Miles Morales(pov)
I met Gwen at my new school. At first, I thought changing schools would affect me negatively, but fortunately, Gwen was in the same class as me.
My dad was a policeman, and he was friends with Gwen's dad. My mom worked as a nurse at a hospital.
Life had been relatively easy for me since childhood. The only challenge in my life was my dad being very disciplined, which was understandable since he was a policeman.
Today was Gwen's birthday, and she had invited me to her celebration. I hadn't seen Gwen's brother since we became friends, but whenever I asked Gwen, she said, "My brother is kind-hearted and very sweet."
I met Gwen's dad, and it turned out our dads were friends. Mr. George was very kind and just as disciplined as my dad.
We went to their house, and we helped with the preparations, which took only half an hour.
It was already dark outside, and we were waiting for Gwen's brother. Time passed quickly, and Mr. George started getting impatient because Gwen's brother hadn't arrived yet.
Gwen had a frown on her face, something I had never seen before. In this tense atmosphere, I remained silent and prayed for Gwen's brother to arrive early.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
My prayers were answered, and just ten minutes later, the doorbell rang. I said, "I'll get it!" and walked to the door. Normally, I wouldn't do this, but the tense atmosphere made my body tingle, and I needed to move to dispel that numbness.
I opened the door, and the man behind it stared at me expressionlessly. The man was bald, with a pale brown skin tone. His eyes were black, and there was a scar above his left eye. He wore a black short-sleeved shirt and a silver necklace. His arms had red chain tattoos. There was a black mask tattoo on his left hand and a black bracelet on his left wrist.
When I looked at the man, the only thing I could say was that he was a gang member. The man took a step toward me and continued to look at me with the same expressionless face.
After the man took a step toward me, I instinctively took a step back. He raised his hand and put it on my shoulder. When he placed his hand on my shoulder, his expression quickly changed, turning into a smile, followed by laughter. "HAHAHAH, buddy, you should've seen the look on your face," the man said.
While the man was laughing, I also saw Gwen, who had been watching us from behind, burst into laughter. "Derek, this was great," she said, wiping tears from her eyes.
Seeing my embarrassed expression, the man stopped laughing and extended his left hand to me. "I'm Derek Stacy, nice to meet you," he said.
I shook the man's hand with a smile and said, "Miles Morales." The man nodded and turned to Gwen, asking, "When do we start?" Gwen replied, "Right now," and together we headed to the table where Mr. George was waiting for us.
After sitting at the table, we cut a cake and started chatting. From the conversation, I learned that Derek had quit school and was working as a waiter.
After eating the cake, Derek gave Gwen a gift box. Gwen looked at the phone inside and hesitated, saying, "This looks expensive, Derek, I don't want to pressure you."
Upon hearing this, Derek patted Gwen's head and said, "Don't worry, I got a new job, and the salary is quite high."
Surprised, Mr. George asked, "A new job? Where?"
"In a big restaurant in the West. An old friend of mine works there, and he got me the job using his position," Derek replied.
Although Mr. George was initially suspicious, he eventually accepted it. It was Mr. George's turn to give Gwen a gift, and he gave her a silver bracelet.
When it was my turn to give a gift, I gave Gwen a necklace. Time flew by, and it was time for me to go home.
After saying goodbye to the family, I walked back home. Unbeknownst to me, an electronic spider climbed up my leg and quickly made its way to my left arm.
When it reached my left hand, it bit me. I swatted the spider to kill it and didn't pay much attention to the bite. It was just a normal spider, what could possibly go wrong, right?
