Chapter 42: A lizard blizzard

Chapter 42: A lizard blizzard

The white light completely disappeared, the only thing left illuminating the underground space was the angry crackling yellow light coming from the mana creatures and most importantly coming from where the provider of the brilliant white light should have been.

Two metallic hearts floated at the front of the painfully bright yellow mass of solid mana.

It grew quickly, bigger and taller. Until it reached the top of the one kilometre high ceiling.

It slowly began to gain some sort of shape. Unlike the other mana creatures, it didn't form a humanoid shape.

It instead took the shape of something much more reptilian and inhuman.

It stood on four limbs. Each one ending on three pointed sharp ends. It's body formed long and sturdy, yet still looking sleek and aerodynamic. Its head formed a long snout with an elongated mouth filled with jagged golden teeth. A face that looked like a crocodiles.

Above its mouth floated the two hearts, forming the eyes on the creature.

The back of the creature shook and boiled, the bubbles forming two expansive wings that almost covered up the entire ceiling. Behind swooshed a long tail, hitting the few remaining mana creatures behind it.

“No one will say I can't create my inventions any more..I will show you all...you fucking smug bastards..you will finally witness my greatest creation..and you will regret badmouthing me. You will regret your life. I will make you all regret your entire existence.”

Tane walked up to the dragon and patted its massive leg.

“I will make you witness my genius.”

Saying this, his body was grabbed onto by the solid mana that made up the mana dragons body.

When his body was completely inside the massive creature. It began to speak.

“Feel with your skin what I feel with my heart. Foolish idiots.”

The dragon spoke and opened its jaw. A stream of energy burst out of its mouth toward where old man Rendel stood.

“Tane, you idiot, what have you created!”

Were the last words of Rendel before the burst of energy hit. Vaporising both him, his guards, and the mana creatures.

And with them also half of the underground space, making everything collapse from inside out.

The Golden solid-mana dragon flapped its wings and slammed through the hundreds of meters of ground above it.

It emerged through the globed building, shattering it into pieces.

The dragon circled over the city, much to the great panic of the people below.

“This city has overstayed its welcome. All of you who criticised my works. I will obliterate you before I uphold my promise to gather the godly relics. With my genius and this immortal body, I should be able to accomplish it in mere days.”

The mana dragon spoke with a deep tone, before shooting off another burst of golden energy towards the city. Demolishing a random building.

“We can't have you doing that, that would put me out of a job!”

A small voice reached the dragons non existing ears.

“Who is in my presence!?”

One of its metal eyes floated along its surface and to the back of its head. Giving the dragon a vision of its back.

On it stood a young raven haired man, and a petite young girl. They kept themselves on it by stabbing the man's black sword which seemed to be bandaged to his arm into the solid mana the creature was comprised of.

Yuri rushed forward and stabbed the metallic heart that was also the creature's eye with her dagger.

Surprisingly, her dagger that seemed to have no problem stabbing through the smaller mana creatures metal hearts, seemed to just bounce off the surface of the metal without as much as a spark or scratch.

“Fools. I have made sure the hearts are made of Admentatium, my designs are perfect and undefeatable!”

The dragon bragged.

“Lizard. These hearts of yours. Whose sun insignia do they bear?”

Hikaru asked while drawing his sword from the creatures back.

“The sun? It is the insignia of those that understand that there are greater things in life than simply preserving everyone's happiness and ascertaining their safety. They agree with that this world is for the taking of those who dream bigger! It is not for those with concern for anyone but their goals! I will aid them in their goal to gather these relics and they shall aid me in my creations.”

The dragon seemed slightly happy at the opportunity of bragging about its benefactors.

“If you're going after the relics, I guess it can only mean one thing...Sköll..” Hikaru sighed.

“You know, Tane or dragon, or whoever you are right now, I agree with you. It's much more important to strive for your own dreams than worry about the people around you and their safety or thoughts. So..as followers of the same philosophy...no hard feelings, but my goal happens to also be collecting all the relics. So I'm going to have to take yours”

Yuri spoke as if it had already been decided that she will get what she wants.

