Kyrain paused his game and checked his phone, reading the message from his mom, he smiled.

He loved his mom's cooking and loved having dinner with her. Nyx was there which he had grown used to her being around and enjoyed her company. The house was too quiet without her being there the last few days.

He ran into his room and actually put clothes on. With Nyx not at the house he didn't even bother getting dressed.

After a few minutes he was dressed and throwing on his shoes, tore a rift open to the store to get a few items his mother asked for him to get for dinner.

After he paid, he opened a rifted outside his mom's house and then proceeded to walk up. His mom specifically told him that he wasnt allowed to use his ability in her house after she nearly walked through his rift and fell through into an extremely rainy location and that's not even mentioning the water he got all over her house from the rain coming through the rift.

Kyrain opened the door and walked in. Immediately he could smell the burgers and could hear Nyx laughing from the kitchen. Kyrain couldn't help but smile at the sound.

"I'm here!" He called to the rest of the house.

"In here!" His mother called as Kyrain headed in. As he turned the corner he could see the long silver hair of Nyx done up in a new type of braid he had never seen her wear. As he placed the bag down on the counter he leaned over and gave his mom a kiss on the cheek.

"Dinner smells great mom. Always excited to be here for it." He said turning to see Nyx smile up and over at him before quickly looking away, causing Kyrain to look at her confused then turned away himself with an internal shrug.

"Can you and Nyx set up the table out on the deck? I put out the mosquito torches and they need lit too." She asked as she tossed Kyrain a lighter who caught it and nodded.

While Kyrain was lighting the torches around the deck, Nyx was setting the table up with three places. She then walked to the railing nearest to Ky who was down below lighting the last torch.

"Ky...what are your plans after we are done with probation?" She asked.

Ky finished lighting the torch and looked at her. "Not sure actually. There are a lot of problems across the world that I wouldn't mind helping out with, but then again I might just stay here and be the point of contact here in Clarksville. Why?" He said and asked.

"Well...I was thinking...would it be ok if I just continued to work with you and stay with you?" She asked.

Kyrain was about to respond when it clicked what she had asked.

"I would love for you to. I was worried you would have decided to get as far from me as you could after what happened. I'm still so so sorry Nyx. I really didn't mean to hurt you. You're one of the last people I ever want to hurt." He said looking down still feeling ashamed.

*thunk!*

Nyx knocked her knuckles on the top his head.

"I've already told you a few times, I know you didn't mean to. You have apologized enough and I forgive you." She said still looking at Ky.

"So....yes? We are going to keep working together even after we are done with probation?" She asked once again for clarification.

"Yes! Absolutely!" He said happily as the back door opened up and Brittanie came out carrying the first plate of burgers and set them down.

"Nyx, can you grab the mashed potatoes and Ky, can you grab the corn and rolls?" She asked.

After a few minutes they all were sitting at the table and eating while talking about nothing significant. After they were done, Nyx got up and went inside to put some of the dishes away and help wash up.

Brittanie pulled out her phone and after a few clicks she read something then looked up at Kyrain.

"Take her to the lighthouse at the cape." She said suddenly causing Kyrain to look up suddenly.

"Why?" He asked furrowing his brows.

"You like her don't you?" She asked.

"Yeah...but I don't want to ruin things if she doesn't feel the same." He said in reply.

"You read your dad's email to you about this sort of thing right?"

"Yes." He said

"Good. If she says yes then you are doing great. If she says "no" then you respect "no" and you continue on. If you want something then be honest and ask. Let her know your intent and leave nothing a guessing game. At the very worst she will feel wanted and needed if you do things right." Brittanie said.

Kyrain looked down and thought about letter from dad he had read and pulled out his phone to read it one more time.

"Good or bad at least you have your answer." Brittanie said and she got up.

"It's nice and warm over there with a good sunset in about an hour and a half. I'd love to go with your dad if we could." She finished saying as she opened the door and walked in leaving Kyrain finishing his thoughts who pulled the email up.

Hey Bear,

Happy 2nd Birthday! I'm watching you run around smiling from ear to ear and hope you feel this much joy when you look down at your own child, but that got me thinking to tell you some stuff in case I'm not around to tell you myself when you go through it.

I always worried about the "What ifs," but you can't. You have to go for it sometimes and it's the scariest thing you can do. In that moment you're going to be awkward and clumsy trying to communicate with a person that is as alien to you as if they are not even from this planet. When you find a girl you really like and enjoy being with, be strong and courageous. Let her know what you feel and how she makes you feel. Think about it like this, if you walk up to a girl and tell her she is beautiful right before you ask for her number she may still say no, but when you are polite and still wish her a great day even after being told no she will still remember that and hopefully have a smile because not only did she get to be told she is beautiful, but wished a great day.

Always communicate your intent and if it's a good intent 9 times out of 10, things will always turn out alright.

Kyrain closed the email and got up.

"Thanks dad..." He said as he got up, readying himself for what felt more terrifying than facing his uncles as that same time.
