The Horde

Hey guys. So, I have heard people asking about the chapter length being pretty short.

FUN FACT- I have been checking around most of the Xianxia story chapter lengths and most of them, with the exception of Desolate Era and a couple others, have a chapter length of about 2,000 words. I have started the habit of checking how much words I have put in each chapter and have made sure it is nearly 2,000 words. Just saying guys. It's pretty hard thinking of things to put in a chapter.

Well whatever, ENJOY the chapter!

Feng Yun and the others began to search for a spot to settle in as they gradually grew accustomed to the scenery in the city. There was much to do in the city and there was no point in time where there weren't crowds of people up and about.

Dong Fuzhen left the group to go ask a guard about recommendations for housing for the large fifty man army that accompanied him. The guard frowned slightly when he saw the massive amount of people congregated together only a few meters away but his face quickly turned thoughtful. After thinking for a little bit, he spoke to Dong Fuzhen with a few words and the latter nodded his head gratefully before turning back towards his mercenary group.

Feng Yun strode up to him and asked him where they were going to be housed. The old man cleared his throat and replied.

"There is an inn on the far side of the city. It is titled the Warm Gale and is specifically built for housing a large group of people. The guard told me that fifty people might be a little much for the inn, but he said that they could probably do it if they were given sufficient money. Supposedly, its quality is good!" Feng Yun nodded his head at the old man's answer and withdrew back to his own battalion. Dong Fuzhen was about to strike conversation with the boy when he noticed that Feng Yun had disappeared so quietly, like a silent ghost. His eyes widened a little before going back down.

"This kid...he really isn't one for extended conversation is he? The way he disappears is so quiet and skillful. I fear for those who choose to offend this kid in the future." Dong Fuzhen sighed and smiled wryly at the lack of extended conversation Feng Yun had with other people. In fact, the only reason he would associate himself with other people is if it was beneficial or if they were important to him. There was no need for anything else.

The group quickly found out that traveling in the vast Twin Viper City was not easy. There were many pathways to tread on and one could easily get lost in such a large city. If they did not have a map and explicit directions from the guard, then it most likely would have taken ages to reach even the inn! Furthermore, the crowds were too large and people flocked in from all directions. Because of this, movement was so slow that you could take only a few breaths worth of distance before you had to slow down because of the crowd.

After a few hours however, they group finally made it to their destination. The Warm Gale was a very large inn consisting of several buildings, each one many stories in height. It was like a whole complex full of people. In Twin Viper City, hotel and inn services were plenty but there were more customers than inns. Therefore, there were too many people flooding into inns and hardly any spots for people to live in. This was true for The Warm Gale as well. Countless people of great status were signing in to rooms and checking people in. There were groups of thirty or more and some had a mind boggling number of one hundred warriors! It appeared to look like a large army congregating for war. They all wore the same suits of armor and most of them had prideful and dignified expressions, as if nothing could shake them. In comparison to the Death Singer Mercenaries, this army seemed like terrifying gods of war.

Feng Yun and the others saw this and surprise flickered on their faces. They wondered who these people to have such an awe inspiring force. Feng Yun had a deep comprehension of the elements due to the Eleven Colours Elemental Leaf so he could sense them when they were around. Quite a few people within the army gave off a feeling of total control of the elements and absolute power. Some of them were no weaker than Feng Yun's own father, Feng Luo.

Truth Realm Cultivators!

Feng Yun couldn't keep the shock out of his eyes as he understood the level of power this army possessed. They had multiple cultivators of the Truth realm and all of them were either as strong as his father, or even stronger! He watched them march off to their resting place after they had checked out with narrowed eyes. There were way too many people of higher status in this city. Everyone you passed would likely have incomparable positions in the outside world. It was better not to offend any of them. Soon after the army left, Feng Yun and the others proceeded to check out for themselves as well.

At first, the front desk had been very inquisitive to the identity of the people in front of her as she didn't know whether they were people of status or not. They appeared to be a ragtag group of brutal warriors but they had managed to get in the city. How would they have been able to do it without any status? The woman at the front desk decided to not question it and spoke to them with respect. After all, there were too many crouching tigers and hidden dragons in this city. To offend one may bring disaster upon oneself. She asked for the payment of 500 purple coins, which was standard and quite cheap for such a high quality housing inn. Feng Yun cringed from the number but produced the money nevertheless. He only had about 600 or so purple gold coins left. He let out a small sigh as they disappeared into the woman's hands.