“Are you trying to make a fool of me!?”

The dragon roared and did a dive in mid air to shake them off.

Hikaru grabbed onto Yuri and jumped off the dragons back.

“I can't cut through the dragons body. The mana its made of is too solid. I can't find a way to remove the relic from inside its body.”

“Yeah..I can't destroy its two hearts either..or are they eyes...whatever they are. But...would you be able to cut through it if you had more force?”

Yuri asked. They were having this conversation while free falling through the sky.

“I could..but the force required to get through something created with the power of a godly relic..”

He seemed doubtful.

“Hey. We have our own godly relic right here don't we?”

She twirled her dagger, almost dropping it, before quickly recovering from mid air while fumbling with it. “Phew...”

“Anyway! I have a plan. But it only works if you can pinpoint the exact location of the relic in the dragons body.”

“Done. It's where the crackling of lightning on its body is the strongest.”

“Eh..you can tell that easily..?”

To her all the crackling on the dragons body looked identical and equally as barely noticeable.

“Good job, as expected of my partner. Now all you have to do now...is strike it in the right spot..”

She said this while drawing runes on the back of his shoes.

She swiped the runes on his body and pushed herself off of him so she flew further away.

“Good luck, you have five seconds to get your aim right, and I increased the power on the runes by like...a lot! So make sure your legs don't break!”

“What...what?!”

Hikaru looked at the bottom of his shoes and found them to be filled with some sort of wind spell.

Panicking slightly for one of the few times in his life. The ribbon around his arm and sword sensed his worry and wriggled slightly.

“That's right..ribbon. Do the same thing you did on my arm to my whole body.”

The ribbon wriggled uncomfortably.

“It only needs to be for a few seconds.”

The ribbon wriggled submissively and his whole body except for his eyes and above was covered in black bandages.

He felt like he could suffocate at any moment.

Before even managing to sigh at Yuri's carelessness (Not that he could with the bandages around his mouth). The runes activated and sent him flying up into the air towards the dragon so fast that it broke the sound barrier.

He held his sword in front of himself, so the point of his sword would be the first thing to make contact with the dragon.

The dragon looked down and prepared to fire off another burst of energy when it suddenly convulsed.

It spewed out golden liquid from two holes in its body. As if it had been shot with a giant bullet, it suddenly had a hole penetrating through its entire body.

“What—is this!?”

Looking up, it found a figure still flying further and further up.

The figure was completely black except for a small white object, which the dragon could make out to be a small horn.

“No..!? How the-!? Without it I can't sustain this body!”

What Tane had done in order to make this giant body of mana a reality was the use of the mana in the air around him, which was nearly limitless. Of course it needed extensive manipulation before being made possible to use. Which was why he needed the Horn relic of Heimdallr. Which the city had kept a carefully hidden secret as it was the thing which made it possible to convert all of the city's nature mana into usable energy.

They had long since abandoned their god, but refused to give up the bonuses that came with having a god. Thus they were always doomed to fail, or so thought the woman who had come to him with the necessary designs in order to complete his biggest creations, asking only for that he retrieves the relics which he believed to be an outdated technology. He had no qualms in accepting those terms.

Unfortunately, he too was forced to rely on such outdated technology, and that ended up being his end.

The golden dragon, now not being able to contain all of the mana its body was made up of. Exploded into a million pieces of golden energy.

That day the city truly became the city covered in gold. It would have been a day the city would remember fondly for ages, the day when it rained gold.

Had it of course not been made impossible by the fact that the golden shower or rain, was actually chunks of solid mana which exploded upon contact with the ground. Destroying most of the city and dooming it to a hundred years of economic failure due to the rebuilding costs.

Thus it was a day that was not remembered fondly at all. But with curses at the two people who detonated this giant flying bomb above their heads.

The evil thief girl and her dark knight partner.
