Ch. 45 - The Fated Encounter (Part 1)

Right after Chief Barry received the news of a sudden rampage by a potential 'high-level criminal,' the scene took a turn to Amber.

Along with her friends, Amber was patrolling a community on a different side of the country where Jack attacked.

"Hmm, I don't know if it's wise to do these patrolling missions when that demon is on the prowl," Amber muttered as she walked down the streets, keeping an observant watch of potential criminal activity. "I don't mind since god has given me the duty of delivering justice, but I think it's better to keep training...more than ever to tackle the worst demon, Jack."

I suppose I'm acting this way because that demon was mentioned so much recently. Amber thought as she held her locket necklace containing her family picture that was tucked in her combat suit. But I want to make him pay...for me and my family's suffering...

BEEP! BEEP!

Snapping Amber out of her thoughts, her phone emitted an ear-piercing noise. With haste, Amber checked the issue.

ALERT! CODE RED! MAJOR THREAT INBOUND!

"C-Code red!? We learned about this in lectures..." Amber said as she read the notification. "That means there is an attack! I can't waste any time!"

That simple notification was all Amber needed to act. Maybe it was due to the training she received as a soldier or the mission she received from her God after acquiring her blessing, but Amber immediately rushed forth.

* * *

Jack was surrounded by many victims of his treacherous deeds, and he simply marveled at the scene.

"Ha, these guys are much better when they're dead!" Jack insulted.

Simultaneously, the developer approached his 'game character.' Like Jack, the developer also wore a black mask.

"Good job on keeping true to your word, Jack!" The developer commended. "You started the mission today as you said, and you started it in a pretty flashy way."

"Yeah. Some of these buggers had blessings or whatever you call it," Jack said. "They were using some abnormal means of attacking me, but they died easily."

"Ah, yes. I'm sure you got stronger, considering the ones you killed are stronger than most," The developer assumed.

"That's right!" Jack confirmed. "Blessed humans, huh? I think I found a new favorite prey."

Becoming bored of standing around, Jack decided to sit on the body of a soldier he had slain.

"Now, I gotta wait for the military to come or whatever," Jack stated. "I wonder how long it will take for them to come."

"Oh! Looks like you won't have to wait for too long!" The developer said as they both shifted their heads in the same direction.

"Haha, yeah."

"Bye-bye! I won't be too far. I'll leave you to it!" The developer said before hopping away.

The sound of heavy rumbling was audible as numerous armored vehicles rapidly approached Jack. It was obvious they were law enforcement.

"Well, the buggers are finally here," Jack said. "I'm getting a deja vu feeling."

Forming a barricade, the vehicles parked at the scene. Without hesitation, a large number of soldiers disembarked their vehicles and confronted Jack with high-powered firearms.

"Well, hello there. Nice of you to show up!" Jack greeted.

The soldiers observed the area and immediately noticed their slain comrades, which brought anger upon them.

"You monster! Are you the cause of this!?" A soldier angrily questioned.

"Well, I'm the only one standing here and drenched in blood," Jack sarcastically answered. "So what do you think, mate?"

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"Tch, if you don't get on the ground and surrender, we will kill you!" Another declared.

"Haha! You buggers are coming at me with guns. You guys are regular soldiers," Jack deduced. Hehe, it seems they have no idea who I am, because of this mask. Good. "So, I'll keep playing until the stronger guys come."

"What are you--"

As if instantly materializing into the area, Ryzen suddenly appeared between Jack and the army of soldiers.

"Huh?" Jack uttered with a surprised tone, which was matched by the raised eyebrows of the soldiers.

"Wow, what a mess," Ryzen stated as he looked at the corpses. He then shifted his gaze upon the soldiers. "Looks like it would have been even worse if I had come later, huh."

"Who the hell are you, mate?" Jack asked. "Well, I guess you're not a regular guy, considering you just appeared outta nowhere."

"I could say the same about you. Managing to slay blessed soldiers isn't an easy feat, let alone many of them at once," Ryzen responded as he casually conversed with Jack, much to the annoyance of the soldiers.

