SCENE 1: THE CHARACTER OF CHAOS
[Setting: Cthulu Falls Amusement Park. A sprawling, chaotic blend of whimsical charm and eerie undertones, the park feels alive—its attractions almost breathing, its lights flickering like mischievous winks. The air is filled with the laughter of children, the hum of distant machinery, and the faint, rhythmic pulse of the great falls at its heart.]
[The lazy river winds through the water park, deceptively calm. Families float on colorful inner tubes, but faint whispers seem to ripple through the air. Near the river’s edge, Conundrum, God of Conundrums, stands at a small podium, gesturing animatedly with a book in hand.]
Conundrum (grandly, to no one in particular):
“Behold, the unknown! A riddle with no answer, a path with no end! Fear its depths or delight in its wonder—these are the choices that shape us!”
[He flips the book open, the pages shimmering like liquid ink, and gestures theatrically toward the lazy river. A small crowd of curious park-goers watches hesitantly, unsure if this is an attraction or a spontaneous sermon.]
[Enter Claire, Elliot, and Simon, Claire’s 12-year-old nephew. Simon leads the way, his eyes wide with wonder as he takes in the park’s surreal landscape.]
Claire (groaning):
“Why do I feel like we’re walking straight into trouble?”
Elliot:
“Because we are. This place is a giant goat magnet.”
Simon (pointing excitedly):
“Look! That guy’s got a book! He looks awesome!”
[Simon rushes ahead, ignoring Claire’s protests. Conundrum, ever aware, turns his attention to the approaching boy, his grin widening like he’s found the missing piece of a puzzle.]

SCENE 2: THE PUZZLE OF FEAR AND DELIGHT
Conundrum (kneeling slightly, book extended):
“Ah, a seeker appears! Tell me, young adventurer: When faced with the unknown, do you first see fear… or delight?”
Simon (pausing to think):
“Uh… both, I guess? But delight is cooler.”
[Conundrum laughs, flipping the book to another page. The illustrations shift like living ink, morphing into vibrant scenes of impossible adventures. Simon peers at the pages, entranced, as fleeting images pass—a crowded park, a glowing Ferris wheel, and a shadow stretching impossibly long.]
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Conundrum (leaning closer):
“A wise answer. Fear may cast its shadow, but delight always outpaces it—if you let it. And here, within these pages, delight waits for the brave.”
[Simon stares at the pages, his expression a mix of awe and curiosity. Claire arrives moments later, pulling him back with a mix of irritation and protectiveness.]
Claire (firmly):
“Okay, that’s enough. We’re not taking home any strange, magical books today.”
Conundrum (standing, unfazed):
“Ah, but magic is such a small word for what you hold. This is possibility, my dear! The crossroads of choice and chance!”

SCENE 3: THE MANAGER OF DEPTHS
[Before Claire can retort, Dagon, Manager of the Water Park, steps forward from the shade of a nearby waterfall. His Hawaiian shirt clings damply to his frame, his presence calm yet unsettling.]
Dagon (dripping):
“Problem, Conundrum? Or are you philosophizing at the mortals again?”
Conundrum (grinning):
“Philosophy, my aqueous friend, is the bridge between questions and understanding. This young one is well on his way.”
[Dagon regards Simon with an unblinking stare, his tone both soothing and faintly ominous.]
Dagon:
“Curiosity’s fine, as long as it doesn’t get lost in the depths. You’d be better off on the lazy river—simpler puzzles, fewer consequences.”
Simon (excited):
“Can we, Aunt Claire? Please?”
Claire (reluctantly):
“Fine. But no books, no riddles, and definitely no life lessons from dripping gods.”

SCENE 4: THE WHISPERING WATERS
[The group boards the lazy river, drifting along its deceptively calm current. Simon leans over the edge, staring into the water, his reflection rippling with each movement.]
[As the group floats, Elliot adjusts his 3D glasses, his face growing more unsettled.]
Elliot (muttering):
“Does it look weird to you? Like… Styx-weird?”
Simon (grinning):
“It’s just the unknown, Uncle Elliot. Pretty cool, huh?”
[Simon peers into the water again and freezes. For a fleeting moment, he swears he sees an older version of himself staring back, a faint smile playing on its lips.]
Claire (nudging him with her inner tube):
“Eyes on the ride, kid. And don’t even think about asking to take that book home.”
[Behind them, on the riverbank, Conundrum and Dagon linger. Simon sneaks a glance back, catching Conundrum’s eye. The god tilts the book open slightly, its pages shimmering like starlight.]
Conundrum (softly, to himself):
“The unknown always calls, young one. The question is whether you’ll answer.”
Dagon (watching):
“Every current leads somewhere. The question is whether you’ll enjoy the ride when you get there.”
Conundrum (grinning):
“Ah, but isn’t a mess just a conundrum waiting to be solved?”
[They watch as the group drifts out of sight, the whispers of the lazy river fading into the hum of the great falls.]
