Chapter 22 : Unexpected Trouble, Kian Reed

Chapter 22 : Unexpected Trouble, Kian Reed

When the entire class made their way through the rift, they arrived at what seemed to be a dilapidated camp.

The rift that the class had gone through could be said to be a distortion of space and time.

Rifts were a spiraling mass of energy that was around 10 meters long and 10 meters wide. The one that Reno’s class had gone through had a green color.

Some rifts had different colors depending on the place that they were transported to. In addition, rifts had small masses of energy that seemed to be like stars orbiting them.

Similar to how the giant mass of the earth was the reason for its strong gravity, rifts were similar in that regard.

The more energy contained in one, via strong lifeforms, strong artifacts or equipment, etc then the more stars that would be orbiting that rift.

It was due to this that humans were able to get a rough estimate of the strength of a rift before they entered one.

The rift that Reno went through had only only one star orbiting around it meaning that it was a rank 5 rift

For Rank 5 it was 1 - 3 stars,

Rank 4 was 4 - 7,

Rank 3 was 8 - 11,

Rank 2 was 12 - 15,

Rank 1 was 16 - 20,

Rank S was 21 - 29 and then

Rank Z was 30 and up.

The reason the academy was able to have a room filled with these different masses of energy is that although energy cannot be made or destroyed, it can be moved.

Some psychics could manipulate even energy and move it to different places.

The government had a strict monopoly on psychics of this level though.

Aligning Academy/University that Reno was a student at was an academy located in a rank 1 rift.

The government that managed Reno’s academy was the same one that managed the earth. Yes, the entire earth. Some rifts had different governments, however.

As Reno’s school was essentially overseen by the main figure on earth then of course his school was able to even have a room filled with rifts which was something that could never occur in most academies located in smaller rifts.

In almost no time, teacher Ryan made sure to find a place to set up a table and then handed out the needed necessities to the students.

Everyone got a basic map, some water, some food and a bag to carry the water rose back to the camp with.

It was metallic but didn’t seem to have much weight. From what Reno knew, the bag had the same ability as a freezer, when he put the water rose inside it would freeze and not spoil away too quickly.

“I hope everyone is ready!! I’ll be starting the timer in 3!”

Reno and the rest of the students got ready.

“2! 1! Get going! Make sure to bring back lots of water roses, I might even give the winner a prize”

After saying this, Ryan made sure to add in a wink which made most of the girls swoon and then run off with vigor!

Reno scanned his map for a moment. ‘From what I see, there are four paths I can take from the camp, those being north, west, east, and south.’

‘Most people are going to the north and south as most flowers are there. I’ll use the eastern path. There are some abandoned treehouses with some slight traps left over from what this map is telling me

‘If it’s too dangerous then I’ll just find another way’ After making up his mind, Reno started to head down the eastern path while making sure to stay wary.

Unbeknownst to Reno, however, he didn’t seem to notice that some people from his class had been paying attention to him for a while now.

A group of three figures, 2 men and a girl.

After seeing that Reno had set out, the girl spoke. “ Xander, the boy you’ve been eyeing is going to the east, what should we do “

If Reno saw the boy Xander then he would immediately recognize that he was the one that Trista almost sent to the afterlife during yesterday’s training session.

His face was bruised and he seemed to be fuming with rage. Xander had grey hair with yellow eyes, he also carried a long stick on his back that resembled a wizard’s staff.

“We’re going after that bastard! I can’t believe that muscle-headed gorilla lady had the gall to come up and strike me ruining my face. To make it worse when I told my mom and dad about her, they refused to help me!”

“He was the one that she was training, it’s partially due to him that I was beaten up.”

Hearing Xander’s remarks the other guy’s face turned into a crooked smile. “What are you planning to do to him I wonder? Beat him black and blue until he can’t walk and has to get the teacher to search for him, haha!”

Xander kicked the guy. “Much worse, we’ll just make sure to cripple one of his arms so he can’t train again, let’s make it the same arm that the gorilla punched me with”

Hearing the plan, the guy’s crooked smile just got worse while the woman put on her devilish smile this time.

She then added to the plan, showing that the two people helping Xander out were no doubt good.

“We’ll have to be careful with how we do it however as we don’t want the teacher to think that a student was the one to break it or we might all get in trouble."

Xander just shook his head. “If it’s that gorilla lady then it would be troublesome but a no-name like that guy can be effortlessly dealt with by my parents”

After reassuring the guy and girl a few more times, the trio headed in the same way that Reno and a few others went.

[In a random treehouse in the forest]

Kian Reed was sitting on the ground of the treehouse while some of his muscles randomly spasmed as if they had a mind of their own.

Some minutes then passed and Kian opened his eyes, his originally black eyes had changed to crimson red eyes.

“Haha! Finally! I can stop my fucking good teacher act.”

“With this, I can just register as a genetic enhancer with Egon as my recommendation and gain some prestige as a combatant!”

Kian Reed was originally from an academy in a rank 3 rift. There he had ruled as the king of the jungle in his academy.

All the teachers were impressed with his talent and he was called the star of the school by everyone.

All of that changed, however, when a scout came to his school and helped him transfer to an academy in a higher-ranked rift.

It was truly then that he realized that he was a frog in a well. Almost all the students there passed him out in terms of talent.

Through doing his best he eventually graduated as a D- combatant and then over time rose to even become a C-rank combatant.

Given more time he thought that he would just continue rising but life had other plans for him. No matter what he tried, he just couldn’t escape his rank of C.

He trained tirelessly but it seemed to be a stigma that just wouldn’t leave him. He just chalked it up to talent at the end of the day, there were some heights that he just could not reach.

He knew about options such as genetic enhancement but only a certain few people would be able to become a genetic enhancer, either those who had powerful families or those in the military would have a chance.

Neither of which was a viable option for him. Seeing no way out, he just figured he would act like the nice and friendly teacher that everyone got along with, hoping for a chance to come to him somewhere.

Sadly, years went by with no progress. One average day, however, someone got in contact with him saying that he could get his dream just for him to recommend someone for a teaching position and a student's information.

With a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity dangling in front of him, he made sure to jump at it, no matter if the student was related to a renowned combatant or if his teacher’s job was on the line.

The results of his desperate attempt to get stronger however could be felt by him.

When he clenched his hands, he felt as if he had the power to easily suppress the old him. Feeling the intoxicating power that coursed through his newly turned pseudo-vampire veins, he felt that even if the things he did were scummy, they were worth it.

Surprising Kian however, was that he heard footsteps outside the treehouse he was in.

‘What!? Egon said he would make sure that no one would enter the rift. Why am I hearing footsteps?’

Kian then jumped through the treehouse and started to survey his surroundings.
