strong little guys. They'll be fine," Ariel assured. "And besides, there are other friends in that forest. I'll take you to meet them eventually!"

"I see. That would be nice," Amber stated.

"Well, I've worked up a sweat in the physical training," Ariel remarked as she stood up. "I think I'm gonna have a bath."

"Alright."

Just as she said, Ariel entered the bathroom nearest to her side. It only took Amber a few minutes of relaxing when she heard the pitter-patter of the bath shower. Now that Ariel was taking care of her hygiene, although for a short time, Amber was in the room by herself. She was alone to dwell on her thoughts.

"This room...the style reminds me of my old home," Amber muttered as she surveyed the room again. "So very similar..."

Much to her sorrow, Amber began reminiscing about wholesome moments with her family. Amber dreaded this - she knew if she kept solitary, even for a moment, she would start to crumble.

Amber took out her locket necklace, which she hid underneath her combat uniform. She opened the locket and looked at the pictures of her family.

As she looked, tears streamed down Amber's face without her immediate realization.

"We were spending time together...just a few days ago..." Amber said. Suddenly, she began to sob. Her silent sobbing began to intensify until she became a crying mess.

"Mom...Dad...Ben..." Amber muttered amid her crying. "Why...did you sob*...leave me...!?"

She spent so much time letting her sorrow out that Ariel finished her bath. She could hear Amber's cries after leaving the shower.

I see, so you do have a lot of trauma, Amber. Ariel said with a downtrodden expression as she kept behind the bathroom door, feeling like she would be intruding if she suddenly entered in on Amber's crying.

Meanwhile, in the streets of London, a trio of suited individuals were strolling along. The trio consisted of two males and a female, with one of the males walking in the middle and slightly ahead of the other two.

As they walked, they received the stares of several concerned civilians.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

"Are you sure we should just be walking out in public like this, Harvey?" The male on the right asked.

The man who spoke was the tallest of the three, seemingly well over six feet tall. Like the three, he wore a similar black suit with a white dress shirt and a black tie inside, but his jacket was an overcoat. He also wore a pair of black gloves. His black hair was styled in a slick back and glistening from seemingly hair gel. His lampshade-styled mustache also accentuated his features.

He had a large scar extending past his right eye.

"Yes, Theodore. All these heroes are busy with Jack the Ripper. They won't bother with us," Harvey, as referred to by the male, stated. Harvey was a relatively tall man, however not as tall as his 'brother.' His black suit was similar, except that he wore a double-breasted jacket. His black spiked hair was styled similarly to his brother's slick back, even with the glistening from the gel. "Besides, we're here on important business."

"Well, I hope this doesn't take too long," The woman said. Like the other two, she wore a standard black suit with the addition of a furred jacket. She had long jet-black hair and shaved at the side, giving an edgy feeling to her look. Her hair complimented her light skin complexion. "I want to stop by at a restaurant...I'm feeling hungry."

"You always choose the most expensive restaurants, Amelia," Theodore stated.

"Well, only the expensive ones can match my cuisine," Amelia responded.

AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

The trio's conversation was interrupted by the screaming of civilians nearby.

"What the hell was that?" Amelia asked with an annoyed expression.

"Looks like it didn't take that long," Harvey stated.

Inside of a convenience store was the source of the screams. Numerous civilians were cowering on the ground, and an individual marched in with a firearm.

"This is a damn robbery. If anyone moves, I'll freaking kill you!!!" The man carrying the firearm stated. Despite their visible fear, the customers were cooperative as they kept on the ground. Immediately, the robber approached the cashier.

"You know what you must do if you want to live!" The robber said to the visibly frightened cashier as he handed him a bag. With trembling hands, the cashier took the bag and placed cash into it.

Meanwhile, a customer who seemingly had a strike of bravery sneakily approached the robber. The other customers watched in fear for the brave man as he closed the distance with the robber.

Suddenly, the customer pounced on the robber and grabbed his gun, causing them to go into a struggle.

"You f*cki--" The robber uttered while they struggled. They both fell, but the customer succeeded in disarming the robber by throwing the gun away. His success was cut short, however, as the robber immediately stood back up, with flames surrounding his right hand.

"You thought you did something, huh, ya bastard!" The robber said to the now terrified customer. "I bet you thought I had no power...now you and everyone here will get roasted!!!"

