Interlude - The first Wardens

Josh was pissed.

People in suits that had no problem trading lives for money had now unleashed death and chaos upon the world and like with nearly everything in his life, he had to clean up some else's mess so that his family and friends could live safely again. He loved his path for many reasons and the fact that his wife, Amy, had a path that made him stronger and nearly indestructible made everything that much better. He had already crossed into the second tier with everything when the message came out near Clarksville where a rift had opened up from the direct strikes of two nukes.

He and his wife got on a transport plane with the other volunteers to crush the outpouring of monsters trying to sweep over the area. The president was doing the best he could to set up guilds around the nation to begin quelling and combating these outbreaks and was getting some success while the SecDef had his hands full killing the inevitable tyrants that would pop up whenever order broke down. They had been given the message from the president requesting they went to Clarksville not just to stop the monsters but also to provide extra security around what the news was calling the Seraph. She was one of two insanely effective healers that was tirelessly working to keep warriors alive against all the creatures coming out of the rift and as the president had asked them to become the regional warden of Kentucky and Tennessee it was in his best interest to keep this super healer alive.

Josh and Amy were flown in and disembarked to find the area in total chaos and people retreating to the plane.

"A black fiery wolf is coming this way! its massive and has torn through our lines like it wasn't even there." One of the remaining members of the old US Army soldiers said to the other next to Josh who took on a calm yet worried look.

"We need to repel this threat however we can, so it does not get further into the civilian population and to the hospital where people are getting healed and sent back to the fight."

Josh nodded looking at his wife who had already began layering buff after buff on him. As each buff landed, he could feel his strength growing and growing. It was at that point they all saw the wolf following the fleeing warriors snapping a few of them in pieces and scorching them in its fangs.

Josh launched himself forward with his sledgehammer and swung at the massive wolf before it could take another bite. The wolf didn't react in time as it was sent sprawling into the side of a hanger and going through the wall. To the wolf's credit it sprung to its feet with a slight limp to its left shoulder before it sprung at Josh who swung again with his hammer. The wolf caught the hammer and burned it with it flaming teeth.

"Fine...we will do it another way." Josh said to the world and then launched a right straight directly into its nose and advanced. The wolf yelped and clawed at Josh who didn't even try to dodge it. The claws slashed his clothing but as soon as the tips touched his flesh, they were rebounded not even leaving a scratch and yet Josh advanced. The wolf began falling back as the blows began to accumulate. The human in front of it seemed to become stronger and stronger.

The wolf was bleeding and limping, so it began looking for a means to escape when it saw Amy. Using it remaining energy it jumped at her only to be stopped by a golden barrier that was as stone. It smashed it face into it and fell to the ground as josh jumped on its back wrapping his arms around its neck and began to squeeze. The wolf went into an instinctive panic and began to try to get up but there was too much weight on its head and neck.

"Bad dog." Josh said as he heaved and twisted. With a loud snap the wolf's neck broke and it fell dead.

Breathing out Josh untangled himself from the beast as his lovely bride came up behind him and smacked his ass.

"Good game."
