Chapter 33: Entrance Test Part 1

Chapter 33: Entrance Test Part 1

The teleportation circle stopped flickering as the group of ten containing Blue and Karla appeared on the other side successfully. As their vision stabilized after the instant travel they were hit with dizziness and felt their legs going weak.

Blue looked around the place. It was completely bleached in white. The floor, ceiling, walls, everything. The ceiling seemed to give off light. There weren't any doors or windows yet ventilation was present. This place gave the vibe of being inside a prison.

"To be more precise, a containment facility."

He thought as he glanced at the beautiful girl with silver hair who was squeezing his arms even tighter than before. Karla had a frightened expression on her face as she was looking around with vigilance.

He caressed her hair and patted her shoulder gently to calm her down. She looked at his calm gaze and felt most of her uneasiness washing away. She asked in a low voice,

"Where are we? Is this really the academy?"

"I don't know but remember the advice from earlier? We should remain calm. They surely won't leave us here with no explanation. There should be people from the academy to receive us. Let's patiently wait for them, okay?"

He reassured her as he kept caressing her hair. She also felt that this would be the ideal approach at the moment so she nodded her head in agreement. Other members of that group heard their conversation and also thought the handsome man made sense.

Not everyone of course.

Some couldn't hold back their curiosity and went forward to check for the door that was seemingly nowhere, some feeling angry at the long absence of anyone looking at the walls and ceiling while shouting to stop playing pranks on them as they thought there might be surveillance cameras attached there hidden from their view. Those who teleported earlier than their group were also nowhere to be seen.

Half an hour passed but there was still no change. Nobody appeared to receive them, there was nowhere for them to go. Those who were impatient from the start had already checked the entire white room. They didn't find any clues to their predicament.

An hour passed since their arrival and those who thought about following Blue's words also became impatient and mostly left the original spot they teleported in to search for clues. They also ended up joining those who had exhausted themselves from searching and screaming everywhere.

Two hours passed, except for four people including Blue and Karla everybody was roaming around or sat on the ground with a hopeless expression. The other two were men who also were very patient.

However at the four hour mark they also couldn't bear it any longer and thought about creative ways to get out of this room. Both of them thought others just weren't smart enough to think out of the box. So they also began their search.

Half an hour later, Karla also lost her patience as she shook his arm that was still locked with hers and urged,

"Maybe we should also look around for clues. It has been so long yet nobody came for us."

He however shook his head gently as he took off his bucket hat and put it on her silver hair playfully. He then replied with an adamant tone,

"I understand that this is truly intolerable for you but have you thought of it this way? Before we teleported here the player emphasized that we remember his last advice. That player obviously graduated from the academy so he might have to face a similar situation like ours so he gave us that advice sincerely. If even that is not the case then let us just believe in his character that he wouldn't deceive us juniors like this."

Hearing this Karla could only smile helplessly as she thought how good his heart was to even be willing to trust someone's character on their first meeting just because of a slight possibility that there was sincerity in their words. She nonetheless was influenced by his radiant heart that was bright like the sun and nodded her head to show her stance.

At that very instant, laughter resounded through the room.

Everybody was startled as they looked around. Their gloomy expression became hopeful as they confirmed that they weren't stranded here. Following that short laugh a male's voice came,

"Well said, truly well said. It seems there's an interesting fellow this time. All of you can exit now."

As the voice finished speaking a wall opened and revealed a doorway that led to a dark corridor. Everybody was stunned before sighing with relief and then thanked Blue profusely for getting them out of here. They naturally heard his earlier words and understood that the male voice only let them go because of him.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

He interacted with them politely and many from the group showed their willingness to follow him forward. He pretended to graciously accept their goodwill and urged everyone to follow the order quickly lest the door closed again. They were startled but quickly left though the doorway then into the dark corridor after the reminder.

They soon arrived at a similar room but this time there was a white table in the center and ten orbs on it. This scene reminded them of their awakening ceremony and all of them guessed if they were going to redo it again.

Sure enough, their speculations were confirmed as a new female voice came,

"Redo your awakening ceremony. Follow the same procedure and after being done with it leave those orbs back on the table."

