The armored soldiers and the angels sent scouts to speed up the search for natives in the surroundings.
They could feel their objectives' direction by concentrating on their surroundings, so they decided to follow that feeling to see what they found.
Thanks to the wings on their backs, the angels flew over the trees around to move easier. By doing this, they realized that a large jungle that extended for many kilometers surrounded them.
Only after a few hours did one of the armored scouts return with the news that he had found a clearing.
"I saw it in that way. After a few kilometers, I found a large area of burned jungle, and in the middle of it, what looked like a human structure. Probably some sort of military base." the scout said while indicating the direction.
"It looked like it was inhabited? Or have you seen any people?" Jason, the leader of the armored figures, asked.
"Yes. I saw a few guards patrolling over the walls, and a few vehicles were moving outside too." the scout replied.
"Nice. If we are lucky, the soldiers will not be aggressive, so we can communicate with them and gain information about the area's general situation." Jason said.
After that, the three armies began to move in the direction the scout had indicated. As they moved through the forest, they realized something strange. No matter where they looked, they could not find any animal, not even a bird.
There was plenty of fruit and vegetation from which animals could feed, but no signs indicated that any lived in that jungle.
Another thing that they realized was that some trees' branches moved by themselves. At first, they thought it could be the wind, but after it happened a few times while there was not even a gentle breeze, they became convinced that something wasn't right about that forest.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Because of this, they sped up their pace to arrive at the clearing sooner.
In a few hours, the three armies managed to arrive at their destiny. In the distance, they could see the structure the scout had found.
They were two large buildings, three storage hangars, and a large landing track. A five-meter tall wall of reinforced concrete surrounded those buildings, protecting them from most land attacks and giving them some privacy.
Being a few hundred kilometers away, the leaders of each army meet to decide how they would approach that base.
"How are we going to do this? I don't think they will trust strangers easily if they have those walls." Nathan said.
"Most of the time, natives tend to attack at first sight. But we should not strike them back. If we try to talk with them, we might be able to convince them to cooperate with us, but if we kill any of them, it will become much more complicated than before." Jason explained.
"Are you suggesting we let them kill us without resisting?" Azrael, the leader of the angels, asked while arching an eyebrow.
"I didn't say that we don't act. We can defend ourselves; we only need to be careful not to attack so fiercely that we kill some." He explained. "Some of my men are capable of using their shields to protect a large number of people if they work together. If you can do anything similar, we can try to get near the base without even needing to attack them once."
"Some of my men can create barriers that might work perfectly for the job," Nathan said with a smile.
"Mine can do it too," Azrael said.
"Nice. Let's try it then." Jason said.
After that, the three armies rearranged themselves to defend themselves from any possible attack from the military base. Those capable of creating any protection would place themselves in the front and sides of the army.
As there shouldn't be any enemy on their backs, arranging the troops that way could cover a large area with their barriers.
Little by little, the army began to advance toward the military base. At first, there wasn't any response, but bullets started to fly in their direction when they were about five hundred meters away.
Activating their shields and barriers, they continued moving forward as they blocked any attack. From time to time, some barriers would break, but a similar one would replace them soon after.
When they were a hundred meters away, Azrael talked.
"We are close enough. I can communicate with the soldiers on the walls," he said.
After hearing that, the army decided to stay still while he tried to talk with them.
A few minutes later, the fire ceased.
