Chapter 63 : Backup Is On It’s Way, Opening Act Of Kenric vs Druid

Located in the heart of the city of Wester.

There was a glossy white dome building with many people wearing guard uniforms going in and out.

The dome building was around 20,000 square feet and was the heart of Wester.

All those who occupied the city knew about the building as it was the headquarters for the guards who ensured the city was safe.

Upon first entering the dome, one would notice that in the center of the building, there was a black pyramid in the center of everything.

Before the black pyramid was a receptionist desk and beside it were walls that blocked those entering from seeing anything behind the scenes.

The black pyramid had 5 levels, corresponding to the ranks that guards had.

Level 5 was the largest one at the bottom, then after that was level 4, level three, level 2, and finally level 1 which was the smallest level.

Guards could take missions below or at the level they were at but never above that.

The main incentives for guards to keep raising their levels were promotion rewards such as potions, weapons and even tutoring by higher-level guards.

The last one was especially important as being a guard was something that most people preferred not to do.

Akin to the military in Reno’s previous world. It wasn’t strange for higher-ranked guards to boss around lower-ranked ones as they pleased.

Along with the fact that most of those who joined the guards were due to some punishment or because they couldn’t graduate from university or they couldn’t attend one in the first place.

On the fourth level of the pyramid, a receptionist was giving an account of a call for help that was received a short while ago.

“The name of the guard is Kenric and he has reported that druids have invaded the carnival on Wester City’s first main street.”

“The rating of the enemies is suggested to be around C-D rank.”

“As such, we need two fourth-rank guards to report to the scene.”

“If none come up voluntarily then I’ll choose at my discretion.”

There were around 30 rank 4 guards on the fourth level of the pyramid.

They all knew Kenric, if anything it was strange if you didn’t know him.

The only hybrid guard that worked in Wester City.

Around a minute passed with no one volunteering.

No one wanted to help out a hybrid. It was partially due to what they had been taught along with not liking Kenric as a whole.

Among the fourth-rank guards, no one could dispute that he was the strongest.

It was partially due to this pettiness that almost no one wanted to help him as it would be better for them if he were to get killed.

It was a brutal conclusion but for those in this world, it was a normal conclusion for them.

Seeing that no one was volunteering, the receptionist sighed and then scanned the crowd for the strongest 4th-level rankers she could pull from memory.

All while being disappointed in the group.

‘Even while being hated for helping out, Kenric would always volunteer as backup when needed.’

‘I know that some of these people have personally been helped by him as well but this is what he gets in return.’

Making up her mind, the receptionist called the two she had chosen.

“Serena and Jace. I’m choosing your team of two as backup. I’ve sent the coordinates to your watches, make haste to the scene.”

The receptionist then scowled at the two of them.

“If I hear any account of you two having misconducted yourselves from anyone or see it on camera footage then a rank drop will be the least of your worries”

“If you want the proof, remember the last time I had to punish someone.”

Hearing this, Serena and Jace gulped and pushed down what they were going to say.

Serena had brown skin, yellow eyes, white hair, and a rapier on her side. Her build was fairly petite and made her seem like a delicate doll.

Jace was a pale white with black eyes, brown hair, and a staff that was bigger than him in hand.

He seemed like a twig with no muscles and had a cloak over his guard clothes.

Each level of the pyramid and each rank of the guards had an exclusive receptionist for themselves.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

The exclusive receptionist for rank four was Quenna Ariz.

She was known for being fairly calm and tame 95% of the time.

The only time she would act like she had a while ago was when she was irked about something regarding the guards them-self.

Which all fourth rankers knew was never a good thing.

Quenna was a B rank marksman.

Using guns in the current era that humans are in was considered extremely rare.

Not only do you have to spend time to imbue enough energy into them so they can do damage.

Most normal guns move much slower than most of those who could use energy.

As such, special guns and bullets needed to be made.

The thing was that for these to be made, not only was a blacksmith required but a variety of other craftsmen.

Which increased the cost exponentially.

Quenna was one of the lucky few who could chase this path due to some family backing and a good deal of luck as well.

Wasting no time, Serena began running down the pyramid stairs while Jace followed behind her via levitation.

The two had been a team for around 3 years or so.

Serena tapped her smartwatch and then pulled up the coordinates.

“Why are we so unlucky, Jace? Out of all those in the mission center, we had to get chosen.”

“He’s the strongest, isn’t he? He should be fine. I don’t get why we have to help the damn hybrid, he could die for all I care.”

Jace nodded.

“That would be great but it’s Quenna’s orders. If we disobey them then we’ll end up de-ranked and in the worst case we might end up like Ravi.”

Hearing this name, Serena felt chills on the back of her neck.

“True that.”

Reaching the bottom of the Pyramid and exiting the dome, the two entered a white jeep.

Jace was on the driver’s side and swiped his smartwatch which caused the car to turn on.

Serena then continued what she was saying.

“Even now, it’s wild to think that Ravi who was the ace of the fourth rankers got done so bad.”

