Chapter 13: The Adoption Process Part 4

Chapter 13: The Adoption Process Part 4

The director of Verdant Orphanage received a call informing him of an appointment related to possible adoption two days later. He didn't pay much attention at the beginning but when he learned about the name of the lady he jolted and quickly showed his most humble attitude as he dealt with the matter.

After the call ended he swiftly made his way to inform his lord.

His lord only nodded his head and ordered him to be at his best behavior when that lady came to the orphanage. He informed him that he was to be added among the batch of kids at that time. The director bowed to show his adherence. He returned to his office once graced by his lord during that fateful night six years ago.

Director thought how blessed he would have been if the lord graced this office as his dining room again. However he reprimanded himself for thinking unnecessary stuff. How could a mere ant ponder about who that great being would bestow his kindness to? So instead of that he should fulfill his lord's order as that would be his highest honor in this lifetime.

Two days later, during a cloudy morning that lady arrived at the orphanage along with a young girl. The lady wore a straw hat which hid much of her face and the young girl wore a cap. The pair seemed to like these head accessories as their dressing style seemed to compliment well.

Director was already standing at the main door three hours earlier than the appointed time as he had already cleared out all his schedule just so he could focus wholeheartedly to fulfill the order. After he saw that lady and the young girl enter through the main gate he quickly waved at them politely as he started exchanging greetings and pleasantries. He guided the pair inside the building with the most perfect servicing attitude.

He couldn't wait to complete his lord's next set of orders.

The cloudy morning alerted Blue of Laura's arrival. It was worth mentioning that since his subspace appeared in the city square six years ago the climate permanently changed. The season of summer would never see a hint of cloudy sky let alone a drop of rain.

This was common sense; his subspace's leaked aether was passively influencing the surrounding aether in Carnova city. Actually, Blue was surprised that this place got away with such an insignificant consequence. He was one of the top powerhouses back then so just his subspace's leaked aether would be disastrous enough for such a fragile environment.

Blue was certain that his current world didn't have any being capable of even understanding what a subspace was or they wouldn't have kept it around without any thought of plundering its contents. This point instantly helped him narrow down his speculations of the world he was currently in. To be more precise, the space in the Endless Void where he was located at.

He surmised that it was somewhere in the remote territories of the Inner Area of that empire. This also confused him since even after six years no wandering player from more prosperous territory sensed or arrived to check the "Dimensional Gate" that remained in a peculiar state with no invaders pouring in.

He sighed with helplessness as he could only wait for his awakening to gather further clues with his aether sense. Not to mention he would also unlock more bloodline abilities that could help him in combat or various precarious situations.

Blue had all the common bloodline abilities as well as his own branch's common ones that was available to an average adult abyss spawn without any fortuitous encounter or profound background at the time when he arrived in this world. But since his new body was unawakened some abilities that required the use of aether were unavailable to him.

He had confidence that since his bloodline carried on to his new body that surely those abilities would unlock with his aether vein awakening, alleviating him from being helpless at any confrontation.

The director had already been waiting at the main door even before the sky became cloudy. At the appointed time the expected prey arrived as Blue waited patiently for the director to fetch him along with four other kids. A while later, the director appeared and informed him about the situation. Blue nodded and went with other kids.

He had already prepared another item from the subspace which will force Laura to choose him. Though at first he was wary of his methods being rejected by the system but after using The Message in a Bottle last time and not receiving any warning he was now certain that as long as any of his bloodline abilities weren't involved to get her acknowledgement he was free to use any methods.

The system remained unresponsive as if to agree tacitly or so he hoped at least.

Blue entered the room at last and his eyes met with Laura along with a young girl by her side. According to the intelligence he had gathered during his first investigation she should be Karla, her youngest daughter. Now she should be an adult planning to attend her awakening ceremony.

As a matter of fact, Blue had already turned 18 four days ago. He would be able to attend the awakening ceremony along with her that will be held three weeks later.

Of course, since he had already became an adult the orphanage should had started arranging some consultation session to get him to set the dedicated course of a certain mortal craft education lest he failed during awakening but the entire orphanage had been corrupted and to get adopted by Laura he knew the law specifically mentioned the age limit of 17 thus he had set his birthday a week later from today in the Verdant Orphanage's registry.

The director also pulled some strings to patch up more than dozen similar age group orphans' birthday registry along with his. It would help prevent any suspicious point that would instantly rat him out if someone investigated for whatever reason.

After entering the room, he prepared to use that item but just as he was about to use it Karla abruptly stood up from her seat and asked in a loud voice that gradually turned meek that seemed close to a whisper,

"You! U-umm… What's your name?"

Blue was a bit surprised at her reaction but then he remembered about the strange instances when he just reached puberty at 13. At that time he would always garner attention for no apparent reason and females of all ages seemed to be indulgent towards him as they all had a deep interest sparkling in their eyes.

This matter had thoroughly been put on the back of his head since after that he had been on a frenzy of Perception Dissonance whenever the situation permitted. Along with the energy siphoning for the system as well as full corruption endeavor he didn't have to pay any attention to that abnormality for long as he had more important matters to address.

But now Blue realized that maybe he could actually take advantage of it, especially in this current situation. Though he didn't know the exact reasoning behind it, as the corrupted of that time would only say that he appeared very charming to them, but since it was favorable for him at the moment he would make the best of it. He mused that even without using that item his chances of success were actually above 90%. So he replied with a polite smile on his face,

"It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Blue."

After that, things progressed as he expected. The pair chose him after some discussion and introduced themselves as his new family from now on. Laura completed all the procedures on the spot, the effect from The Message in a Bottle still exerting its influence, then the mother-daughter duo led him to his new home as they exited the orphanage after he pretended to say his farewells to the people inside.

On the road he ended up attracting a lot of attention from all around him as he could not use Perception Dissonance because of his company. People followed him around and asked him this and that from time to time. It was starting to become an annoyance and he had to exercise immense patience so as not to kill them off. He also noticed Laura becoming more and more uncomfortable from all the second-hand spotlight she got. His understanding of her personality deepened a bit.

Karla seemed to ignore everything as her eyes didn't leave his figure. She would either stare at him with stars in her eyes or when he pretended to look at her with a puzzled expression she would return to taking sneaky glaces.

"This is getting out of hand. This abnormality needs to be solved quickly or it will bring me unending trouble in the future."

He thought gravely in his mind as he matched the pace of Laura who quickened her steps in the front just after a minute on their way home. People kept being attracted towards him and the previous circle of masses kept increasing as they got closer to their home. There were even some people following them all the way up to their house with a curious and awestruck expression on their face.

After finally entering the luxurious mansion which was Laura's home, she hurriedly closed the front gate to keep all the curious eyes away from them and instructed Karla to help him choose a room before she quickly went inside to retreat to her own room as she rubbed her temples.

Karla being overenthusiastic dragged him all around the mansion and finally after settling on a suitable room he bid her goodbye much to her reluctance. The room he chose actually had to match the condition that he could have an escape route in case of any danger and a bit away from others in the mansion. Of course, Karla knew nothing about it and just thought he liked the seaside views from the window of that room.

After closing the door Blue finally gained some privacy to check on the results he waited for six years.