That is Ryzen Cain, right? A soldier thought. Then why the hell isn't he doing anything!?

"So, why are you wearing a mask on your face?" Ryzen wondered. "Why not reveal your identity to us?"

"Maybe there will be a big surprise in revealing myself. I'm waiting for the right time, mate," Jack responded. That's good. They don't know who I am. This mask that the developer made, which obscures my entire physical features, works.

"Would you quit having a conversation with the enemy and aid us in capturing him!?" An impatient soldier yelled.

"Sigh, so impatient," Ryzen said as he shook his head.

"Nah, he's right. Since you all came here, it would be discourteous of me to not reward your hard work," Jack said as he reached into his heavily blood-stained coat. "So, I'll kill you all now!"

"Put your hands where we can see them!" A soldier said as they threatened to shoot their firearms. Like the menace he is, Jack ignored them and kept reaching into his coat.

Without any further warning, the soldiers began firing. As expected, however, the bullets were all deflected into nearby property and deceased soldiers.

"Yeah, that's what I expect from you guys," Ryzen commented. What a bunch of clowns.

"Heh, those are some fast bullets!" Jack mocked before instantly tossing a knife to fatally stab a soldier. Much to his surprise, however, the knife missed the target entirely.

"Huh? I missed?" Jack questioned. "But I never miss that normally..."

"Don't beat yourself up. My power is the reason that you missed," Ryzen revealed nonchalantly. "Otherwise, you would have killed the guy."

Upon hearing this, a sadistic grin formed on Jack. Of course, this wasn't visible to the soldiers due to the mask.

"Is that right, mate?" Jack asked as he dragged his left foot a few inches backward in preparation to run. "Then I'll have to kill you first, right!?"

"Heh, that would be the right idea," Ryzen said. Emitting a sonic boom after moving, Jack charged right toward Ryzen. With combat knives in both arms, Jack began swinging at Ryzen.

With skill and precision, Ryzen weaved all of Jack's slashes. It was evident that Jack was not taking him seriously, though, as he barely used much of his speed, much less the skills of his blessing.

"You're lasting this long, huh?" Jack said. "Haha, good for you--"

While Jack was fighting and conversing with Ryzen, bullets soared toward his head, but Jack leaned backward beforehand. Ryzen took advantage of Jack's split-second distraction and delivered a punch. Instead of getting struck in the chest, Jack reflexively put his right arm in the way and was hit on his forearm.

"Ha, that one certainly packed a punch," Jack said as he shook the arm. Tsk, those damn soldiers are in the way. They're nothing more than annoying buggers, but still annoying.

"Well, I do train a bit," Ryzen responded. He then glanced at his 'comrades.' These guys may think they're helping, but it's obvious this guy isn't giving his all yet. It'll be a hassle to protect them when he does, though.

Right before Jack re-engaged Ryzen, they both shifted their gaze in the same direction.

"Huh? Why are they just standing around all of a sudden?" A soldier questioned. The soldiers never knew what caught their attention, not until the object of interest got close.

At rapid speeds, Amber and her friends approached the scene.

"So, more prey is coming on the scene," Jack stated as he performed knife tricks.

Amber gazed upon the fallen soldiers, and extreme distraught clouded her expression. Ariel, who was riding on Shadow, noticed her expression.

"Amber, I know it hurts...but you can't dwell on your emotions now," Ariel said. "This one is strong. We have to be focused.

"Y-Yeah...you're right," Amber agreed in a strained voice. They all grouped up with their comrades to go up against Jack. Mr. Ryzen is here. Amber thought. With him, no one else should die. Hopefully.

It seems Amber showed up. Ryzen thought. This might become a favorable outcome after all.

Jack eerily pointed his knife at the group as if scanning the people present.

"There's quite a bit of you buggers, and some of you are blessed soldiers if I'm correct," Jack commented. "I bet you think this will be easy since you have all the numbers...but you couldn't be more wrong. I'll murder every single one of you--"

"Be quiet!" Amber yelled, much to everyone's surprise. "You won't be taking any more lives!"

"Hmm," Jack mumbled. "You look sorta familiar."

"H-Huh?"
