18-Translucent

18-Translucent

After dealing with the phone for about half an hour, there was a knock at the door. I got out of bed, left the room, and opened the door.

Gwen was standing in front of the door, looking quite tired. She entered and, without saying anything, threw herself onto her bed and fell asleep.

I didn't understand why she was so exhausted, but to be honest, I didn't really care. I put a blanket over Gwen and returned to my room.

Taking paper and a pen from my room, I wrote a note. The note was for my dad and Gwen. Initially, I was going to tell Gwen directly instead of writing a note, but seeing her in a sleepy state made me not want to wake her up.

In the note, I wrote that I was going on a business trip with the restaurant manager and might not be home for a few days.

After placing the note on the kitchen table, I left the house and entered a dark alley.

I opened the system window and approved to change dimensions. My body quickly turned into dust.

When I came to, I was in another alley. I looked around in surprise. I should be in a forest right now.

While I was pondering all this, a system notification appeared in front of me.

At the same time as the mission notification, a red mist appeared, indicating the location of my target. As I understood, every new hunt was directing me to the vicinity of the prey.

Without thinking much about it, I followed the red mist. The appearance and technology of this world were the same as Marvel's.

As I moved towards my target, I saw a few news items, and the names of the cities were the same. The only difference between this universe and Marvel was the absence of superheroes.

I followed the red mist for about twenty minutes, which led me to an abandoned restaurant.

Quietly, I approached the restaurant and went inside. I heard very faint footsteps from inside. Normal people wouldn't hear this, but my ears were much more powerful than normal people's.

I cautiously moved towards the sound. The red mist didn't show the exact location of my prey; it only indicated the general area where they were. So, my prey was inside this building, but I didn't know exactly where.

Continuing silently, I reached the restaurant's kitchen. As I turned the corner from the kitchen and advanced, a fist came towards my face.

When I saw this fist, my reflexes kicked in automatically. I caught the fist in mid-air and delivered a punch to the man's ribcage.

The man, who was the same height as me, had medium-length black hair, a medium-sized beard and mustache, black eyes, and a mocking look on his face.

As I examined the man, another man from the adjacent room aimed a gun at me.

"Back off!" he yelled.

The shouting man was slightly shorter than me. His hair was short and brown, his eyes were brown, and he had a somewhat dazed look on his face.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

"If you shoot that gun, I'll kill you," I said.

I needed to gather some information about this world, and these guys might be able to help. Moreover, judging by their style, they were probably involved in some illegal activities, so we could get along.

"Oh, really? How are you going to do that?" the man asked, laughing.

I didn't answer this question and just looked into the man's eyes. Just as the man was about to pull the trigger, the guy who had gotten up from the ground stopped him.

"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" the man who got up from the ground asked. He still had a somewhat mocking expression on his face.

"My name is Derek Stacy, and I came here to kill someone."

I decided to be honest with them. When they heard my words, they seemed a bit uneasy.

"Who?" the same man asked.

"Translucent," I replied.

Upon hearing this, the man's smile grew even wider, and he signaled to his friend to lower the gun.

"My name is Butcher, and this is my friend, Frenchy. It seems our goals are the same. I think we can cooperate," he said.

When I heard Butcher's words, I nodded and said, "Works for me."

Butcher indicated for me to follow him to the restaurant's storage room.

There was one more person in the storage room. He was clearly young and seemed anxious. He had medium-length brown hair and brown eyes. When I looked at him, all I could say was that he was an ordinary young man.

"This is Hughie, he's one of us," Butcher said.

When Hughie saw me, he asked, "Who's this?"

"The new member of the team," Frenchy replied.

We all sat down at a table and began to chat. From the conversation, I learned that in this world, there was a company called Vought that made a tremendous amount of money using superheroes. Vought had seven major superheroes, and the most powerful and the leader of the team was called Homelander.

As far as I could tell, his powers were very similar to Superman's. After about half an hour of conversation, I got up from the table and looked at Butcher.

"Where's Translucent?" I asked.

Upon hearing my question, Butcher smiled and said, "Calm down, we've trapped him, but we can't pierce his skin. We can't kill him until we figure out how to solve this problem."

When I heard his words, a smile crossed my face as well.

"Don't worry, I have my ways," I said.

Butcher clearly didn't believe me, but after a prolonged stare-down, he gave in, got up from the table, and walked toward a door.

"Show yourself," Butcher said.

As soon as Butcher said this, a man sitting in the cage appeared. The man was about my height, had short black hair, green eyes, and very pale skin, and most importantly, he was naked!

Apparently, this man's ability was to become invisible, and from the fact that he was naked, I understood that he could only do this when he was not wearing clothes.

"His skin is made of carbon fiber, so we can't kill him," Hughie said.

*So, that's why they locked him up here.*

After inspecting the room for a while, I turned to Butcher and said, "Go out and close the door." Butcher looked at me, thinking I was joking, but he understood from my facial expression that I wasn't joking.

He nodded and left the room, closing and locking the door.

"Why do you trust him so much?" Frenchy asked.

This question was not only on Frenchy's mind but also on Hughie's. After all, they had worked hard to catch this invisible man, and one mistake could cost them their lives. Moreover, Butcher was not someone who trusted everyone he met.

"I don't trust him, and I know he's not a normal guy," Butcher said with a grin.

Hughie and Frenchy looked at Butcher in confusion, but Butcher had no intention of explaining it to them. The three of them began to watch carefully what was about to happen in the room.

"Don't bother trying; you can't kill me," said the man.

Ignoring his words, I continued to walk towards the cage. I stopped in front of the cage and touched the bars.

As soon as I touched the iron, a high voltage surged into me, making me tickle a bit.

With a smile, I lifted the cage off the ground by holding it and looked at the naked man. The man quickly disappeared as he was lifted.

It was true that the man was invisible, but he was still making sounds. Normal people couldn't hear these sounds, but I was not a normal person.

I quickly punched to my right, hitting the invisible man. When cracks appeared on the wall to my right, I knew the man had flown into it.

As I advanced towards the cracked wall, the invisible man tried to move away from there, but I could hear every step he took.

When he turned his back to me, I grabbed him by the nape and slammed him to the ground with all my strength.

The force of the blow made the ground crack and tremble. I didn't believe the man would die from that hit, so I continued to pummel him, holding him by the nape.

After hitting the man on the ground about twenty times, I let go of him and stood there waiting. If he didn't die, I would use the chaos's knives.

After about ten minutes of waiting, I heard no movement, so I walked towards the door. Just as I was about to leave, I heard a dripping sound.

When I looked back, I saw floating blood in the air. Well, it wasn't exactly floating; most likely, the invisible man's nose or lip was bleeding.

Seeing this, I smiled and walked towards the airborne blood.

"Please stop, I'll do anything you want," pleaded the invisible man.

No matter how much he begged, I didn't care. I delivered a left hook, knocking him down, and I straddled him, starting to punch his face.

With each punch, my strength and speed improved. The team outside the room could only see the blur of my punches.

My punches were so powerful that each blow shook the ground. As time passed, the floating blood in the air increased, taking on the shape of a face. No matter how tough his skin was, it couldn't withstand such powerful blows.

"If we continue, Homelander will realize we're here," Hughie said.

Homelander was patrolling this area, looking for the invisible man. The team was trying to avoid attracting Homelander's attention, but the sound coming from inside the room was excessive. Even an ordinary passerby would easily notice the noise.

"Let them fight; I wonder who would win," Butcher said with a smile.

Derek was so focused on pummeling the man that he didn't hear the conversation happening outside.
