40-Power Stone
Carol sat in the driver's seat, rapidly pressing buttons. Even though I had learned to pilot a spaceship, I couldn't comprehend what she was doing; in my eyes, it seemed like random button presses. About a minute later, a video appeared in front of us.
The video showed a woman amidst destruction. She was crying and speaking desperately. Carol's concern deepened as she saw the woman crying and in distress.
In the background of the video, an incredibly large spaceship could be seen. The woman was speaking, but we couldn't understand her words due to the video's muted sound. Carol fixed the audio issue with a few button presses.
"Carol, if you're watching this video, you need to come to the Nova planet quickly! Ronan is here, trying to seize the power stone. Some are trying to stop Ronan, but I don't know how long they can hold," the woman said, and as she spoke, debris fell on her, concluding the video.
After watching the video, Carol remained silent for a few seconds. When I looked at her face, I saw a tear rolling down her cheek.
"How long does it take for us to reach the Nova planet?" I asked.
My question snapped Carol out of her shock.
"Under normal conditions, it takes us two weeks to reach the Nova planet," Carol said with a thoughtful expression.
Two weeks was too late; if we wanted to save those people, we had to be on the Nova planet within a few hours. After thinking about this, I stood still in astonishment.
*Why do I care about these people?* I asked myself.
In my past and present lives, I caused the death of many innocent people. Now, I was worried that innocent people were going to die; it was quite ironic.
*Is it just my imagination, or are my thoughts changing?* I pondered. In the past, if someone had told me that I would worry about innocent people, I would have cursed at them and mocked them.
I thought about what caused this change. In reality, when I first came to this universe, I struggled with whether to involve myself in wrongdoing. During this time, the system assigned me some tasks, and due to my greed, I completed them.
From movies in my past life, I knew that in this universe, villains always met their end in death. No matter how powerful I became, there would always be someone stronger in this universe.
"Hey, are you listening to me!?"
Carol's question snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked at her anxious face and said, "I apologize, I got lost in my thoughts."
"No problem, I'll use consecutive space jumps to arrive early at the Nova planet. Despite the strength of physics, I recommend you take a seat," Carol said.
I listened to her words, took a seat, and fastened my seatbelt. I didn't know the effects of consecutive space jumps, but it was better to be cautious.
Once Carol saw me seated, she pressed a few buttons and leaned back. As she leaned back, a countdown started. As the countdown decreased, I couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy.
"Three, two, one. Space jump initiated."
Upon this warning, the spaceship accelerated, swiftly traversing space as if teleporting. During this, I felt dizziness, and it intensified to the point that I soon began to feel nauseous and vomited.
When I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, I saw something surprising. My hand was growing, shrinking, and changing shapes. In astonishment, I raised my other hand and saw it also transforming.
As our journey continued, this issue started affecting all my limbs. Having already vomited twice, I could predict another bout of nausea soon.
After what felt like a torturous hour, the spaceship finally came to a stop. I had a weary expression on my face, having emptied the contents of my stomach.
Forcing myself to lift my head, I looked at Carol. Clearly, she was in the same condition, looking exhausted and staring at the floor. What surprised me was that she hadn't vomited throughout the journey.
*She must be experienced,* I thought, and reluctantly stood up by releasing my seatbelts. I walked to the front of the spaceship and looked at the planet before us.
Seeing the planet in front of me, I was greatly surprised. The spaceship was so massive that I could easily see it even from space.
"Damn it, I'll never miss this experience."
Carol cursed as she got up from her seat and walked towards me. When she saw the planet, a sense of urgency appeared on her face.
"I hope they've managed to keep Ronan busy enough," she said, quickly using the spaceship to descend us into the atmosphere.
As we entered the atmosphere, I noticed the extensive destruction on the planet. Approaching the surface, we saw hundreds of fighter jets flying in the air.
We descended swiftly, passing by the fighter jets, and landed on the ground. I could see Ronan and the guardians of the galaxy fighting.
I paid no attention to their fight and observed the devastation around me. Many buildings were destroyed, and I was certain that numerous innocent people had lost their lives. I even saw children crying, searching for their families.
Actually, these scenes were not unfamiliar to me; after all, I had witnessed similar scenes many times in my past life. The only difference between my past life and now was that I had the power to prevent it.
