Chapter 4 - Ring the bell

*Bruuun! Bruuun! Bruuun!*

Sorin was furious. He had been scoping out this reinforced fortress of a city for days. He was overconfident in his abilities to breach anything on this planet because as far as he had seen, he was one of the strongest now, but apparently there were contingencies for people like him and there were people who were no push overs with good defenses they could bring up with little warning.

This last attempt was him trying to override the lock on one of a few posterns for the wall surrounding the city of Hyperion, but they had technology which he couldn't just brute force. The moment the lock was pulled away, it broke and aether circuit that was literally on the dead bolt tripping a city wide alarm sending guards swarming and this was the fourth time in as many days.

The guards also didn't play games, nor did they become complacent with the seemingly false alarms. Luckily the first time he tried, he didn't just sheer the lock and make it clear someone was trying to enter otherwise they would probably be on more of an edge and higher security posture than they already were. He had watched the city for a couple of days prior seeing how closely they monitored everyone coming in and out, they had some sort of scanner, they checked everyone for documents, and every single time there was a stowaway, they were always discovered.

He tried to just go underground, but they had an aether field the covered the city in 360 degrees that any disruption sent the city off like a kicked bee hive. He found out the hard way and was almost discovered by their earth path users. Going from the sky was out too as they had flight paths and that stupid aether field.

He had tried everything that came to mind from trying to match the field frequency and push through, to finding weaknesses in the circuits, to even sewer channels, but the city was seemingly impregnable.

Sorin now just sat off in the distance on the branch of a tree toward the top with his leg swinging thinking about his powers, as well as clever uses of the elements to be able to breach this stupid city.

"Screw it." Sorin said as he dropped to the ground.

He pulled up a massive amount of sand and began to hold it in the air in a ball so that with his left hand he could pull out all the iron particles using extreme electromagnetic energy. As soon as his sand ball was free of iron he let the iron fall away and focused on the sand.

He then pushed large amounts of heat into it causing it to melt and glow. He was hoping to vetrify the sand. As soon as it began to melt together, he started shaping and separating it into lenses. Each lens he created was as big as a garbage can lid and was a convex. He held everything in place and began to slowly cool them. After another half hour of work, Sorin had five lenses that were not crystal clear, but would work for what he needed...hopefully.

He took the iron from ground, and after he heated it to glowing, he attached it to each of the lenses to they were lined up and perfectly straight. After it was cooled, he was ready. He had no idea how effective this would be, but science was fun.

He grabbed his contraption and went to one of cliff sides that overlooked the city about a mile away where oddly enough he could see into palace gardens and had a clear view of everything including massive stained glass window where he knew the throne room to be. He also positioned it to where the rising sun would be directly behind it for some energy like camouflage.

With a flex of his will Sorin brought stone up to hold lenses in place aimed directly at the palace. His inner child was doing flips with the idea of whar he was about to try. He checked to make sure the lenses were perfectly aligned and after he was happy with everything, he just had to wait. It was evening now, so if he tried this, he would be spotted and any defenses they had could be brought up and they would be ready for any further attacks. So he just sat down and relaxed the rest of the night.

Stolen novel; please report.

- The next morning -

The sun was bright and glaring, the sky was a nice blue. After one last check for any changes and flaws, Sorin was ready to give this a test.

He stood at the back of the device, brought his hands together in a very iconic way as fire aether began flowing into an orb. Sorin poured more and more and more into it, compressing as he went until it was white with flickers of purple...he pushed.

- Pallas castle: War room -

"My Lord, we are holding and making progress on all fronts except were Euryale has been making a constant advance. Our forces have been plagued by misfortune and what seems to be a demon attack. The few that fled and survived said it created a forest out of the bodies of the men, but Euryale and her forces are untouched." One man with a lot of regalia on his chest said pointing to different sections of the tactical map.

"You're seriously proposing that Aegis has made a demonic pact?" Duke Pallas asked in suprise.

"We don't rightly know my lord. The men were terrified and the powers were cruel." Another man said stepping forward.

"I-"

*BOOM!* SHHHRRRR!*

An enormous explosion and equally as large line of energy ripped through the room they were in. Half of the room was incinerated in a moment with the other side being superheated. As the men in the room were all above tier 10 they were able to react and try to put shields up to protect themselves and the duke, but it did little. They succumbed to the inferno one after the other...except one; the duke himself.

The energy cut off, but the damage was catastrophic. The duke, with burns all over his body ranging from 2nd to 3rd degree pulled himself from the rubble with an enraged focus. He saw a massive slice in what was once his palace where a superheated beam of power went through. There were screams, smoke, dust, and fire everywhere. People were in a panic.

He stumbled from the severe damage to his body and was trying to get to the throne adjacent room, if it still existed to get to his master healing potions he kept in the event of an attempted assassination. He couldn't see as the smoke and dust was everywhere so he was going by memory.

He kept moving slowly toward his objective when a figure stepped powerfully in front of him dressed in red and black with a silver mask on his face in the form of some demon. Duke Belloraphon tried to react, but his body betrayed him as a hand closed around his throat and he felt something solid punch into his stomach where his core is.

In his horror, he felt his aether forcefully being ripped from him. The process took a few seconds, as he tried to strike in his severely injured state, but he couldn't activate any of his skills as this monster had seized his aether system and was ripping. Finally after every ounce of aether was ripped from him a vial was poured down his throat which healed his injuries except for the stomach wound. It was at this point of realization, he felt it then agony.

His core shattered like glass and his body began to spasm from the destruction of his aether system, but the potion continued it's work at a reduced agonizing rate. The monster in front of him, let him slump to the floor in a daze where Belloraphon watched the boots of his destroyer fade into the dust and smoke.

- Sorin -

*Bleep!*

*Bleep!*

Congratulations! You have absorbed massive amounts of Kinetic aether granting you affinity for it and greatly reinforcing your body stat.

Congratulations! You have achieved Body Tier 16.

Sorin had a huge grin on his face as he had more to experiment with not to mention he was at body 16 placing his physcial traits even higher than his mind and spirit which had worried him some, but no longer.

Sorin was chilling back in the tree with his left leg dangling from the branch he had dubbed as his thinking tree, watching the smoke rise from the destroyed palace. The spies the Aegis family had would be able to get a message back to them and end this war rather quickly now and freeing up Euryale.

Sorin had no desire to do anything further, he would get the report from the Aegis family later, so for now he just watched the smoke rise to the sky as he tried to pick out different shapes he could see in the smoke.

He caught himself and had a slight worry over how easily it had become to destroy people and places. He put that into a mental box and hid it away for when he got home.

Brittanie would help him fix everything and get him back to being a good man. He settled on an old saying.

"There comes a time when good men, have to do very bad things."
