Chapter 37. The New Hero

Chapter 37. The New Hero

As the moon hung low in the night sky, the team assembled in the shadows of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Those that were clad in sleek black suits carried silenced pistols and high-tech gadgets.

In contrast, those that wore blue mystical robes carried relics that would aid to their magic. They were the key to navigating the building undetected.

Together, this unconventional team blended the worlds of high-stakes espionage and supernatural intrigue, poised to carry out the heist.

Lex Luthor's plan was about to be set into motion.

The team moved with practiced precision, their steps muffled by advanced footwear designed to minimize noise, and managed to get in the bank undetected, thanks to magic.

Inside the bank, security personnel and guards patrolled their routes, unaware of the impending threat, and the dulling security systems.

The normally vigilant security cameras flickered and malfunctioned, their lenses clouding over with a temporary haze, rendering them useless. They then relayed fake images to the monitors.

The motion sensors, which would have detected any unauthorized movement, suddenly registered nothing but empty corridors.

Lex's surveillance equipment provided a real-time feed of their movements to his team, reinforcing the intuition of the magic users.

At a nearby rooftop, Lex Luthor himself observed the operation from a safe distance. He wore a sleek black suit, the air around him exuding a calculated confidence.

His eyes were fixed on a holographic projection of the bank's interior, generated by his high-tech glasses.

The decoy plan he had deployed was working, since no superhero or villain had disrupted his plan so far.

Felix Faust stood beside Lex, overseeing the magic practitioners that were part of the team. Lex had offered him a magical deal that he couldn't refuse, and in the short while they had worked together, he felt a step closer to getting what he really desired.

The corridor leading to the hidden chamber was dark and silent.

The team moved with utmost precision in a well-rehearsed file. They were a well-oiled machine, each member knowing their role in this audacious heist.

They reached the entrance to the bank's underground vault, where the artifact was rumored to be hidden.

A sorcerer stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. With a wave of his hand, he chanted an incantation, and the massive vault door began to creak open slowly, revealing the darkened chamber beyond.

As the team entered the vault, they were greeted by a sight that left them awestruck.

Illuminated by the dim glow of the light bulbs on the ceiling, a pedestal stood at the center of the room. On it rested the artifact—a crystalline sphere pulsating with a greenish energy.

"Gather around the target. You, you, and, you, watch the entrance." The assault team commander issued his orders as the sorcerer's gathered around the artifact to secure it.

The heist had been going well so far.

(Master of the mystic arts)

I emerged from a stealth portal onto the rooftop, blending seamlessly into the darkness.

My presence went unnoticed by Lex Luthor and Felix Faust, who were engrossed in monitoring the heist's progress.

As I approached them, my eyes fixed on the holographic projection of the bank's interior, a wry smile crossed my face.

"Beautiful night for a heist, don't you think," I said, intentionally interrupting their concentration.

Lex Luthor turned to face me, his expression a mix of surprise and annoyance. "Who are you, and how did you get up here?" he demanded.

Felix Faust, standing beside Lex, peered at me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. "What do you want?" he asked.

I chuckled softly, my demeanor oozing confidence. "I have a knack for showing up when things get interesting. I'm curious as to what you're doing with all these artifacts you've been nabbing."

Lex glared at me, taking his time to analyze my appearance. My attire looked mundane and casual; Just a black suit, but with a touch of class, however.

Lex's frustration was evident as he said his next words. "This is no time for admirers. Get lost."

I raised an eyebrow. "We might not have crossed paths but I'm aware of your motives, and you dipping your toes into the mystics combined with your scientific genius might be a threat I'm not willing to see evolved."

"Oh, I see. You are one of them, huh?" Lex started. "You should have brought the whole team with you."

Felix Faust's eyes glinted with a newfound interest. "I sense a power within you. You're not just an ordinary intruder, are you?"

With a subtle flourish of my hand, I summoned a shimmering aura of energy around myself, illuminating my features and revealing my attire. "Call me Doctor Strange. The master of the mystic arts."

Felix Faust stepped forward, his eyes blazing with magical energy. He raised his hands and unleashed a barrage of dark smoke attempting to hold me captive in a mystic cage.