"The casualties are too high, stopping the fighter jets will take too long, we're too late," Carol said, wearing a defeated expression.
"I'll take care of the fighter jets; you attack the main ship," I said.
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"There are hundreds of fighter jets, Derek, it'll take too long to destroy them. Even if you do, what will you do about Ronan?" Carol asked, clearly not believing that I could accomplish this.
"Trust me and attack the main ship, leave Ronan to me."
As I said this, my body ignited, burning the clothes on me. I transformed into a fire giant under Carol's astonished gaze.
Before Carol could utter a word, I directed my hands towards the flying fighter jets. As I did this, the airborne fighter jets stopped in their tracks.
Seeing me do this, Carol suppressed her curiosity and turned, flying towards the main ship.
After Carol left, I focused all my attention on the flying fighter jets. I was already at my limit, and my head was throbbing.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH," I screamed and lowered my hands. Following this movement, the fighter jets lost control and crashed to the ground, exploding.
After doing this, I held my aching head. I had pushed my telekinetic powers to their limits, and it had put a considerable strain on me.
"I have things to do!"
I withdrew my hands from my head and moved towards the battle between Ronan and the guardians of the galaxy.
Before I could reach there, Ronan seized the power stone and attached it to his mace. Upon doing this, the mace in his hand sent shockwaves in all directions. The Guardians of the Galaxy were thrown backward as they flew.
Just as they were about to hit the ground, I raised my hand and prevented them from falling. Waving my hand, I moved them away from Ronan.
The team looked at me with astonishment and caution. Passing by them, I said, "Don't interfere in my battle," and drew my sword, placing my hand on my chest.
When Ronan saw that I was approaching him, he asked, "Who are you?" There was a significant smile on his face, and I could tell he felt confident after seizing the power stone.
I didn't answer him; instead, I swung my sword. A crescent-shaped flame energy blade shot rapidly towards Ronan.
Upon seeing this, Ronan smiled and slammed his mace on the ground. As he did this, the ground cracked, and a rapidly approaching purple energy came towards me.
I could clearly say that this purple energy was much different and more dangerous than the previous ones. When the purple energy touched my flame energy, it effortlessly destroyed it and continued towards me.
Realizing I couldn't escape this attack, I turned my body into ashes and flew into the air. While Ronan, in confusion, searched around for me, I reappeared behind him, swinging my sword.
Just as my sword was about to make contact with him, a purple barrier appeared around him, slowing down my sword. The deceleration in my sword was enough for Ronan to turn around and place his mace in front of my sword.
When my sword touched his mace, a purple explosion occurred, sending me flying backward.
"I don't know who you are, but by attacking me, you've signed your death warrant."
When I heard these words, I saw a mace coming towards my face. Quickly, I raised my sword to shield myself. When the mace struck my sword again, it propelled me about fifty meters, causing me to crash into a building.
The impact was so intense that my hands were trembling. I quickly got up, emerged from the wreckage of the building, and charged at Ronan.
As I approached Ronan, he swung his mace at me. Turning my body into a mist, I passed to his left and swung my sword.
Ronan's barrier reappeared, preventing my sword from cutting him. When my sword hit the barrier, cracks formed in it, causing Ronan to be thrown about ten meters.
Ronan planted his mace on the ground and stopped. He lifted his head and glared at me with anger. Getting up and running towards me, when he got close enough, he swung his mace again.
Seeing this move, I turned my body into ashes to evade his attack and circled behind him. When I was about to swing my sword on his back, he slammed his mace on the ground again, causing a massive purple explosion.
As the explosion touched me, I felt my skin cracking. The force of the explosion dragged me about two meters backward. When the explosion subsided, looking at my body, I saw that it was covered in purple cracks.
"No matter how powerful you are, in front of the power stone, you're nothing," Ronan said.
When I saw my body, I didn't feel fear or concern. Instead, I felt a surge of great greed within me.
"That stone will be mine!" I declared and charged at Ronan.
As I approached Ronan, I swung my sword, sending a flame energy towards him. Ronan used his mace as a shield to protect himself from the flame energy. Meanwhile, I swiftly turned my body into ashes, passing behind him.
With all my strength, I swung my sword towards his leg. My sword collided with Ronan's barrier, breaking it and severing his left leg.
"AAAGHHH! Damn insect!"
