Chapter 13. What's Next?

(The Watch Tower)

The remaining members of the Justice League in the Watch Tower convened in a secluded chamber, the tension in the air palpable.

Bruce was preoccupied back in Gotham, Arthur in Atlantis, Hal off to search for the Teen Titans and Clark indisposed by a mysterious ailment.

In the control room stood Princess Diana, the Amazon Warrior, Barry - the Speedster, Oliver - the Archer and J'onn - the Martian.

They faced a critical decision: whether to trust Doctor Strange, the mysterious sorcerer who had caused chaos in Gotham and placed Clark in the medical bay.

Wonder Woman was the first to speak, her voice steady and determined. "I believe we should consider using Doctor Strange's abilities to help Clark. His magic may be the key to undoing whatever damage was inflicted upon him."

The Flash, known for his quick wit and impulsive nature, wasn't convinced. "Diana, you've always had a more optimistic view of people, but this guy caused a major catastrophe in Gotham. We can't just take his word for it."

Green Arrow, who had dealt with his fair share of distrust and betrayal in his vigilante career, chimed in. "I'm with Barry on this one. We can't afford to be too trusting, especially when it comes to someone with such immense power."

Wonder Woman sighed, understanding their concerns but still holding onto hope. "I agree that caution is necessary, but we have the Lasso of Truth. It revealed his intentions, and he genuinely seems remorseful. Besides, if there's even a chance he can help Clark, we should take it."

Green Arrow, carefully, knowing what his implications meant, expressed his doubt. "What if the Lasso of Truth couldn't reveal the whole truth, Diana? What if there are aspects of his intentions or his past that even the Lasso can't uncover? We're dealing with magic here, and magic can be unpredictable."

Barry, always the voice of reason, added, "And we can't forget the chaos he caused in Gotham. Whether it was intentional or not, innocent people were hurt. We can't just overlook that."

Wonder Woman furrowed her brow, feeling the weight of their skepticism bearing down on her. She had always been a steadfast defender of truth and justice, and her reliance on the Lasso of Truth had never led her astray before.

"Ollie, Barry," she began, her voice steady but earnest, "I understand your doubts, and I respect your caution. But you know as well as I do that the Lasso of Truth is a powerful tool. It has revealed the deepest secrets and intentions of countless individuals, even those who resist it."

Barry, ever the pragmatist, interjected, "That's true, Diana, but we're dealing with magic here. Doctor Strange's powers are beyond our understanding, and we can't be certain that the Lasso can penetrate the complexities of his magic."

Oliver nodded in agreement. "And we've seen what magic can do. It can be deceptive, elusive, and unpredictable. We can't afford to make a mistake when it comes to Clark."

Diana nodded, acknowledging their concerns. "I'm not suggesting blind trust. That's why I deliberate left him unguarded to see if he meant us harm."

J'onn, the Martian Manhunter, who had been silently observing the discussion, finally spoke. "Perhaps we should conduct a deeper investigation into Doctor Strange's background and intentions. We can't make a decision solely based on what he's told us so far."

Wonder Woman nodded. "You're right. We need more information before we proceed. J'onn, can you use your telepathic abilities to probe his mind and see if he's withholding anything?"

J'onn hesitated for a moment, considering the implications of such an action. "I can attempt a surface scan to see if there are any immediate concerns, but a deep probe without consent would be an invasion of his privacy."

He left the chamber briefly to perform the telepathic scan on Doctor Strange.

The Martian Manhunter, having completed the telepathic scan of Doctor Strange, entered the chamber with a solemn expression. "I have conducted a surface scan of Doctor Strange's mind, and while I did sense some reservations and inner conflict, I did not detect any immediate threats or malicious intent."

This news seemed to alleviate some of the tension in the room, but Barry remained cautious. "Surface scans can only reveal so much. We still need to be vigilant."

Diana nodded in agreement. "We will continue to monitor Doctor Strange closely and only allow him to assist with Clark under strict supervision. If anything appears amiss, we'll take immediate action."

The Flash, known for his rationality, raised an important question. "But what if he can't help? What if he's here for some other purpose, something more sinister?"

