Ch. 16 - Stupid Incident

After receiving the troubling report of the train robbery, Ada took it upon herself to venture to the crash site. Of course, Ada was not alone, as she was with John Walker. First responders also worked in the area, as firefighters extinguished any accumulated flames throughout the locomotive, and law enforcement and doctors aided in retrieving the fallen soldiers.

They had hoped to locate survivors, but their efforts were futile; everyone had succumbed to their injuries in this disaster.

Ada and John observed coldly as first responders put soldiers and the burnt and dismembered bodies of the deceased super soldier duo in body bags.

"Tsk, what the hell happened here!? Did a goddamn missile struck the area!?" John exclaimed. "How could something like this even happen!?"

"You're not wrong about the missile assumption. It seems multiple bombs and explosions were the cause of this destruction," An investigating officer explained. "The potency of these explosions was likely immense if they were able to destroy the freight train, but even destroy the bodies and kill two super soldiers."

"Tsk, how pathetic. What the hell has the super soldiers become recently!" John exclaimed. "Nothing has been going my way...for god's sake!"

"...I'll be returning now," Ada stated as she turned around and began to walk away. "I'll leave the first responders to do their work."

"Huh? What the hell? Aren't you angry?" John questioned as he followed Ada. "Some bastards screwed with our goods!"

"What did you say? 'Some bastards?' Why are you acting like it's not obvious who it is?" Ada questioned as she continued walking. "You'd need at least missiles to damage super soldiers on the caliber of the two who died. But if it were missile or bomb strikes, the train would have been wrecked, so that's not the case. The other option is them being attacked by an enemy carrying powerful explosives."

"But there's no way super soldiers would let themselves get hit by someone throwing bombs," John remarked.

"Yes, so there are only two possible options. First, the enemy is a blessed user with powers that can aid them in hitting the super soldiers with the bombs," Ada assumed. "Or second, the enemy is a blessed user with an explosion-type blessing."

"Tch, the only two people I can think of who fit those criteria are Zack and that bastard Nathan."

"Yeah, it's a good chance it's Zack though. I would have assumed it was Nathan if there were spent ammunition...and other random objects he has stored in his inventory blessing laying around the crash site," Ada stated. "It's Zack. Hehe, to think that insect would dare try to go against me after I graciously gave his useless self a second chance at life. But it's fine still."

"Is it?"

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"I'm not interested in focusing my efforts on that insect, and I'm sure you feel the same way," Ada stated. "I couldn't care less about the people who died. Nathan's suffering is my biggest priority."

"Oh, good. I was worried I'd have to wait longer because of this stupid incident."

"Zack is friends with Nathan so if we're lucky, we can get rid of him, too," Ada stated. "But he's not a priority as I said. We can leave it up to the super soldier undergoing the Project Zero experiment...Rebecca, was it?"

"Yes, that woman will be my greatest product yet," John said. "There will be no one who could stop her when she's fully realized."

"We just need to retrieve her from England when she's done with her modifications," Ada remarked. "They can't keep my rightful property, after all."

While Rebecca was on their minds, she continued her biological modification in the United Kingdom. The setting moved to a laboratory in England. Individuals donning lengthy white coats occupied this futuristic-themed lab, indicating that they were scientists.

These scientists were experimenting and recording data on holographic screens; this lab was truly well-advanced. As proof of its technological advancement, a catatonic Rebecca was stored in a transparent vat, with blue liquid occupying the space and keeping her body in suspension.

Various tubes were attached directly to Rebecca's skin through the vat, allowing access to crimson red liquid to transfer into her body.

"Ah, it's coming along nicely. She passed the initial phase, which means her body has been stabilized," A scientist who observed Rebecca remarked. "She's not close to finishing, but her body has exceeded the capabilities of even the blessed slaughterer."

The chances of her getting past the first phase of absorbing the intense drugs were only five percent. The scientist pondered with a smirk. It seems she was born for this role!

"The codename 'blessed slaughterer,' was given to him, not because he was the first super soldier, but because he was the strongest and the biggest threat to blessed criminals," The scientist continued monologuing. "You will take the name for your own, Rebecca! You will return this country to the glory it once had!"

Nathan and Lilith relaxed together in the living room as the day closed. Like the rational individual he always was, Nathan ensured he watched the news for any updates.

"Good evening, my name is Ashley, bringing you the 7 pm news. Although the darkest time of Jack the Ripper is behind us, an unexpected tragedy occurred earlier today," Ashley, the reporter, stated. "A freight train carrying numerous canisters of super soldier drug serums has met in an unexpected crash. This had led to the deaths of all passengers in the locomotive, including the pilot, thirty soldiers, and even two super soldiers."

"What the hell? Super soldier serum?" Nathan questioned.

"Investigators have said the incident has resulted from the train tracks being obliterated by bombs, causing the locomotive's derailment. The super soldiers who attempted to defend themselves were too killed by explosions with powerful yields," Ashley continued. "Not only were the serums rendered unsalvageable, but some were stolen."

"Super soldier serums? Is Ada...trying to revive the super soldier army that was massacred?" Lilith wondered. "If that's the case...this may become bad in the long run."

"Yeah, but why do I have a bad feeling that Zack's the root of this incident after hearing explosions...?" Nathan questioned.

"Y-You think Zack's behind this?" Lilith questioned. "W-Well, the last time we saw him, he was pretty angry about Ada being part of the reason for Jack's death...but I don't think he'd be crazy enough to do that."

"...Other than us, the bastard developer's game characters are all crazy," Nathan remarked. "But I wouldn't worry if I were you. I could take out super soldiers myself at this point."

"Heh, me too actually!"

"Pfft, as if I'd let you fight!" Nathan teased.

"Aww."
