Arriving at Azure Sky City

Arriving at Azure Sky City

The commotion caused by the appearance of Seeker Twin Viper caused the whole city to go into uproar. This was a man who had not made an appearance in a few thousand years! He had finally brought himself out of seclusion and the first thing he did garnered the attention of not only the people within the city, but in the other cities as well. Many people came to congratulate the City Lord's Mansion and forge strong ties with them. It could be said that they were extremely impressed by Twin Viper's strength and comprehension towards the water element and formations. And it was rightly so. Saving the city from a beast horde ranging from tens of thousands of beasts and more was an amazing feat and those who could were undoubtedly peak existences on the continent.

Many people wished to see Twin Viper but the man had stubbornly refused, saying that he needed to cultivate as he had gained an insight from the battle. This was of course untrue. How hard was it to gain enlightenment? One could travel and live for decades or centuries and still not experience the slightest bit of enlightenment! Furthermore, enlightenment was much more likely to be gained against opponents stronger than you. With trash like the wolf, how could anyone possibly gain enlightenment. Thus, the people took a hint and left the city when they had finished their business. As such, the commotion that Twin Viper caused began to die down after a few days.

Feng Yun and the other Death Singer Mercenaries wished to leave the city as well. They had remained in the city long enough and seen everything that had to be seen. To remain here would only delay their journey. They gathered at the entrance, with Dong Fuzhen leading them at the front and the carriage holding the Zhou clan members in the center. Feng Yun stood alongside his own battalion with Xia Qing.

The group moved to the exit of the gates, the guards giving them a slight nod. One of them shouted something to another guard and the gates began to slowly open. Out into the horizon lay great plains and forests and mountains. As well as the journey ahead.

"How is the rest of the journey looking?" Feng Yun asked Dong Fuzhen with an indifferent expression on his face. The latter was surprised because he had not expected Feng Yun to suddenly creep up on him like that. Smiling with satisfaction he said,

"It's quite good. We have already passed all of the major obstacles. I'm confident that if we just continue with this high morale and strength, then we can easily reach Azure Sky City in three months!" Feng Yun nodded his head with satisfaction and headed back to his group.

The group moved in formation beyond the gates with determined expressions on their faces. Stopping at Twin Viper City had been a great choice due to the fact that the team morale increased. Not only that, they got to watch a fight between peak existences! This further served to fuel their excitement and it could be said that the Death Singer Mercenaries was in great shape. The rest of the journey would be a piece of cake.

And so, the remaining months of the journey passed by.

During this time period, Feng Yun spent time cultivating and managed to nearly break through to the fifth layer of the Xiantian realm. He only needed one final push before breaking through. Xia Qing was also close to breaking through to the fourth layer as well.

Not only did his cultivation improve, but his ability with his current abilities drastically improved as well. Day after day, night after night, he practiced his sword skills and refined them to a high level.

Surprisingly, very few enemies had dared to attack the group during the three month period. Most of them should have been scared off by the sheer power of an army of Xiantian cultivators. But this worked in the group's favor as their journey progressed smoothly.

Feng Yun walked alongside Xia Qing, making small talk with her and the rest of the battalion until the silhouette of a large dominating city invaded their line of sight. Excitement immediately arose among the members of the group as all of them could identify that they had reached the end of their journey. The city that could be seen in the horizon was clearly...

Azure Sky City!

After months of trials and tribulations, the Death Singer Mercenaries had finally reached the end of their journey. They had worked so hard for this job and they knew that they would gain a large reward of money once they reached there. Thinking about the money made them unconsciously lick their lips. Almost every single mercenary there was thinking of the lavish lifestyles that they could live in once they reached there. They had momentarily forgotten the people who had sacrificed their lives on the journey for them.

Dong Fuzhen clasped his hands together and a small tear came down his cheek. It was one of joy...and tragedy...but mostly joy. He looked forward to the future but could not help but think about whether it was really all worth it. People had died on this trip, for the cause of monetary gain.

Zhou Yanling had sensed everyone's excitement and looked outside of the carriage and saw the familiar shape of her home. Smiling widely, she shook her grandfather's hand, motioning outside.

"Grandpa! We're home. Azure Sky City is right there in the distance!" Elder Zhou glanced outside the carriage and was surprised to see the familiar scene. He too smiled and said,

"Good. We have arrived on time. Ling'er, your engagement is going to take place here. Are you ready?" Zhou Yanling's eyes shined upon hearing of her engagement. It was apparent that she was looking forward to it.

"Yes Grandfather. I have heard so many good things about the young master of the Du Gu Clan. He's handsome, he's talented, and he has a great status. What girl wouldn't be excited?" Elder Zhou laughed as this. This girl still had some of her childish aspects despite being fifteen years old.

