Chapter 34: Memories in a Present

Yuri was led out of the room by Hikaru. The previous events were fairly noisy, most of the students were already starting to gather around the entrance to the room they were in.

Upon seeing Yuri being led out by Hikaru with her her skirt slightly torn, the whispers among the students grew out of control.

Hikaru paid them no heed and kept dragging Yuri until they were out of sight.

“Hey, I’m still waiting for that explanation!”

“I will soon, is there any place we can talk, undisturbed?”

A glance was cast towards the curious students all around them.

“Then my room should be fine”

Yuri said while leading him to her dorm room.

Once inside, Yuri sat onto the bed and crossed her arms.

“Sit down and start talking..”

Hikaru sat down on the floor and leaned against the wall. He gave out a very tired sigh and slowly unsheathed his shattered sword and gazed at it.

“Well, who was that?”

That..was my sister..”

He began polishing the broken sword, mostly out of habit, as it couldn’t be used any more.

“Right, well I had kind of guessed that from her calling you brother and all..”

Yuri groaned at his unresponsiveness.

“Fine, how about her being so strong, or the wolf thing, and the whole not being human thing.”

Yuri put one leg over the other.

“Well…like she said..she is not human…and neither am I..”

He spoke with a pained expression.

“You look human enough to me..? at least more than your so called sister..”

She thought back to the wolf transformation of his sister.

“She may have the appearance of a human at first glance, but her true form is that of the beast you saw..even her human shape has some distinct inhuman features, which is why she always wears that white mantle.”

“So..can you also turn into a wolf..?”

Yuri raised an eyebrow.

“No, not any more. I have abandoned that for long ago..a long time ago..”

Hikaru muttered, his eyes looked at a scene that took place back when the moon and the sun still needed guidance to get across the sky, a scene that had both the moon and the sun lighting the sky, together.

“Why do you refuse!”

The voice of a young woman rang out while being carried across the tops of a forest of red and yellow, which seemed to shine in the combined light of both moon and sun.

“I refuse because I must and because I can..”

A familiar male voice was heard through the trees.

“What does that even mean!”

The woman’s voice rang out again, and a figure of a pale young woman could be seen through the leaves.

“It means that I refuse to help. Nothing you say will change that.”

The figure of the man standing next to her was of a familiar raven haired man, although the hair was much longer, so long that it almost reached his waist.

“Why. And why do you always insist on taking these pathetic forms?”

She snapped at him.

“This is the form I have decided to be my own. They are also far from pathetic, the things these creatures can create is amazing. They are born with no fangs or claws, so they forge them of fire and steel. They have no fur so they cover themselves in the furs of their slain prey. They are far from pathetic.”

He replied with a fascinated expression.

“Fine, I see that curiosity has dulled your mind. So be it. But remember this, when I free our father, I will get your share. I will finally catch the sun and I will take the moon as well!”

She cried out while pointing to the sky and disappearing into a whirlwind of leaves.

“You won’t survive like this..Hati..”

The woman’s voice faded, as if she was already far away.

The man sighed and muttered while making his way out of the forest.

“That’s not the kind of moon I’m chasing though..”

“-ikaru, Hikaru!”

Yuri screamed at Hikaru to wake up from his daze.

“Ah yes..what is it?” He quickly replied.

“So if you’re not human..what are you..?” She asked cautiously.

“I..i consider myself to be more human than anything else..”

He didn’t meet her gaze.

“Haaa..”

Yuri sighed while leaning back on the bed.

“If you don’t want to tell me, then that’s fine..but how the hell did your supposed sister get hold of my dagger?”

Holding out the dagger towards the light, Yuri admired its brilliant sparkle.

“Oh..of course.!”

He stood up.

“Of course. The dagger would make it a lot easier for her..I don’t know how she got it, but the fact that she came all the way here to get it..would mean..that once she finds out it’s gone..”

“She will come back for it..”

Yuri finished his sentence for him, quickly getting up and packing her meagre belongings.

“We should probably flee. Even if I had the capability to defend us, I don’t anymore.”

He gave his sword a quick glance before throwing it on the floor.

“We should hurry.”

“In a second. I’m just leaving a little present…Okay all done.”

Yuri exited the room while twirling her newly found dagger.

A gust of wind blew the window in Yuri’s room open. A feminine figure wearing a white mantle appeared.

“Hm..to think I would be so reckless..No matter I might as well finish her off this time..”

Walking to the edge of the bed, she looked at the figure of Yuri sleeping soundly.

“…”

The woman loomed over Yuri while casting a shadow. She raised her fist and gave Yuri a quick jab with her fingers.

It went through the figure of Yuri and penetrated the bed.

“Huh..?”

She frowned, confused at the lack of resistance and blood.

Closely examining the figure of Yuri, she found it flickering slightly before it disappeared, the beds wooden parts lit up in a red light.

Upon closer inspection she found the source of the peculiar light to be a massive selection of runes.

“A tra-”

Before she could finish her words, the beds glow intensified and a loud explosion was heard somewhere in the castle.

A while later the students had began to gather around the site of the explosion, one of them was Alice.

“What kind of goodbye present is this..What a peculiar girl..”

She sighed.

No reports could determine the source of the explosion, but many students claimed to have witnessed an angry lady wearing a torn mantle, cursing to herself while flying away.