The voice this time was pleasant to the ear but the tone carried extreme indifference unlike the previous male voice that held amusement. Regardless they were now aware that there were eyes watching them so they became even more obedient and followed the order.

Blue and Karla replicated the same action as their first awakening ceremony. However Karla was surprised that there were no illusory scenes playing above him. She suspected that those phenomena were only present when someone first became awakened of his caliber of extraordinary attributes.

She felt her understanding of him growing a bit and couldn't help but smile as she found herself discovering more about him.

His blinding white glow from the orb surprised the group but they didn't say much as they thought of it as an extraordinary attribute. After everyone put the orbs back in the table there were some flickering lights surrounding the entire table similar to when they teleported and shortly after the entire table teleported away from the room.

Another doorway appeared and everyone understood what to do without being told anymore. They entered promptly and soon entered another white room with a similar white table in the center. There were syringes, vials and trays of ten left there.

They understood what to do but nobody rushed. They waited for instruction from one of the voices. The previous male voice appeared again as it chuckled,

"Hehe, so you became more obedient now. That's good, that's good. Use the syringe to draw some of your blood on it and put a strand of hair on the tray. Make sure to leave it on the table."

After they were instructed everyone followed obediently and got the job done. A similar scene played after the table teleported away as a doorway appeared. Everybody went in but this time they were dumbfounded to find themselves in a grassy plain after exiting.

The blue sky, the golden sun, the gentle breeze and the scent of grass everything seemed to point to the fact that they were outside yet the male voice appeared again from the surrounding,

"Don't be surprised now. It is just a simulation. Those who got a non-combat class step back and those who got a combat class step forward."

The entire group did as he instructed and only four people stepped forward. Karla, Blue and the previous two men who were the last to leave the original spot seemed to have gotten a combat class.

"Four, huh? Those who are non-combatant exit through the new door."

At his words a new door similar to earlier opened literally in the middle of empty grassland a distance away from them. Many were shocked but instead of lingering around they followed the order and swiftly moved onto the next room.

"Pick up the weapon that suits your class the most. You have a minute."

This time the previous female voice with its signature coldness reappeared. Following her words three tables were teleported in front of them. The entire tabletop was filled with all sorts of maces, warhammers, flails, daggers, swords, axes, spears, bows and crossbows along with quivers of arrows, pistols, assault rifles and many other weaponry.

All four of them went forward and picked a weapon that suited their class according to the skill information they received.

The two men picked up a mace and an axe. Karla picked up a crossbow with a loaded bolt on it and a quiver of arrows. Her class was Restrictor which was more advantageous for mid-range combat.

Blue picked a spear type weapon, bident. His class was Blight Paladin that was apparently dominant in close-mid range combat. From the information about his three skills it actually suited a longsword for the weapon but he chose the bident instead.

His previous life had a very high spear art mastery as his main weapon was a bident that he acquired in the grotto-hell he was born in. That bident accompanied him from the start of his life to the very end as he still had it inside the subspace.

Will there be a suspicion from others?

Not necessarily, as the information about class skills were only known to the awakened. If there had been no past recordings of it then it was even safer and he was certain that his class didn't have any past precedents.

Because the Paladin class itself was very rare to begin with as only those with extreme sense of righteousness could get this class while any known variant of it was considered unique since that person's personality had affected the required righteous mindset too much thus giving birth to a new class. This made them stand out from other Paladins. His preparation against the weakness of mind reading and his true personality had mixed and gave birth to the Blight Paladin class.

There's only two ways to get information out of him, soul searching or voluntary confession. Neither was applicable to him in his current standing.

After everyone choose their preferred weapon the cold female voice said,

"A minute later, a simulation will be shown of a Dimensional Gate opening and invaders pouring in. Your task is to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible. Be warned that simulation will be very lifelike so treating it carelessly will cost you pain however it won't lead to fatality. You are to perform individually at a time. You have ten minutes to eliminate the threat."

All combatants tensed up and readied themselves after the voice finished. Blue asked the two dudes if one of them wanted to go first and unsurprisingly they hesitated but then said that the first honor should go to him. He only smiled and thanked them politely while inwardly he couldn't bother paying attention to their little schemes.

He wondered just how much strength he should show that would be beneficial for his plans.