"Indeed. the young master is all of those things. The Du Gu Clan rules over the entire Azure Sky City. There are very few powers that can match up to it in the entire Xu Dynasty. If the marriage is successful, then the Zhou Clan's power will skyrocket to a whole other level!"

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"Grandpa, I'm itching to kill that brat Qiu Yun! We need to get the Ensealing Cloudvine Symbol from him!"

"Do not worry. Your father will take revenge for you. Not only that, you also have the Du Gu Clan's support. Killing him will be easy. His background can't be that big that it can overcome the Du Gu Clan's authority." The two were like a pair of foxes, their cold smiles reflecting their schemes. From his interspatial ring, Elder Zhou brought out a small and normal bird. He placed a note in the bird's claws and spoke a few words to it. The bird then took off into the air and flew towards the city.

As the group got closer, they could make out the features of the city. It wasn't that different from Twin Viper City if you looked at it carefully. The only difference in the exterior was that the Spiritual Jadestone was slightly blue and the front entrance was guarded by a large dragon statue. The dragon had a menacing glare and an imposing posture, that threatened those who entered with ill intentions and inspire awe to those who merely wished to visit. The walls were also slightly taller but it did not look as grand as Twin Viper City, despite it being in higher rank than the latter.

The group wasn't too stunned by the exterior look as they had seen how Twin Viper City and could say with certainty that the two cities were comparable. They walked on and eventually reached the entrance to the city within a few hours. The gates stood tall and were guarded by fierce warriors with a gust of wind as an insignia for them. They went through a similar process for the inspection as they did in Twin Viper City, them having to check their badges for identification. After all, First Class Cities held extraordinary status. They would only allow those with great status to enter.

Zhou Yanling got out of the carriage personally this time and handed the guard her identification card. The moment that the guard saw the symbol of the Zhou Clan on the badge, his cold expression turned to that of warmth.

"So it is the young miss of the Zhou Clan! We were told by the City Lord that you would be arriving soon."

"Yes, my grandfather sent a message a few hours back. Is my father there?"

"The clan master of the Zhou Clan is at the headquarters. They are all waiting for you. As well as the young master." Hearing this, Zhou Yanling's pretty eyes glowed.

"H-He is? The young master himself is there?!"

"Of course. Your engagement is happening soon. Why wouldn't he be there to meet his future bride?" The guard said warmly. Zhou Yanling covered her face while a blush made its way on.

"I-I see. Well then, I should go meet them."

"Yes miss."

The gates opened up at the call of the guard and the whole mercenary group was allowed inside. Elder Zhou had gotten out of the carriage as well and walked beside his own granddaughter. As such, the carriage was useless and was taken by some guards to move somewhere. The army followed the two Zhou Clan members to the location of the headquarters.

While they were moving, they noticed that that status of economy, though not bad at all, was inferior to Twin Viper City. Not all of the roads were paved with Spiritual Jadestone and there wasn't as big of a crowd there. Furthermore, the amount of shops and people of varying status was less. This wasn't to say that there was none. On the contrary, there were many people there, just not as much as in Twin Viper City. It was quite humorous how a First Class City could lose out to a Second Class City this way but it was really a matter of luck. Twin Viper had stumbled on a chance encounter with someone of great status and so his city, though forever remaining a Second Class City, became incredibly powerful.

When they reached the headquarters. they were met with an awesome sight. It was practically a large piece of private property. It stretched for about half a mile, filled with houses and villas meant for the members of the clan. There were several training grounds where young ones about twelve to thirteen years old practiced martial arts. Zhou Yanling walked up to the gate that barred the entrance to the clan and yelled,

"Father! Your daughter has arrived!"

The shout echoed throughout the clan and all of the children practicing martial arts stopped to recognize the voice. The elders that were cultivating at the time, awoke instinctively and proud smiles filled their faces. All of them could recognize the voice that had penetrated the atmosphere. They moved to invite the person in but one man was faster than all of them.

The figure zoomed through the air at an incredibly fast speed, towards the gate entrance. If one was able to see his movements clearly, there would be the hint of a smile on his face.

A minute later, the figure landed right in front of Zhou Yanling and the Death Singer Mercenaries, his feet touching the ground with a loud sonic boom. The dust gathered around him in circles as he adjusted his posture. He seemed to exude a lot of pressure, but compared to Twin Viper and Dai Tian, it was much weaker. Still, the power he held was not to be underestimated.

The man looked to be middle aged, with a slight beard growing on him and a small mustache. He wore green robes and had short hair. A warm smile overcame his gaunt expression as he enveloped Zhou Yanling in an embrace. He extricated himself from her and said,

"Welcome home Ling'er."