"Besides, we know someone else who can help. Have you considered that?" The Flash added.

Wonder Woman considered the possibility but remained resolute. "Then we'll deal with it, as we always do. But we can't turn our backs on a potential ally without giving him a chance to prove himself."

"Oliver tried to contact him already, but he said he was unavailable at the moment. Something about 'the fates not ready to intertwine'." Wonder Woman continued her reply.

"What about the rest...?" Barry argued further.

"Preoccupied." Green Arrow replied.

Green Arrow crossed his arms, still skeptical. "Fine, we'll give him a chance, but we keep a close eye on him at all times. If anything feels off, we act swiftly."

With a nod of agreement, they decided to head for the containment chamber.

As they reached this tentative decision, Wonder Woman couldn't help but feel the weight of the responsibility that came with leading the Justice League.

The fate of their friend and the safety of the world rested on their choices, and they would proceed with vigilance, hope, and a determination to uncover the truth.

I watched them enter the chamber, their expressions a mixture of doubt and curiosity. It was clear they were still wary of me, but I couldn't blame them after what had transpired in Gotham.

I hadn't yet met Barry or J'onn, and the feeling of the excitement of meeting my heroes in real life, surged through me.

Wonder Woman gestured for me to step out of the magical barrier, and I complied, stepping forward cautiously.

The Flash was the first to speak, his voice laced with skepticism. "Alright, sorcerer, you claim you can help Superman. How?"

I took a deep breath, knowing that my explanation needed to be convincing. "What's his situation?"

"There's a strange mystical energy flowing within his body and mind, like an uncertain cloud of mysteries. His vitals are however normal." J'onn replied.

"Superman's condition sounds magical in nature, a result of my uncontrolled magic in Gotham - sorry. I believe that with my knowledge of the mystic arts, I can attempt to reverse the effects and restore him to normal." I implied.

Green Arrow wasn't convinced. "And why should we believe you won't make things worse?"

I met his gaze directly. "Because I have no reason to harm Superman or any of you. My only goal is to learn and master the magic of this universe. Harming the Justice League would only hinder my progress."

The room fell silent as they considered my words. The Flash tapped his fingers impatiently, clearly torn between his desire to help Superman and his distrust of me.

Wonder Woman, ever the diplomat, spoke next. "We will allow you to try, but under strict supervision. You won't be left alone with Clark, and any sign of betrayal will result in immediate action."

I nodded in agreement, relieved that they were giving me a chance. "Thank you. I understand the gravity of the situation, and I won't take your trust lightly."

"I believe J'onn can keep a closer eye on me." I added, a careless inclusion.

"How-" Barry gasped.

"Something he can do." The Green Arrow said, eyeing me keenly.

With their decision made, we proceeded cautiously. I was escorted to the medical bay, where Superman lay in a state of suspended animation.

The Flash and Green Arrow kept a close watch on him, their eyes never leaving the sorcerer.

I approached Superman's bedside, his hands glowing with mystical energy. They watched closely, ready to intervene if anything went awry.

The Man of Steel was a sight to marvel. All the while, I battled internally with my emotions, careful not to explode into a fanboy and blow my cover. I couldn't believe that this was happening? I was surrounded by heroes from the comics!

Knowledge of the mystic arts in mind, I began the incantations.

"By the Vishanti!"

A soft, ethereal light surrounded Superman's body.

The room seemed to hold its breath as everybody waited to see if my magic would have any effect.

I could feel the mystical energy swirling in his body, strange and cloudy. The energy felt both familiar and strange, like a nostalgic memory stuck at the back of my mind.

For a moment, Superman's eyelids twitched, and a faint color returned to his cheeks. The magic was working.

But a strange feeling engulfed me, a sensation of uncertainty, leading me to stop my incantations.

"He'll be alright," I said, "But I don't have all the answers and knowledge of the energy that resides within him."

"I told you he couldn't do it." Barry jumped in, almost colliding with my words.

"So what's next?" Diana asked, her trust in me reinforced, having seen superman's reaction.

"I need to master the mystic arts of this universe to help. There's something more than my usual magic lying within him."
