After testing that the symbol didn't work while using it on paper, the three friends decided to leave it for today as it was already late. Travis and Marianne went to bed soon after, as they had decided to meet again early in the morning to continue their tests.
As for Nathan, even though he went to bed too, he found himself unable to sleep no matter how hard he tried. Each time he was about to fall asleep, he found himself thinking about how he could replicate the symbol or how he could integrate it into his spells.
They have found a great opportunity in that forest. If they were fast enough, they would be able to learn from it before anyone else, positioning themselves one step ahead of every cultivator alive.
They would become famous, and their names would endure for eternity as the discoverers of the new cultivation revolution.
Thinking about all this, Nathan couldn't help but tremble with emotion. After a few hours of laying on his bed without any result, he decided to get up again.
He thought about continuing with the test without his partners but soon decided against it as they could see his actions as an attempt to monopolize the discoveries and take all the credit for himself.
Instead, he decided to go to the academy's library. There he hoped to find anything that helped him with their investigation, or at least read something until he felt like falling asleep.
He started looking around every shelf to see what he could find, even in the higher levels where one would have to pay a fee or achieve a certain status in the academy before reading the books there.
During his search, he found books about many cultivation topics, such as elemental energies, cultivation techniques, Guburg tattoos, magical beasts, and elemental regions.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
'Wait a fucking second. Did I just read Guburg tattoos?' Nathan thought as he realized something.
He went back to where he saw the book about tattoos. He looked to see if he could find any more books about the same topic, and after finding another one, he asked the librarian to get him those two books, as they were behind a locked showcase.
The librarian, annoyed because he had to work at such late hours, followed Nathan to check the books he had asked for and took them out of the showcase.
"Two books from the second level. They are unique copies, so you need to give me a guarantee to make sure you give them back to us. In total, there are going to be fifty energy coins for one day, of which thirty are from the bail. You will have to return them in less than twenty-four hours. If you are late in returning them, we will charge you another twenty energy coins each day," the librarian said to Nathan.
After hearing that, Nathan could feel a sharp pain in his chest. Looking at his savings, he realized he didn't have enough money to pay for both books, so he decided to take one at a time.
One of the books was about Guburg's history and the tattoos' origins, while the other focused more on how the tattoos worked.
Obviously, he took the latter one.
With the book in his possession, he returned to his room. He sat at his desk, and after summoning a small energy sphere to give him some light, he began to read.
As far as he knew, the Guburg tattoos were also symbols that amplified the skills of the body's owner where they were. Because of this, Nathan doubted if the Guburg had discovered how to use those symbols without the other tribes realizing it.
As he read the book, he found himself hooked as he found information that could be useful for their experiments.
One of the most important things he found was an explanation of how they created the tattoos. Even though the process itself was kept secret and only the elder Guburg cultivators knew how to do it, it was widely known that the heart and blood of a beast were required to create a tattoo.
That is because the blood and the heart would be used as the tattoo's ink, and at the same time, they will serve as the medium through which the energy will travel.
Thinking about it, Nathan realized that it made sense. If the material they used to create the symbol had low energy compatibility, the energy would fail to infuse into it.
With a few new ideas in his head, Nathan realized that the sun had just risen.
