05 – (season 1) – Research

As Jim logged off, he frantically searched the web for inspiration.

“How can I maintain a barrier without the inside molecules from shredding the barrier shell . The mana molecules need to be spinning in one direction to provide enough vibration to slice when using a sword as a medium”

Jim wasn’t able to figure a solution and went to bed.

He went to the doctor in the morning to get a regular check up which yielded a healthy body report. On his way out, he passed by the patients with casts on their body from accidents. He thought nothing of it at first when all of a sudden, a patient screamed loudly to attract everyone’s attention in the hall. Everyone walked by and took a sneak peek into the room.

The patient was just nervous as the doctor slipped cutting the cast and accidentally hit her skin. He explained that she shouldn’t be worried as the saw only moves at a certain frequency and moves back and forth only a small distance. It cannot cut skin because the skin is not hard enough and elastic enough to stretch with the saw. He gave her a quick demonstration by placing the saw on his own skin and turned on the machine.

After stopping the saw, everyone saw that his skin was fine and wasn’t bleeding.

Suddenly Jim had an idea.

“My theory wasn’t wrong, I just wasn’t using the right medium. When I slashed through goblins like cake, I was moving the mana in one direction in a loop using a solid sword to as a medium in one direction. This creates strong slicing forces similar to chain saws, but to move mana using the air as a medium, I should use frequency to move back and forth in short distances. This will allow me to create a soft shell to allow the wave to move through the air without breaking the mana shell, I just need to connect the shell to be elastic.”

“shit, how do I make mana elastic, am I going to throw goblin skin or animal skin everytime I swing my sword. People might actually mistake me for a crazy person.”

Jim was thinking about what can a sword not cut.

A sword can cut air, steel, rocks, anything physical and solid it can cut. Jim suddenly had an inspiration.

Can a sword cut water?

Surely in those fantasy novels, you hear masters cutting through water, but in reality can a sword cut through water? Water is not technically solid like rocks and should technically hold enough elasticity to absorb being separated and reformed.

Jim was excited to test this theory when he got home.

As soon as he logged on, Jim went straight into a nearby forest.

“Its time to theory craft, come here little goblins” as he said with a sinister smile.