"NO, PLEASE!!!" A customer uttered in panic. The robber ignored their pleas and placed his hand towards the brave individual. Right before he could roast him, the robber was suddenly thrown into the ceiling before falling onto the ground.

"AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" The robber uttered as he fell face first. Beside his body was Theodore, the person who threw him into the now-cracked ceiling. The civilians were left star-struck as they realized what had taken place.

"Bastard, get up!" Theodore demanded as he violently gripped the robber's collar to pick him up. Amelia also walked up simultaneously. Remorselessly, Theodore proceeded to strike him in the gut multiple times, causing him to spit blood. He then followed up by slamming the robber's head three times into the cashier's counter, causing it to crack.

The cashier also reflexively took multiple steps back.

"Ugh!...Who the fu--" The partially disoriented robber tried to ask a question but was interrupted by coughing up more blood. His head profusely bled as well. The star-struck expressions of the customers quickly turned to slight fear due to the sheer violence they witnessed.

"It doesn't seem like your robbery's going well, huh?" Amelia sarcastically asked as she approached him while Theodore gripped his hair. Casually entering the store was Harvey, who made comforting gestures to the civilians.

"It's okay...it'll all be okay," Harvey said to a cowering woman.

"It was his eyes that made him pursue someone else's wealth," Amelia said. "Can I cut them?"

"...Sure, but only one of them," Harvey responded.

"W...What--" Before the robber could finish speaking and realize, Amelia placed her index finger directly onto his right eyeball. Suddenly, a multitude of cut lines appeared in his eye. From those cuts, blood quickly spewed out.

"AAAHHHHHH!!!!!" The robber yelled as he reflexively clutched his eye. The trio coldly watched as he continued yelling and moving sporadically due to the pain.

"SHUT THE HELL UP, BASTARD!" Theodore angrily yelled as he delivered a powerful right hook to the robber's jaw, knocking him out cold.

"Well done..." Harvey said before turning to the fearful civilians. "I'm sure you all heard of Jack the Ripper's sightings in the country. Responsible for tens of thousands of murders, without a doubt, Jack Knight is the most dangerous criminal in this era. That does not mean that there aren't other dangerous people. Well, you guys would know," Harvey continued as he pointed at the robber.

"The state has forgotten about other criminals and put their focus on eliminating Jack. So, another group needs to make up where the state is lacking," Harvey remarked while taking a card from his pocket. It seemed to be a business card. "If you guys require protection, or you also want to take a stand against these blessed villains, we can help you," He said before tossing the business card to the floor.

Simultaneously, the trio began to leave the premises, with Theodore carrying the body of the unconscious body with him.

"You've sent the 'message,' right brother?" Amelia whispered.

"Of course," Harvey replied. Before they left, Harvey stopped at the doorway and turned to the less fearful civilians. "Think carefully about what I said...this is your future."

With that said, they left.

The scene cut to Chief Barry, who was working on his laptop in his office. Suddenly, an individual entered. He seemed to be Barry's assistant. The assistant had carried some files in his hand as well.

"What do you need, Steve?" Barry asked as he paused his typing.

"Sorry for the intrusion, but I'm here to report on the state of the crime rates, sir," Steve said. "There has been an increase in criminal activities, sir."

"Oh? That does make sense, considering the news of Jack. The criminals likely think that we'd narrow our search for Jack alone. They're not wrong, though..."

"It's just as you say, sir. Also, we have received reports of activity in the London Mafia," The assistant added.

"What?" Barry uttered. Steve responded by handing Barry the files he had.

"Remember these guys?" Steve asked. The files contained pictures of Theodore, Amelia, and Harvey at the top right-hand corner and various information about them. The pictures only showed their faces and a portion of their upper bodies, but it was obvious they took those pictures in decorated military combat uniforms. "It seems they've come back to bite us again..."

Hmm, the Dexter siblings. Why the hell would they start making movements now? Barry pondered.

DING!

Barry's laptop suddenly pinged as he received a message.

"Huh?" Barry said as he clicked the notification. Upon clicking it, he noticed that the message was sent anonymously. What is this now?

"What's wrong, sir?" Steve asked.

Barry was left bewildered by the subject of the message - Business Proposal.