I had been practicing for weeks now on improving my use of magic in this world, and as soon as the smoke neared me, they faded away.

Felix gasped mildly at the sight as he quantified my power in his mind.

To avoid tapping into the mystics of Marvel, I had learned a way to use my original spells using the dimensions in DC. That included what I had just done now.

I had summoned the Shields of Seraphim around me by connecting them to a mystic source from DC, thanks to the barrier surrounding the globe.

My speed enhanced, the shields became effective before they even materialized to show Felix what had barred his charms.

Extending my arms, I summoned the Crimson bands of Cyttorak towards Felix Faust, who managed to dodge them with a protective spell.

Just throwing it out there, I said. "Now that you know a bit of what I can do, surrender now and abandon your days of crime."

"Hahaha. You've got some nerve." Lex laughed out loud at my demand as he prepared his attack.

As if preparing for combat, I summoned the Crimson Circles of Cyttorak on both my clenched fists, ready to attack and defend.

With a flick of his wrist, Lex activated a concealed mechanism in his suit, and a sophisticated-looking energy weapon materialized in his hand.

He pointed it towards me, and a beam of intense energy shot forth.

I combined both my shields absorbing Lex's attack, dispersing it harmlessly into the night sky.

Still hellbent on immobilizing me, Felix Faust chanted an incantation that summoned shadowy tendrils from the ground.

These tendrils snaked towards me, and I allowed them to grab my legs before levitating into the air. It was time for me to attack.

I dissolved my form into the Mists of Munnopor obscuring myself from their sights, and sent the Bolts of Balthakk towards where the dual stood.

I limited their power enough to not kill them, but just stun them.

I then reappeared behind them, with the crimson bands now holding them still, as an electric shock surged within their bodies.

The magical projectiles had come so quickly and unexpectedly that they didn't have enough time to dodge or defend from them.

Seeing an opportunity to disarm them further, I decided to press the advantage. I extended my hand, and from my fingertips emerged the Flames of the Faltine. Fire erupted around me, forming a swirling inferno that enveloped both Lex and Felix.

They cried out in surprise and pain as the mystical flames licked at their suits and robes, searing through the fabric.

But I wasn't looking to cause permanent harm; I just needed to subdue them to put an end to their days of crime and whatever they were plotting with magic.

"You'll p..ay f..or th..is." Lex mumbled pain-striken as he struggled to move his body.

In my mind, I knew I was already victorious. This was the easiest thing I had to do ever since I got here, but I failed to acknowledge Lex's wit and resourcefulness, believing that I had weakened him to his core.

His hands close to his belt, he activated a concealed device. A shimmering force field sprang into existence around him, protecting him from the flames, and somehow releasing him from his bounds.

He smirked at me and threatened, taunting me from behind the protective barrier.

Felix, however, was not as lucky. The flames seeped through the cracks in his weakened shield, singeing his robes and causing him to scream in agony.

He desperately tried to counter my magic, but the Flames of the Faltine were relentless.

With a final burst of effort, Felix Faust managed to dissipate the flames, his robes charred and smoldering.

He glared at me with hatred in his eyes, clearly not pleased with how our encounter had turned out.

Lex Luthor, still behind his force field, assessed the situation. It was clear that I posed a significant threat, and he needed to act fast to regain control of the situation.

He reached into his tattered suit and retrieved a small device, pressing a button on it.

Suddenly, a series of loud alarms blared from the rooftop entrance, signaling the arrival of reinforcements.

Lex had called in his own team, clad in high-tech armor and armed with advanced weaponry, unwary of inviting more guests to the party.

Lex Luthor's cunning plan was to keep me occupied as he and the team that had now secured the artifact ran away.

But I wasn't just about to let the artifact go away that easily. As the reinforcements arrived at the rooftop, I summoned my willpower and created a containment barrier around the whole bank, ensuring that no one could leave.

I was about to do the same for Lex and Faust when something hit me hard, sending me flying across the rooftops.

I protected my vital areas as I heavily landed on the concrete tops, the Cloak of Levitation trying hard to keep me afloat.

As I struggled to rise, I saw the team advancing towards me, unwilling to let me go after my interference.

Lex was escaping, using his reinforcements as bait.