“All he said was that he didn’t want to respond to a backup request because he had to leave for a mission.”

Jace nodded and then added on.

“Don’t get me wrong, that was a shitty move on his part but how he was done was a bit extra.”

“It was only five or so rank five guards out of the thousands that ended up dying.”

“Even so, Quenna demoted him, and when he tried to complain about it.”

Jace mimicked a gun with his hand and acted like he was shooting at the glass.

“One shot to the chest, another to each of his hands too, three in total.”

“Rubber bullets with a bit of energy in them too.”

“Heard he was in the hospital for some weeks as well. Quenna wasn’t even scolded either.”

“No matter if we hate Kenric, we’re doing our best to help him right now.”

Jace glanced over at Serena.

“No funny business Serena.”

Serena slumped into the car seat while using her right hand to support her jaw.

“Alright… Alright…”

“No funny buis-”

Pieces of carnival stall appeared in the air followed by a large explosion.

Serena was dumbfounded.

“What the hell is going on there.”

Kenric had barely dodged the druid’s kick that was aimed at his head.

This caused him to roll over.

Wasting no time, he got back on his feet.

As soon as he did however, the druid stomped the ground right next to him causing the concrete surrounding them to fly into the air.

The druid then immediately drew back her hand and then tried unleashing a punch on Kenric.

“Tch”

Hearing that only the pieces of concrete were hitting each other, the druid realized that Kenric wasn’t hit.

She then looked around the place but only noticed the rubble she had caused.

Kenric sighed.

He holding onto one of his arrows while using his energy to keep it floating in the air.

‘This will be annoying. Druids usually either use soul magic or summons as their henchmen to attack others.’

‘Someone like this that uses a summon to augment their physical strength is rather rare.’

The druid that Kenric was fighting had pieces of knight armor on.

Around her feet, chest, hands, and legs.

Listening to Trista, Kenric ran to somewhere he thought was safe and then took out his phone to get some backup.

Due to some stupid reasons, he wasn’t allowed to have a smart watch so the guards had given him a phone to use instead.

Due to how long it had been since people used phones, Kenric had been ridiculed many times due to it.

After he had called and reported the situation he was running back to try and help Trista but had been stopped by a druid.

The druid had a blue flower on her forehead that looked similar to the pink lotus that he had on his.

When the druid saw the marking on Kenric’s head, she asked him.

“Are you Kenric?”

Upon being questioned by the enemy, Kenric had stayed silent.

Getting no response, the druid shrugged.

“I’ll take that as a yes. Better safe than sorry.”

[Enter, Skilled Squire, Muriel ]

[Help Me to Mow Down My Enemies]

‘That was when the armor appeared on the druid and she started fighting me.’

‘How do these druids know my name, I’ve been living with humans since birth.’

‘Could it be related to my parents?’

Kenric shook his head.

‘Not the time, I need to take the druid down first.’

Kenric let go of the arrow.

[Enter, Martial Artist, Geffroi]

[Help me rid my path of all foes]

As Kenric was falling, two gauntlets that were as big as his head appeared on his person.

Around the gauntlets was an aura of pink color.

All druids were born with an innate flower that influenced their soul magic and spirits when they were summoned.

Kenric’s innate flower was the pink lotus which lowered the amount of energy his spirits expended when manifested.

As well as increasing the control over the spirit as well.

‘She’s not the only one who chose to take that route.’

The first race that Kenric was comprised of was a druid.

As such, he could also summon spirits and had an innate flower.

Seeing what had happened, the druid raised her eyebrows.

“Are you Kenric?”

“As a part of our mission, we have to take you back.”

The druid then put her left hand in front of her right, showing that was all she had to say.

Kenric did the same.

‘For a druid, she’s surprisingly not as supremest as I thought.’

“Not happening.”

No one wanting to take the first hit, Reno and the druid observed each other.

Wondering who would move first and take the disadvantage of entering the other’s range.

Surprisingly, the first one to move was Kenric.

He rushed right into the druid who was on guard and threw a punch with his right hand.

The druid didn’t think she would have to block and was going to use her left hand to parry the punch and then hit him with her right hand.

The thing that surprised her was that she wasn’t able to do this.

‘Fuck! His hand won’t budge, I should have blocked it.’

The other race that Kenric was fused with was a dwarf.

Dwarves were known for three things.

Their control over fire, their hatred for goblins, and their seemingly boundless strength!

The druid couldn’t stop Kenric’s punch and it collided with her face head-on.

This broke some of the wood and vines her head was comprised of while also launching her back into a food stall 10 meters away.

Not even staying down for a second, the druid got up out of the food that had been wasted and the pieces of the food stall and walked back over to Kenric.

There was a huge crack in her face that ran down the middle but was slowly healing.

The druid then wiped the green blood running through her mouth and put her left hand before the right once again.

The gaze she gave to Kenric told him that unless she died, she wasn’t going to abandon her mission.
