Chapter 51 - First blood

Chapter 51 - First blood

Kyrain sat on top of a small cliff over looking a camp. He was alone as had been the instructions given. Kyrain thought back to the event.

"Destroy them all that are in Israel. Do not touch a single person, animal, or property that retreats to Syria."

Kyrain was uneasy about it all. He had been asked to kill a lot of people. Normally, when someone says to kill and religion is attached to it, they are called liars and false teachers which it made sense with Jesus, but this was different.

Elisha smiled knowingly at him and told him all would be well so Kyrain continued to trust in what he was being told and what history had taught him about these events and left.

The Syrians had sentries posted and they were sharp. They were smart in how they stood far from any fire to preserve their night vision. An ambush would be incredibly difficult. Kyrain had access to his stats, but he didn't knos how everything else would work when the fighting started and it made him nervous. Kyrain drew his short sword from his leg sheath and pulled his shield from his back. With two quick jumps he bounced down from his perch and began moving quickly through the grasses up to the camp.

Kyrain was going to use overwhelming power to annihilate these men. The first sentry appeared and Kyrain flashed passed him sword slicing horizontally removing his head. Kyrain turned still moving as fast as he could physically and shoved the still falling body forward away from the light a little more before he continued onward to the next. The longer it took for them to raise the alarm, the easier this would be.

The soldiers were in a thinly layered iron and leather armor that his blade had no issue cutting through. Over the course of the next half an hour, Kyrain killed each man quickly and efficiently until everything was silent and dead. He left no message and made sure that he left not a single trace save for the severed heads which he lined up in a formation with the commander's head in front before he left.

The Syrians were positioned in 5-10 mile intervals that controlled the border between their nations and over the next week, Kyrain systematically moved quickly and dangerously between them killing them all until he was forced to stop as the sun came up each day and they began to move toward their own objectives. They were moving further and further into the country. Using a map on a piece of hide he had sketched from his reinforced memory of what Israel looked like, he asked Elisha before he left if it was right and it suprised the prophet who confirmed it's accuracy.

His mind wandered back to Elisha in his down time. He had this misconception in his head that prophets were these all knowing people, but it turns out they were just normal people that would periodically speak for God when it was necessary otherwise they lived as everyone else. They were a little off as they adhered to the rules way better than others as they knew God better. Every time Elisha asked a question about things to come, Elisha never understood and it worked the same every time Elisha tried to find out about the Messiah.

They had tried everything from talking, to sign language, to drawing pictures, to even acting and nothing could be understood. Kyrain eventually just referenced the tower of babel and that was something Elisha understood and they quit trying to get around the limits that seemed to be set by God.

Kyrain trailed his latest group of Syrian soldiers that were moving west. He had quickly counted them and found the unit to be 70 strong with one commander. The last night, Kyrain found not a single sentry saw him coming. He moved way too quickly and his empowered beast claw sword cleaved through them as if they were made of the flimsies material. This means his chitin armor would hold up if he were struck, but he didn't want to test it because he also didn't know if his abilities still worked.

He still had no movement from the system or his HUD. Kyrain, using his mask zoomed in on the unit and saw they were equipped just like every other he had faced so far. He was content to just follow and wait until darkness to destroy the units...or that was his plan until he looked ahead and saw a fighting force from Israel waiting to intercept the Syrain soldiers. They kept moving confidently forward toward the Israelite warriors who pulled bows and began to aim. The Syrians pulled shields and thats when Kyrain found his opening.

They were so focused on the larger force to their front, they probably wouldn't even bother to look behind them. He was wrong...very wrong. As he moved quickly behind the column they noticed him immediately. Nothing in the history books suggested these people should be this sharp, but they were. The back of the column put up a shield wall and looked at him quite afraid as he had his mask down making him look so beyond foreign even more than usual.

The first volley of arrows streaked in and they were blocked, deflected, or stuck into the iron shields as the soldiers underneath laughed at the feeble attempts of the Israelite opening strike. They then began to move forward looking like an iron centipede. The rear of the formation continued to watch Kyrain who causally followed not seeing any bows ready for use, but was ready in the event they had them under the shields as he had seen in the Roman representation of testudo. He knew they had swords and spears that might be able to hurt him. Under normal circumstances he would have just nullified their kinetic energy and dealt with them, but his skills were used in combination with the system and it helped him sense things.

Without the system he was useless to his skills which was a huge problem. After this fight, he would actively work to see if he really did need the system for his skills. His body was made of antimatter and by all logic he should be able to use his skills as he didn't die when he couldn't pull up his HUD.

Kyrain needed to be patient. This was war and an opening would present itself sooner or later.