Ronan quickly turned around and swung his mace with full force. The power stone attached to the mace glowed as if reflecting Ronan's anger.
Ronan was very close, so it was impossible to evade this attack. The mace struck my left arm, propelling me so fast that I crashed into a building without realizing what had happened.
My vision was blurry, and my head was spinning. The force of the impact caused me to drop my sword, and my left arm was almost severed.
*If I want to kill him, I need to make him remove the power stone from the mace.*
Purple cracks covered every part of my body. The cracks on my left shoulder were so dense that someone looking at me from a distance might think my skin was purple.
As I lay on the ground, I focused on healing, but surprisingly, no matter how hard I tried, my left arm never healed.
All the purple cracks on my body slowly disappeared, but the ones on my left arm remained. I felt a bit panicked when I saw this. It was clear that the power stone was the cause.
As Ronan walked towards me, the purple cracks on my body disappeared.
"You have good regeneration, but the wounds opened by the power stone cannot be healed," he said, pressing his left foot on my chest.
What surprised me was that Ronan's leg had already healed. His healed leg had purple cracks all over it, just like my left shoulder.
*Did he use the energy of the power stone to heal himself? How did he do that?* I wondered to myself.
Seeing me silent, Ronan smiled and grabbed my left arm. Putting a bit more weight on his leg to prevent me from moving, he swiftly pulled my left arm.
My left arm, barely held by shreds of flesh, was torn off by Ronan's pull. I thought I would feel pain when my arm was severed, but I felt nothing. This was probably because the power stone had killed all my cells.
After tearing off my arm, Ronan, under my astonished gaze, removed the power stone from his mace and held it in his hand. I could see that the energy from the power stone shattered Ronan's glove.
"Let's see how you'll heal this," he said and pressed the power stone onto the wound on my left shoulder.
"AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"
The energy from the power stone tore through and burned my already severed shoulder. The purple cracks on my left shoulder grew, spreading towards other parts of my body.
If this continues, I understood that it would inflict severe damage on me, so I raised my right hand and opened my palm.
"You should never have removed the power stone," I said with difficulty. Ronan, realizing that something had gone wrong, turned around, but it was too late.
My sword flew, piercing Ronan's back and coming out through his chest.
"AGHHH!" Ronan groaned in pain, coughing up blood and dropping the power stone from his hand.
Seeing this, I smiled and kicked Ronan, throwing him off me. Ronan, in pain, clutched his chest as I leaned on my sword, forcing myself to stand.
Ronan was crawling away from me.
"You're quite docile without the power stone," I said, slowly walking towards him. As I walked, my sword scraped against the ground, creating sparks and producing an unsettling sound.
"If you... kill me, the Kree Empire... won't let you... go!" Ronan struggled to speak. It was evident from his voice that the fear of death had horrified him.
I approached him, using my foot to make him lie on his back. Placing my left foot on his chest, I made him groan in pain.
Heat emanated incredibly from my foot, starting to burn Ronan's chest.
"Stop... I beg you," Ronan pleaded forcibly. His voice was very faint and difficult to hear.
Ignoring his words, I applied a bit more force with my foot. My foot, radiating an incredible amount of heat, broke Ronan's already weakened ribs and crushed his heart.
After killing Ronan, I stood there quietly, savoring the warmth flowing within me.
When I heard footsteps behind me, I raised my hand. Upon turning around, I saw a green-skinned girl holding a round silver sphere.
A purple glow emanated from the silver sphere, and I could tell that it contained the Power Stone.
"What do you think you're doing?" I asked.
Before the girl could respond, three more people emerged from the wreckage behind her.
"Let him go!" Peter shouted, pointing a weapon at me.
Ignoring Peter, I walked toward Gamora. When I reached her, I took the silver sphere from her hand.
"This stone belongs to Thanos!" Gamora said angrily.
"Tell Thanos to go to hell," I replied and proceeded toward the main ship to help Carol.
As I let go of Gamora, she fell to the ground and glared at my back. Drawing the knife from her waist, she was about to attack me when Peter grabbed her wrist, shaking his head as if telling her not to.
Seeing this, Gamora abandoned the idea of attacking me and sheathed the knife back at her waist.
"Good choice," I said, continuing toward Carol with my back turned and transforming my body into mist.