I truly must find a way to make more money in the future!

"Sirs, how many people will be housed in the inn?"

"A little under fifty people," Feng Yun answered. The woman made note of the amount in a small notepad and shouted something to another member of the front desk. A moment later, she passed a small slip of paper to Feng Yun and said,

"On that sheet of paper is the number of the building assigned to you. Head there and all the necessary arrangements will be there for you. If you have any other requirements, please send someone to contact the front desk and we will see to it that you get what you need." The front desk woman nodded her head at them, indicating that there was nothing else left to do. Feng Yun and Dong Fuzhen led the rest of the Death Singer Mercenaries out of the check in area and towards their building. Their housing was #458 so it was a bit far off. Luckily, the Warm Gale had a minor teleportation array for sending people to their appropriate housing.

Feng Yun and the others stood near one currently. It was a large yellow circle filled with runes and symbols, most of them being that of shapes. Above the circle was a dial that was currently set to four zeros in straight succession. Feng Yun realized that it was asking for the housing number. Deftly, he changed the second zero to four, the third zero to five and the last zero to eight. All together it looked like...

0458

The circle expanded and grew larger until it reached a certain limit. Feng Yun beckoned the approximately fifty people behind him to follow him onto the circle. The mercenaries did so without hesitation and soon, the space was filled up. There was a button underneath the number selection that Feng Yun had noticed. He pressed the button and the holy light around them grew ever brighter. Soon, the whole army could feel themselves dematerializing and being transported to another place. Their bodies were enveloped in the light and disappeared all together. Feng Yun had experienced something like this before when he was transported out of Dai Tian's palace so he was much better adjusted. The others however, felt slightly panicked and weird. They had no time to ponder about this as the instant they disappeared was the same instant that they reappeared, this time in a new location.

The army readjusted their eyes, which were currently very blurry so that they could see what their living quarters would look like. They were surprised, Feng Yun included, to see that the housing was extremely extravagant. It was practically a large private villa. The house was colored white with golden windows and palace like walls. It even seemed like a palace. The mercenaries drooled from the anticipation of living here and immediately rushed towards it to unpack. Feng Yun walked slowly with Xia Qing, savoring the surroundings. The housing was at the level of the villas back home at the Cloudscale Sect. In fact, there was very little inferiority. Xia Qing was the child of an aristocratic family as well but even she did not enjoy such extravagant lifestyle.

Feng Yun noticed that their villa wasn't the only one on this floor. There were many other people on it as well, some strolling around, while others were merely conversing with their peers. While the rest of the people went to explore their new home, Feng Yun stayed behind to explore the place they had been transported to. He walked in a very leisurely manner, looking at the scenery. The place was filled with greens and an almost illusory tranquil setting that made anyone who entered feel welcome. He found a place with a lot of shade and walked over. There was a large pink cherry blossom tree that stretched its branches outwards to cover a relatively big area. He decided to lay under it, stretching his legs and closing his eyes, enjoying the tranquility. He had not napped for more than ten minutes when he heard something interesting from nearby. Two boys, approximately twenty years of age were walking past him on the sidewalk, clearly in a heated discussion. Feng Yun picked up on what they were saying and was instantly interested.

"Brother, did you hear? Apparently, there is going to be a large monster horde coming to Twin Viper City!" One of them said.

"Again? These monsters never learn do they? They lost the last time they attempted to take over the city and they will surely lose this time." The other one spoke lazily. Feng Yun's ears perked up. A monster horde? Coming to the city?

"Well of course they will lose. However, we still get to see the City Lord's Mansion in action again. The battle will be spectacular I tell you!" Then, the two men walked off, out of hearing distance for Feng Yun. He smiled to himself as he pieced together the information he had gained from the conversation. So a monster horde was coming to Twin Viper City? Well then, this should be quite fun. It wouldn't hurt to take a look would it?
