Chapter 49 - Overwhelming power

Christian, Nathaniel, and Josh were moving at speeds last seen by 737 Airliners. They were moving quickly to Clarksville after their mom and dad dispatched them to deal with the fighting.

Initial reports claim that thralls had appeared and wanted the rifts. A massive gang known as the anarchists who also wanted exclusive hunting to the rift monsters, took advantage of the chaos. They had been moving for an hour and could see the smoke rising from the city.

As they dropped altitude, they as a single team activated their shared path of Vengeful Wraith. They turned translucent and began to move through the city.

They slowed down to around 100mph. With their Tier 9 minds they were able to track, analyze and aquire targets as they moved. They saw the thralls fighting other people in tactical armor.

They didn't know the difference at a glance between the guild members and anarchists, but as they saw the thralls in black they slaughtered them.

They used another skill ethereal claws and ripped through them like hot knives through butter, leaving the other people alone. They would determine who was who later when they had dealt with the thralls.

They wanted all the grunts dealt with before their parents arrived so they could crush the leaders of the force quickly without distraction.

- Kyrain and Nyx -

The two hunters where moving through the city block by block. Over the last couple of hours they had ensured the hospital was secured and began to move on systematically from there. May low tier users were under attack by the thrall. Sometimes they got there in time and were able to cut down the thralls, but other times they couldn't before they infected the users and turned them into thralls.

They would encounter some anarchists, but not even remotely as many as they did the thrall which seemed to be driven to create more of themselves. When Kyrain could see them coming, he could crush their cores and move on. Otherwise he would nullify them and cut them down, or Nyx would cut them down as they were slowed. Time crawled by as the fighting began to slow down and become quiet. There was less smashing and collisions save for the sound of the fighting between his uncle and the other 2. He couldn't believe a fight would take that long at that tier.

Why were they not exhausted or wounded beyond reason. He supposed that is part of what made people tier 10 and above so dangerous.

They had finished up clearing a few more thrall from a house when the earth rumbled and a massive shock wave nearly knocked Kyrain and Nyx off their feet.

- Josh and Amy -

They were furious. Josh and Amy were content to let people do as they will provided nobody got hurt.

That usually covered everything. Any crime against someone else hurt them in some way so if you didn't hurt anyone, everything was cool. However, it's inevitable that someone wouldn't mind their own business. Josh and Amy with their boys were going to fix it.

They gave their boys clear orders to destroy the lesser thrall and any anarchists they could 100% identify. They were powerful, but they were still their boys and didn't want them harmed even in the line of duty as their deputies.

They had live feed cameras on them so Josh and Amy could watch and have an idea of what they were walking into when they got on ground. Josh was proud of his boys. As kids, they were always stubborn...mostly because of himself, but also his mother who was beyond strong willed, but as the young men they were....disciplined, skilled, and dangerous when pressed.

Their Osprey was coming in to land at the airfield allowing them a view of the city. It made their blood boil even more seeing the damage. It was bad enough they had these lesser vampires running around, but some jack wagon decided to take advantage of people and try to take control. Josh would fix it and make them suffer for their arrogance and disregard for life.

They got off the osprey as he felt buff after buff get layered on him automatically by his wife who had trained with him daily or every other day until they were completely in sync. Josh felt his strength grow exponentially. After tier 10 his powers went through a massive jump where he gained nearly triple what he would have gained rather than just a normal tier up. The buffs boosted him way more than they used to sub tier 10.

He and Amy looked toward the rifts and they could feel the shockwaves taking place. If anyone under tier 5 was watching them, it would appear as though they took one step and vanished.

- The Wanderer -

The fight was a stalemate and it drove him absolutely up a wall. He would stagger one, only for the other to try to capitalize. They would wound, only for it to heal. It was a battle of slow attrition and it could take hours, yet they couldn't lower their guard as they could still be dealt a lethal strike if they were caught being complacent.

Individually, his opponents where not a threat, but together they kept him suppressed and unable to destroy them. He needed more power or at least reinforcements to finish this.

It was like his thoughts predicted the next few moments when massive outpouring of aether appeared almost from nowhere causing massive explosion of force launching him and the anarchist back and causing him to lose sight of the vampiress

Mitch quickly jumped back to his feet and rushed in warily. As he could see through the dust he saw a man clad in silver armor holding the woman by the throat, his face white with fury.

The woman was struggling with such intense fear written on her face, Mitch could see that she was using all her strength, but it was doing absolutely nothing in the iron grip of the man and that's when it clicked.

The Wardens were here.

There was a crack and squish as Josh Dusen squeezed breaking the woman's neck and crushing her neck outright removing her head causing it to fall from above his hand and her body to fall away below his hand as if she was made of nothing but clay or cookie dough.

Josh turned and looked at the other man, who was now shivering with fear. At the look of the warden, he tried to run, but only took two steps as a massive beam of light slammed into him blasting a hole clean through, kicking up more dust.

"You're not going anywhere." A woman's voice said as Amy came walking calmly up to the shocked man through the dust who was observing a bowling ball sized whole in his chest cavity before he collapsed dead.

"Mitch, sorry it took us so long. The boys are dealing with the subordinates as we speak. Soon we will be able to crush the anarchists too." Amy said as Josh was wiping the blood from his silver gauntleted hand.

Josh turned and at that moment he was launched by a massive impact sending him flying as if he were shot from a cannon.

*boom!*

The sound of the massive gunshot rang out seconds after the impact echoing across the now open field strewn with rubble. Mitch turned on instinct, sword ready, watching for any movement or discharge of aether. Amy was moving as quickly as she could for her husband, who was thrown into the remains of a house and out of sight.
